  • Just tried the magic erasers after coming across this vid. Had some pros & cons with them:

Pros: they prep waaaay better & faster than cotton balls

Cons: They shed heavily..had to put an old blanket under the shoes to catch everything. I did tend to rub hard with them though so maybe that's why.

Been using cotton balls & scrubbers for years (will still use them) but the erasers are great (except for the shedding part)

  • @fr3shs0le09 yes in order for the paint to adhere to the leather

  • do i have to prep my shoes if im using acrylic paint?

  • @19mcafro93 yes because the prepping takes away the waxy final layer that factories put on. after that you can paint. but if it is with acrylic i would suggest a good quality sealer for afterwards

  • im paintin my shoes white n d gray part isnt stayin white, did i over prep or sumthn?!

  • @blahblah5426 what kind of paint are you using

  • @gatorade9rm i am using angelus leather paint

  • @blahblah5426 ok. message me and i'll help you out.

  • lol the cat

  • i used nail polish remover and cotton balls and it takes me forrrrrever to get them grey... its insane

  • yeah I've heard you can use a toothbrush to speed up the process. just make sure you don't over prep

  • so you use the toothbrush with acetone? alright ill give that a try thanks a lot!

  • is always a good idea to prep, if you don't want your paint to crack and fall off. prepping makes the paint stay there is more flexible.

  • why do u need 2 prep them if they white?

  • nike puts a factory finish on their shoes that needs to be removed in order to paint

  • oh ok so does that mean i dont hav 2 prep other shoes than nikes?

  • no most shoe companies do this so it is safer to do it than not to. But you can always paint on canvas if you just feel like painting and not prepping

  • oh oright i thoght it would be that XD i jus wanted 2 make sure, n if i spray paint on plimpsols/canvas would the paint crak?

  • i have honestly never spray painted any shoes so i couldn't tell you either way

  • oh oright i herd it does on canvas

  • use acrylics and ul be fine...they basically turn to plastic that can flex

  • yeh i know, im looking for some now because im gona custom these nike dunks n i need 2 find wer 2 buy the acrilic paint from, im gona ask my art teacher if she can sel me some, thanks for help aniwey

  • dont use acryllic paint use angelus leather paint

  • wts da name of da songs?

  • this is the way I live and cyclone

  • cant you use nail polish remover instead of acetone. and isnt acryllic the same thing as the angelus shit

  • the main component in nail polish remover is acetone, so yes you can

  • thanx man i been waitin for an answer for like ever

  • Bah why did you put tape on the plastic. Acetone wont do anything to it

  • so you know if their is a stencil kit of some kind i can buy to put on the shoe and pull off for a perfect design kinda like a tattoo and what is the best pencils to use when drawing on the sneaker

  • i'm not sure about a stencil kit. i pretty much freehand everything but I use graphite pencils to draw on the shoes before i paint them

  • whats the song at the end

  • Cyclone - baby bash

  • what is the song playing at the end ?

  • You really should be using gloves little man. Thats ACETONE you are using, it eats through skin.

  • LOL, no gloves for the acetone.. No wonder the video ends right after that. LOL....

  • i painted my white air forces with this acrylic paint and it look shitty what can i do?

  • don't use acrylic paints, use Angelus Leather paint, that way it wont crack and it'll last a long time, i'm using them right now.

  • should I prep a nike 6.0, or do you only prep SBs?

  • you can prep any leather

  • How many magic erasers do you use?

  • yes in response to your other comment it was faster but the eraser tends to break apart, this pair of shoes took two boxes of magic eraser. Send me a message if you have any more questions best of luck

  • Will using the magic eraser be faster (as in get more finish off quicker) than cotton balls?

  • After you prep do you coat the area with white paint before painting the design? Some say to dot the white paint instead of a normal coat, to prevent cracking. What would you recommend?

Also, if you have tried both, is airbrush or acrylic better for lasting power? Should I spray with a clear paint after?

  • yes sometimes I paint a white coat after prepping depending on the color that the shoe is going to be. I haven't heard anything about dotting but painting has worked just fine for me. I put just a regular finish on my shoes.

  • GET RID OF UR UGLy FEEt LOL

  • what kind of paint u use

  • angelus leather paint

  • I know where to find Angelus paint online but what regular stores can you find em at?

  • I haven't heard of any stores that carry it.

  • Yeh, I went to Michaels today and the lady was like "Angelus, huh!?"

But I found a paint they had there that says its for letter so imma give it a try. It was only $0.99 so if it dont work then its aight, ill just order Angelus some other time.

And for all you pp asking bout Acetone and shit, go to Walmart to get it, they also got a package of 100 cotton balls for $1, the acetone is about $3 for a small, and $6 for medium and $15 for a huge one.

  • wat happens when you get acetone on the rubber should i tape the rubber when putting the acetone on?

  • nothing will happen if you get acetone on the rubber disreguard my comment in the video

  • good vid

  • what paint can u use for the midsole

  • umm.. my shoes didnt rly feel like suede after i tried to prep it..

i scrubbed rly hard on it too..

the shoes werent as white as before but there were little bits on the material which sorta look like cracked skin as if the were scratched of but stil sticking to the leather.. am i doing this right? im practising it on Airwalk shoes.. would it be the same for nike airforces??

  • Thanks for sharing..... Very help-full

  • when i painted my first shoe it left small spots so i cover them but the pait looked to thick was up with it also when you paint af1 can u just paint over the nike air logo on the back

  • you need to do many small coats and yes i have painted the back logo before

  • wat the use of the eraser?? because ive seen another vdeo he just uses cotton ball.. does it work?

  • its the same thing as a cotton ball it is just what i use

  • what paints do u use to make the customizeed fineshed product. I see lots of ppl using acetone, shoe polish on it then they use paint and it looks shit.

  • angelus leather paint

  • ok you said asetone right

    but you have polish remover

and i checked my polish remover and

    it has only like 40%

    acetone

does it still work or does it have to be pure?

    PLEASE HELP

  • it might still work but 100% is best and will give quicker results

  • Thank you.

    This helped a lot.

  • Why cant u put acentone on the rubber, it might boil through maybe a millicentimeter but itll look normal

  • you can put acetone on rubber you just don't need to unless you get paint on it

  • watch his/her toesXD

  • llloooolllll its true dats hella funny

  • i know it was cold and my feet were falling asleep

  • Oh yeah and I use acrylics too...are they good enough to stand water after I used the "finisher"?

  • Hi!I have a question to u.I know that this might be a stupid question but what is the finisher? What should Ii use as a finisher????Please answer this!!!Thank u!

  • i use the angelus finisher but you can use a krylon finisher as well

  • Thanks for ur answer....

  • Nice tutorial. Very helpful.

  • what would happen if you got acetone on the rubber?

  • nothing really happens if you acetone the rubber if its white. but if you acetone a colored shoe the paint could drip down onto the rubber and color it.

  • oh okay

  • good toturial man even tho short went straight to the point and it seemed as if u knew what u were talking bout

  • beautiful cat, ahha

  • I have a question.

    I'm new to customizing shoes.

So after you remove the factory finish you start painting with acrylics right? I have a question about the finishing spray, what kind do I use? whats it called??

And does the finishing spray work the same for non-leather shoes? like all star chucks?

    Please message me back ^___^

    thankss! your vid was helpful

  • wholesale af1's $40 paypal..

  • u got forces $40

  • after you remove the finish you apply your paints. I use angelus leather paints which can be found online so i also use their angelus finisher. although i know that krylon matte finish spray can be used, this can be found at any paint store or hardware store. i have yet to customize a non leather pair of shoes but i'm guessing you might be able to use the same spray i would read the bottle first.

  • yes it is just nail polish remover

  • acetone..its basically nail polish remover

  • hmm where do u buy the assits?

  • thats super hardcore you live in chucktown
