My 350 WS6 Firebird gets 18 city / 27 highway - Not too far off of your little 4 beater - and then I have my laser which gets around 26 city and 34 highway.
NO thats what happends when u put cheap gas with less octain then it needs causing it to fire in the cylender b4 the spark goes off and thats working against the movement of the piston
i just fixed that problem in my 88 accord lx-i check your timing, egr and your knock censer. my timing was off. had a cracked cap! :) its a really easy fix, good luck!
use higher octane fuel...Spark knock is caused by the fuel detonating before the spark plug ignites the mixture, just in case you didn't already know.

Besides, I don't even have a new car. I have a 91 240SX with an SR20 swap. 22mpg city/30mpg highway. Couldnt ask for a better daily driver.
