  • was this filmed with the Atlas machine? Thats not what its for.

  • You know you'd get more money if you use it to supple electricity to homes and businesses. I armchair imagine the World would only need 16 plants.

  • Damn, was this recorded with a calculator?

  • Ah, the sensationalism.

The intro to the video says a weapon the size of a paperclip could destroy NY, even though you'd need a massive apparatus to contain the antimatter until time to go boom.

Then, after the scientist says it'd take billions of years to accumulate a usable amount of antimatter, the outro ominously intones that "we stand on the threshold of a new explosive age"!

  • shitty quality but cant complain about a bootleg i didnt pay for lol

  • shity video

  • The human mind apparently understands a new technology first as a weapon and then as something useful.

  • @Jimlead

Actually, when first heard about the amount of energy that antimatter-matter fusion can produce,

first thought i had : interstellar travel will be possible in 10 years MAX for everyone

and the era of colonization is about to begin!

  • @PhobosXL Antimatter is not just a travel but the father or mother of something new. To make a baby both parents are needed. Imagine what if matter and anti-matter combines...

  • @Jimlead

You don't get me... I'm saying that, i didn't thought of using this energy as a weapon

but as a mean of fueling our exploration into the vast universe!

just think of the possibilities available to us with the use of this technology.

Don't think about war or destruction. Think about creation and exploration...

  • @PhobosXL I got the point of space exploration and science. But what I meant was that such a power could do much more (miracles) for humans than just a space travel. I tell you that if we possess this power, the beginning of a new Aeon will proveil.

  • @Jimlead

That's what i mean. the space travel was just an example...

I just hate the people who first thought it as a weapon and then as a "tool"

    for greatness!!!

  • @PhobosXL There will always be such people...

  • Protonium, ftw.

  • Wouldnt the air around the antimatter cause it to destruction then? Because of the elements present in our atmosphere. Or r they using a vaccumed space? This is kinda confusing but not.....

  • @cococup9607 The anti matter only explodes when it comes in contact with 1 of the two particles it was created from, nothing else. So if you keep the anti matter away from the other 2 particles, it won't explode.

  • @dirtbikeryzz I think you're misinformed. An antiproton, for instance, will annihilate with any proton it happens to come in contact with. It doesn't have to be any particular proton.

  • this is old isn't it

  • I'm trying to make an anti matter sword, however I need a particle accelerator. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a particle accelerator?

  • this video gives me a boner...

  • You guys need to read up on your facts. When Antimatter tocuhes matter, they annihilate eachother...100x the energy is produced, but no explosion of what you may think in size or caliber. It IMPLODES not explodes.

  • @TheLebellion no it explodes.

  • @paul556 antimatter exists but it isn't what you think. its normal matter that has an opposite charge and a different "spin". it's very much a normal part of our universe, but there is a lot more matter than antimatter. its true they come and annihilate in pairs, but the weak force has turned most antimatter into normal matter so those explosions "really" don't happen anymore. earth is made of matter but theres trace amounts of antimatter everywhere, even here.

  • @ancient561 good point but why does matter not annihilate all antimatter why is there some left

  • antimatter so maybe heaven is maid of antimatter and earth is made of matter

it just cross my mind im not saying its true

if there is any sciencetist out there tell me what you think about it is it possible

  • @paul556 I think personally you should steer clear of "heaven" or any other manmade falacy fullstop.

  • @Baldwynmayhem call it what you want but this is not the end there is more to come you will see yourself one day when you die and wake up then the penny will drop, i guess were man made to then yes or no

  • When mixed with macaroni and cheese and smoked sausage, anti matter is quite nutritious.

  • well, by logic a miligram of anti matter shouldn't only nulfill one miligram of matter?

  • haha they'er not going to destory the world...the amount it would take to even cause a small explosion, no larger then a meter in diamiter is massive, practicly inconcivable, far from the destructive power of the antimatter that mixed with matter during the big bang. And even if we did want to make an actual weapon out of it, the cost would be impossibly high, about 100 quadrillion US dollars over a period of 100 billion years of running of an antimatter creation device to produce 1gram.

  • immagine if it would actually be used for good purposes, lets say for annihilating trash! there would be no more sign of trash and it would release energy!

  • @RISINGTENSION You do realize that no such thing is possible right? A single collision of anti-matter and matter would probably be enough to destroy the entire planet

  • @k28xl considering collisions of anti-matter and matter happen all the time on Earth no it wouldn't be.

  • @RISINGTENSION it is used for good purposes, it's used in hospital scanners to save lives.

  • @9hello123 yup, i know

  • @RISINGTENSION Then why are you saying it isn't actually used for good purposes?

  • @9hello123 when did i say that? i said it could be used for good purposes.

  • @RISINGTENSION you said if it was actually used for good purposes

  • @9hello123 did i say it was used for bad purposes?

  • @RISINGTENSION did I say you did?

  • mankind , for the sake of proving they can, will destroy the world

    interesting

  • hey, this video is very informative but it's sound & video quality is very poor (suitable for 3gp).

    upload it's hd version

  • NO - "pure energy" = mass!!! Mass = 100. 000. 000 C in HOT !! - This is energy(mass).

  • W T F BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

  • which countries have this technology ?

  • Continued further:

If you plebeians think the LHC is going to end the world, it's a mere matchstick when compared to the collisions that occur naturally with our atmosphere thanks to the might of the Sun (Aurora Borealis ring a bell?)

However, in the not so distant future (a few generations at most) it might just be possibly to collect naturally occurring using spacecraft with magnetic fields to scoop a few atoms up from the van-allen belts.....

  • Look here retards,

Firstly, the amount of anti-matter we have ever created on earth number in less than a couple hundred atoms. Just enough to power a light bulb for a couple minutes. The price of creating anti-hydrogen is $63,000,000,000,000 PER GRAM. There isn't even that much money around to begin with, so production of a useful quantity is pretty much ruled out for now.

  • The reaction of 1 kg of antimatter with 1 kg of matter would produce 1.8×1017 J (180 petajoules) of energy (by the mass-energy equivalence formula E = mc²), or the rough equivalent of 43 megatons of TNT. Bla, bla bla... Wow, I am so smart, hu? It is all just National Geographics metal mastubation... it is all theory. Show us how it could be used for something constructive or just shut the FUCK UP!

  • @TheAddoboy it already is used for something constructive and has been for years, hospital scanners.

  • National Geographic are a bunch of wanabes. Fucking monkeys they are!

  • DAM....SPOOKY.....

  • and this is why i love the human race......

  • no longer mutually assured destruction

now we face mutually guaranteed destruction

  • a discovery that could provide us with all the energy we could ever need... and the first thing we think of is how to make a weapon out of it

  • i would have absolute power, i could have anything i wanted too, all the gold in fort knox, the crown jewels, all the most sexy women , my own private army, anything,

  • You'd be a racist, fascist, thief.

In Soviet Russia, anti matter explodes you.

  • @beswick1111 Not if everything ended up radioactive?

  • an amount of anti matter that weighs as much as a paper clip could destroy new york city?

that is very very very impressive.

imagine what 1kg of anti matter could do?

imagine what i could do with that much power, i could hold all the world to randsome.

  • i wanna build an anti matter bomb, can someone smart here help me, i wanna hold the world to randsome for all the gold in fort knox, if u help me ill split it with u me70- you 30% ok?

  • Antimatter? How would you make that?

  • @Michel0555, you make it in the Large Hadron Collider in europe...

  • @Darusdei

Really? How? As far as I know they only make particles collide.

  • @Michel0555, they collide protons to create antiprotons...

but the estimated cost of $25 billion per gram for positrons[17], and $62.5 trillion per gram for antihydrogen...

  • man, when the universe was created

10to the power of -49 seconds the universe was a liqued and if that happens again due to the large exploision if they screw up we are soooo FUCKED

  • u realise how unstable it is to actually be created into a bomb, antihydrogen can oinly be sustained for30 seconds....

  • @skormz10 eum i think it is normally stable but it reacts so fast whit normal mater so it doesn't exist long

  • mmmmm... imagine antimatter cheese yum yum

  • Those goddamned fuckers are gonna get us all killed and blow up the entire planet. They should rot in hell for it.

  • Being educated on the subject matter is fine...but I agree every advancement always encourages the assumption of How much destruction can this weapon cause... and that really concerns me,If antimatter can help us then fine..but stop encouraging the use of this stuff for destructive applications....

  • @platano214, yeah but then again every new technologys first adaptations are in warfare

  • Why every technological advancement needs to include destruction...stupid fucks...use this power for the betterment of All life on earth... this reminds me of that military nut who is always obsessed with military advancements in weapons technology on the Military channel...I sure hope this power doesn't go into the wrong hands...

  • I think the scientists that are qualified and intelligent enough to run the machines, and the people that are at the spearhead of this operation can figure out less mentally overwhelming and more practical ways to blow shit up.

  • They are qualified But surely they too will mostly likely but highly unlikely be Unanticipated to screw on such use of antimatter...when it is used on a grander scale...

  • weapon wtf no one would do that were not crazy

  • uhm, to my knowledge antimatter DOES exist.

It has been around for quite a while actually, without us even knowing.. It's a naturally occuring phenomenon.

NASA is even thinking of getting some (it's floating around the earth), because going into space to get it would be cheaper than making it ourselves.

  • antimatter is moust powerfull think in whole nature!

  • Oh and DONT watch Angels and demons too much...

It can give you a wrong impression, and let u think antimatter exists.

    IT DOESNT!

  • Uh of course antimatter exists.

Its used in MEDICINE on a very regular basis.

PET scanners (POSITRON Emission Tomography) image a part of your body by the emission of positrons (the antimatter particle to the electron) once you have been injected with a substance (18-Fluorodeoxyglucose) which emits antimatter (positrons) ...

Yes thats right, they INJECT you with a substance that emits antimatter, that is how safe, and trivial antimatter is.

  • The problem is to produce ENOUGH antimatter (1 gram even) would take an incredible amount of time and energy, it is produced on a particle by particle basis

  • If i am not wrong in LHC and other coliders they colide protons (proton (+) and proton (+) aint anti particles!)

There aint any MATTER ANTIMATER in coliders.

When space was born a symetry between MATTER and ANTIMATTER went in favor of MATTER (scientists dont know how).

Sooo ALL antimater was used to destroy MOST of matter... but some matter could not be destroyed as there was not enough antimatter.

This is reason space is mostly an empty space with only a fractions of matter.

  • Most colliders don't collide hadrons, the LHC is one of the few.

They ALL produce antiparticles, as their function is to convert ENERGY into MASS (the kinetic energy of the two protons hitting each other generates a vast sea of particles ... baryons (3 quark hadrons), mesons (2 quark hadrons), gluons, photons, W+/-, Z, electrons, protons, neutrons, muons, taus (and their respective elecon/muon/tau neutrinos) ... as well as all the ANTIPARTICLES to each of the fundamental particles

  • The list goes ON AND ON, there are so many composite particles its impossible to list them all.

But as an example, a MESON, is a 2 quark hadron consisting of a quark and an antiquark, a composite particle made of matter and antimatter (eg. an up and antidown quark) ... note of course an up and anti up quark would annihilate, mesons are a quark and a DIFFERENT antiquark.

Either way antimatter is produced in great diversity in all high energy particle accelerators

  • Its just that it is produced on a particle by particle basis, to produce enough to use in regular life would take ... incredible time and energy.

Also, we don't know that space is 'empty', in fact we can only account for a small fraction of its mass, the rest is some unknown form of matter or energy we have yet to observe or characterize, which we call 'dark matter/energy'

  • @mdma4life wasn't it something like 80% that was "missing" of the energy

  • Mankind will never produce antimatter. God knows that we are too stubborn to harness such amount of energy.

  • wtf shut up

  • ooo maybe the amount say of a house could the destroy a chunk in the earth amazing.

  • Why the hell would we even talk about the idea of using anti matter as a weapon

  • indeed

  • ... hang on ... is this saying that antimatter in theory could be produced or they have for fact produced it (in ridiculously small amounts)

  • @superjackhamm3

Yes, anti matter has been produced, but there is no realistic way to contain it, and it's only produced protons at a time.

  • i Hope an earthquake doesnt hit this lab, Big bada BOOM!

  • 5th element :) BIIIIG BADA BOOM!

  • use Einstiens equasion E=MC2 by my own calculation ERX2=M=AM to get

    E=mc2/ERX2=m=AM=PURE ENERGY

  • What's the name of that song?

  • granted there isn't much produced, but a PET scan is an everyday use for anti-matter. the beta decay of radioactive iodine produces an electron and a positron and where the brain is metabolizing this iodine the energy released from the collision is recorded.

  • I saw this documental on theTV yestarday...

  • it would be nice to figure out a way to use this matter/anti matter for energy purposes..

  • I agree. Too bad it's too expensive.

  • it is being developed... Mainly for propuslion in spaceships etc. So pretty much all the big energy items

  • Yes, imagine an antimatter power station. The magnetic force would be used to control how much that touches/would tough matter.

  • ANITMATTER MUST BE MADE IN SPACE 2 dangerous to be made on earth..... also it will be easy to make it in space ....

  • good thinking bro

  • Continued:

In response to broeskoenen: We can't make antimatter in space, the technology required is far beyond feasible for the foreseeable future. Anti-matter does however exist in only trace amounts naturally around the Earth's ionosphere, and in the extremely radioactive region around the Earth known as the Van-Allen belt.

Those examples were formed when highly charged particles fired from the sun collided with particles in our ionosphere, with thousands of times more energy than the LHC

  • @broeskoenen Are you TOTALLY STUPID??? Space is not an EMPTY space! It`s - charged electrons witch have (mostly) nothing "in matter"!!! EVERYTHING is gonna die in space of ANTIMATTER there!!!

  • @broeskoenen Nonsense. Anti matter particles hit the Earth all the time. There are billions of them hitting the atmophere every second. The best a modern particle accellerator can do is make a few anti-protons or anti-neutrons at a time. A anti-proton releases about 3x10^-8 joules when it colides with a proton. About 10,000 times less energy than a cricket chirping. I think we'll survive.

  • @BW022 What you wrote is Nonsense! Not a single anti matter has hit the earth.

If you knew a little about space you'd see how ridiculous your comment is.

A nuclear bomb is nothing in comparison to a Antimatter bomb.

But we do not have to fear antimatter because it takes an enormous amount of energy to produce it using the hydron collider.

Read on how antimatter was destroyed in the time of the big bang.

  • @Trinitrotoluo Anti-electrons were confirmed when discovered by Carl Anderson in 1932 - Nobel prize 1936. He used a cloud chamber on the ground. Anti-electrons are produced by high energy collisions in the upper atmosphere and rain down on virtually every part of the Earth. Put a cloud chamber any place on the planet and you'll detect them. That anti-matter exists on Earth has been known for over 75 years.

  • @broeskoenen ur ryt... here on earth has many matter here.... one touch and kaboom!

  • @broeskoenen Why is this wrong scare mongering comment got 9 thumbs up?

  • @broeskoenen we already make it on earth, so no, it doesn't have to be made in space

  • @broeskoenen The antimatter made in the latest LHC experiment made enough antimatter to heat a cup of coffee

  • so why they don't use it for free energy instead of weapons? who is forcing them to use it for bad purposes??

  • The military is not here to defend but to fuck with our world.lol.

  • i hate it when militarists use science in ways of weaponry nuclear physics was intended as a source of energy and it was then saught after by politicians to destroy anti matter can be used to research and prove the theories of creation and be a more reliable source of energy than anything modern science has discovered

  • being everything is looked at as (Fact or Fiction) nobody is willing to push the envelope (think out side the box) is exactly whats keeping humans from advancing even further in technology and if they do in fact (Think outside the Box) they don't think of the consequences that may follow Through on the conclusive point they were trying to make, Thus the black hole Theory

  • it should stay in fiction anti matter might cause a black hole especially in a partical accelerator

  • yes, oddly being Scientists they haven't thought of that

  • I can see it now!!!!

That doesn't matter now Mr. Bond. Or should I say anti-matter! HAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • A single gram of antimatter, if handled properly, can produce enough energy that would power our planet for thousands of years. Yet, is it possible to acquire such amount? Highly unlikely. Once antimatter comes in contact with matter, its energy is exposed. How can you contain it then? Well... magnetic field of course. However, if it the particle looses control inside this magnetic field. Our planet will be destroyed. The best way to capture antimatter is to capture it in an antimatter world.

  • NERD!

  • LOL... just a college physics student. I actually just learned about it not too long ago. Kind of interesting and how it related to the "Red Matter" from the Star Trek 2009 film.

  • I make "antimatter" every weekend when I pick up skanks from Irish bars and pelvic thrust my shlong into their box's, hit with enough speed this causes a chain reaction that releases a massive black hole into the bedroom, this is about the time i bail.

  • even if we even Acquire im afraid we wont be able to handle it...?

  • Yes.... many physicist claim that you can handle antimatter by having it suspended in a magnetic field. However, when you have antimatter suspended around matter, the antimatter just releases all its energy. So antimatter has to be suspended in a vacuum or in space where matter are very far apart from each other. And having something suspended between two magnetic fields does not stay suspended forever. Even diamagnetic objects fail to suspend in air for very long periods of time.

  • I have yet to learn how you gather energy from anti-matter ...

The moment anything touches it, it explodes, so how would you gain energy from it?

  • same way an engine works right? since the fuel explodes in a compustion engine

  • i have always wanted to go out with a bang.

  • Someones a fan of angels and demons :)

  • When man eat of the tree of the KNOWLEDGE of good and evil,DEATH will follows. God is calling YOU ,go and take the little book and eat it (the tree of LIFE)up,revelation ten verse eight to eleven.

  • crappy quality..

  • i think they said to create just enough antimatter to run a lightbulb for a few seconds costs about $10 million

  • and probably blow everything up =P

  • well, good to know the tax payers money is going to something useful :-) but it's all good, cuz they will just tax cows for each fart, and get their money back that way.

  • your mom's mouth is the best

  • HAHAHAHA nice one.

  • the antimatter is visible?

  • the amounts we could create by now were merely a few atoms, you could not see that if it were normal matter

in theory, if you could create a large enough amount of it, i think you could be able to see it

  • lol the picture on ur tv isn't all that good but the audio was perfect lol and they finally made a show about anti-matter for weapons

  • Anti Matter bombs will be a reality in the near future... if it isn't already.

The scary thing is we as a species have never made a weapon we did not use.

  • you mean we have never created anything that couldnt be used as or on a weapon :p yeah its sad to see how our inteligence dooms us

  • What is wrong with military forces weaponizing ANYTHING dangerous? These empty brained people created atomic bomb, virus bomb, and now they are trying to make anti-matter bomb. And guess what, they are ALL mass destructive weapons. So if used, WHERE do you think they will be used? Cities, people, cities. Their purpose is not enemy's military, but killing as many people as they can. Not much different than terrorists' idea.

  • Our idea is kill people trying to kill us or our friends. Their idea is kill everyone different than them.

  • you're right, fuck USA, I always said they're the real terrorists. peace!

  • are hose explosions showed made by anti matter?

  • Brilliant! At least now the modern world will have a weapon to use against the terrorists!

  • Until, of course, terrorists get their hands on it. They don't need a particle accelerator, all they need is some means to get their hands on the anti-matter produced. =/

  • Not unless you bomb them first and make security there virtually inpenetrable.

Even if they do get their hands on it, simply threaten to barrage their countries and/or hideouts if they don't return it.

I'm certain that they wouldn't want all of their countrymen'sblood on their hands.

CERN could give anti-matter to Sri Lanka against the Tamil Tigers, Israel to ward off threats, Georgia to push back Russia, Tibet and Taiwan to free themselves from China and Pakistan to get rid of Taliban.

  • "Even if they do get their hands on it, simply threaten to barrage their countries and/or hideouts if they don't return it." THAT is an act of war. Such a threat would turn the entire world against the threatening country, and even so much as the threat could almost certainly start a full-scale war between those countries. If such a threat was actually carried out, the MILLIONS of innocent lives would constitute crimes against humanity (Genocide!) and result in World War III.

  • What do you recommend people do against the terrorists or against the oppresors? Hand them flowers? Remember, all's fair in love and war

Besides, it will simply be a threat. If the terrorists or oppressive countries really cared about their people, they wouldn't dare make such a move. Just think, Israel will be at peace,Georgia will have all its territory back, Tibet and Taiwan will be free and Sri Lanka will be rid of the Tigers.

  • No, but dealing with terrorists is NEVER as simple as 'blow them to hell'. And that's just the thing; terrorists or oppressive govornments DON'T care about their people. And the saying "All's fair in love and war" is a disgusting saying and I hope the person who came up with it is shot. And once again, it doesn't matter if it's just a threat, people are still going to take such a threat extremely badly.

  • What do you recommend we do then?

  • As for your 'perfect world' theory, allow me to make a few counterpoints; OR "One country gains all the power under one global dictatorship", OR "We destroy all human life and civilisation on earth." OR "We destroy the planet outright.", Or even both options 2 and 3 at once.

  • "One country gains all the power under one global dictatorship"

As long as it's the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South Korea, Israel, South Africa, India or even Australia, fine with me.

Besides, one moleculeof anti-matter is several billion dollars to make, its extremely expensive.

  • "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." Even if it's one of those countries that ends up ruling the world when things go tits-up, there is NO guarantee they'll be anything like they are now. But in any case, lets hope it remains impossible to make any appreciable amount of anti-matter.

  • even If you have the money, there is no way with today technology you could make enough amount of antimatter to make as a weapon

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • I am sorry, but the sheer callousness of what you just said boggles the mind.

  • I only want peace and order and to RID the world of terrorists, especially Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Tamil Tigers, Hamas and Hezbollah.

As for the people, remember, its war. Do you think Europe cared how many indigenous peoples they massacred for colonising land? Or how many innocent Germans were killed in World War II? Or how many Palestinians Israel killed to protect their citizens?

That's the thing about war, you become so jaded that you become determined to win at whatever costs.

  • We all want terrorists gone. We all want the various problems in the world gone, for that matter, but as long as there are people, there will be those problems. Israel weren't protecting their citizens, and I think they committed war-crimes by attacking civilian structures, places of sanctuary, and civilians themselves. As for the other two points, allow me to point out that almost anyone in charge of governing a country is a douchebag who will, as you said, try to win at any cost.

  • True dat, as long there as there is human being in this world, there will always conflict somewhere. It's just human nature. Shame our race can't work together as one. I blame the religion and nationalty for this.

  • u don't know Shaman's, so stfu. i was already in the edge of the universe, it would've taken light, maybe billion years til it would reach where i was looking. the human thought is the fastest in the universe, get over it, there's nothing faster than that.

  • there is something a lot faster than speed of light, the human thought. u can travel anywhere with this in a few sec's. the edge of the universe is boring, there is still space after the edge. the only reason why it's called the edge of space, is because all the light from the universe has an end, but not space, just continues forever and ever. if u can think better, the thought is faster than anything.

  • not really. thoughts are electrical signals, which arent faster than light....

  • wotever u say, i know what i saw, u'll never see what i've seen. u just a plain 'ol ignorant sponge that thinks certain ways, very obsolete.

  • I think mate what you saw was a dream, unless of course you happen to smoke cannabis.

  • Nice one.

  • anti matter the size of a penny can blow up the usa

  • Just making a point to consider before you all go into debates about the speed of light being infinite. Consider the theory of information?

  • is the antimatter in the book angels and demons acturate?

  • if you want to understand the anti you don´t have much friends hehe

  • I heard they travel about 99.99999999999 the speed of light.

  • yes indeed theey actually do. something with a mass cant reach the speed of light becuse a mass becomes heavier faster it travels. speed of light s the infinity speed. wich would mean that that mass would wieght more then all mass in the univers

  • what? things do not get heavier as they approach the speed of light. weight is a property of gravity. if you come anywhere near the speed of light, the only gravitational force that could withstand you would be a black whole. i think 22,000 mph, or somewhere around there, is the brakeing point of earths gravitational pull, not even close to the speed of light. infinite speed? light has a finite speed meaning it too has its limits. you need to check your references
