If I were a British subject I would undoubtedly be a Royalist.....The Royal Family is what defines England and what England was founded on centuries ago....What country doesn't wish they had a monarchy??

Every person from the US that thinks we don't have to pay for our president is crazy. How do you think he gets paid?! Duh. He gets paid a lot year he is in office. The president pays for nothing it all goes on an expense account and the taxpayers pay for that. The money he gets paid he doesn't use. And he actually costs a lot and we have higher taxes than in the UK. The monarchy is okay they create a great history for countries and royals don't get assassinated as much as US Presidents.

Anyway, yes, you're completely right about US taxpayers having to fund the president. That's why I don't understand how Republican Brits think abolishing the monarchy saves them money? Do they think the President would pay out of his own pocket?

Throughout my life, every few years the BBC puts out another one of these programs to convince me how "normal" the royal family are, each one more self-consciously "candid" than the last. It seems that far too much light has been let in upon the magic--if, indeed, there ever truly was any. It's a clever act, making staggering wealth look like a such a chore. If it's all such drudgery, why don't they just call it a day? The world can live without them.

The monarchy may cost the tax payers a pittance, but they bring millions into the country in tourism. Also, half of British charities would be nothing without the backing of the monarchy. I am not particularly for them, or against them, but if you're going to argue points, they should at least be argued through education, not ignorance.

@jaimelbourne For that reason alone I agree with you. All those who want to rid the crown, in the UK and elsewhere, don't even understand how it functions and its purpose. This is the reason why even here in the States, the Founding Fathers made sure to exclude the masses, a tradition that continues to this days, when it came to crafting institutions and drafting and amending a constitution.

actually there are good and well bad sides of having a royal family in a country....well its an honor to have a royal family but thinking that the people has the responsibility to finance the royal family well forget it..im not paying for their luxurious lifestyle and just to spearhead some charity events...it's better to have president you treat them like a king or queen but with a half a price.....coz we don't have to pay extra
