@paul556 antimatter exists but it isn't what you think. its normal matter that has an opposite charge and a different "spin". it's very much a normal part of our universe, but there is a lot more matter than antimatter. its true they come and annihilate in pairs, but the weak force has turned most antimatter into normal matter so those explosions "really" don't happen anymore. earth is made of matter but theres trace amounts of antimatter everywhere, even here.

I think the scientists that are qualified and intelligent enough to run the machines, and the people that are at the spearhead of this operation can figure out less mentally overwhelming and more practical ways to blow shit up.

uhm, to my knowledge antimatter DOES exist.
It has been around for quite a while actually, without us even knowing.. It's a naturally occuring phenomenon.
NASA is even thinking of getting some (it's floating around the earth), because going into space to get it would be cheaper than making it ourselves.

There aint any MATTER ANTIMATER in coliders.
When space was born a symetry between MATTER and ANTIMATTER went in favor of MATTER (scientists dont know how).
Sooo ALL antimater was used to destroy MOST of matter... but some matter could not be destroyed as there was not enough antimatter.
This is reason space is mostly an empty space with only a fractions of matter.

Most colliders don't collide hadrons, the LHC is one of the few.
They ALL produce antiparticles, as their function is to convert ENERGY into MASS (the kinetic energy of the two protons hitting each other generates a vast sea of particles ... baryons (3 quark hadrons), mesons (2 quark hadrons), gluons, photons, W+/-, Z, electrons, protons, neutrons, muons, taus (and their respective elecon/muon/tau neutrinos) ... as well as all the ANTIPARTICLES to each of the fundamental particles

The list goes ON AND ON, there are so many composite particles its impossible to list them all.
But as an example, a MESON, is a 2 quark hadron consisting of a quark and an antiquark, a composite particle made of matter and antimatter (eg. an up and antidown quark) ... note of course an up and anti up quark would annihilate, mesons are a quark and a DIFFERENT antiquark.
Either way antimatter is produced in great diversity in all high energy particle accelerators

Also, we don't know that space is 'empty', in fact we can only account for a small fraction of its mass, the rest is some unknown form of matter or energy we have yet to observe or characterize, which we call 'dark matter/energy'

Anti-matter does however exist in only trace amounts naturally around the Earth's ionosphere, and in the extremely radioactive region around the Earth known as the Van-Allen belt.
Those examples were formed when highly charged particles fired from the sun collided with particles in our ionosphere, with thousands of times more energy than the LHC

The best a modern particle accellerator can do is make a few anti-protons or anti-neutrons at a time. A anti-proton releases about 3x10^-8 joules when it colides with a proton. About 10,000 times less energy than a cricket chirping. I think we'll survive.

Anti-electrons are produced by high energy collisions in the upper atmosphere and rain down on virtually every part of the Earth. Put a cloud chamber any place on the planet and you'll detect them. That anti-matter exists on Earth has been known for over 75 years.

Yes.... many physicist claim that you can handle antimatter by having it suspended in a magnetic field. However, when you have antimatter suspended around matter, the antimatter just releases all its energy. So antimatter has to be suspended in a vacuum or in space where matter are very far apart from each other. And having something suspended between two magnetic fields does not stay suspended forever. Even diamagnetic objects fail to suspend in air for very long periods of time.

what? things do not get heavier as they approach the speed of light. weight is a property of gravity. if you come anywhere near the speed of light, the only gravitational force that could withstand you would be a black whole. i think 22,000 mph, or somewhere around there, is the brakeing point of earths gravitational pull, not even close to the speed of light. infinite speed? light has a finite speed meaning it too has its limits. you need to check your references
