hes just scared give him a few weeks to get use to his inclosure make sure he has a basking spot and a hiding spot that is cool and he needs a place to get wet, they are water monitors so he will not feel comfortable if you dont give him a habitat close to his habitat in the wild. also do not keep ckrickets in his cage they will bite him and climb on him irritating him and causing stress that could eventually kill him
make sure he has a really hot basking spot. from my experience with monitors 90% of feeding problems are because they do not have a proper basking spot. ill get them from people that keep them at 90 and they wont eat anything. after 2 or 3 days with a good basking spot of 120 or 130 and they eat everything in sight.
immmediately and often. you can feed it every other day or every 3 days or as often as it will eat, be prepared for it to shoot up in size my asian is only a year and a half and is already 3.5 feet
or longer. Your nile needs to adjust to you and its new environment I would give it a good month if not longer. eventually start spending more time around its cage and gradually get it more use to you
I mean, I know it's great for them, it's just kind of sad seeing them try and swim into the wall for a good 10 minutes
I feel bad for them
Anyway, I'm glad you actually did the research before getting a pet like this, I've been reading up on it for a couple months and once I finally get employed again I'm looking into getting one, always wanted one but with my old living situation, I just couldn't do it
Yeah, I have a walk in closet too and I considered making a Nile my choice and thinking about using that, but I just dont' think it's very likely I can pull that off, nor handy, so I'm just going to go with a Roughneck, I'd like to someday get a Nile, maybe when I get my own place and I have the room, I'm not buying a pet like that when I don't have the room, I don't want it to be unhappy
I've actually always been a reptile fan, I feel such a connection with them, I want a Nile Monitor pretty badly and I intend on getting one, but that's going to be down the road sometime because there's no way I can fit one in here. But something smaller like an Ackie or a Roughneck, those are what I'm considering, we'll see when the time comes :)
Got any other videos or such of your nile? I'm interested in seeing more if possible :)
Yeah dude i got a few more none of him in his new cage yet but I'll get them up soon Subscribe to my videos, you can type in jusafaze on the search and see all my videos that way.
this is cool but i thought niles were the more aggresive of the monitor species. i am looking to get a water monitor soon and i already have the perfect terrain idea(room size) but good luck with this one( he seems nicer than my iguana)
I got mine for $30 One this size will usually cost about $40-60. THats the cheapest part, they eat a lot and as they get bigger you will need a bigger cage such as a spare room or a walk in closet.
I got a 4 foot by 5 foot by 3 foot cage that I keep him in for now. I'm going to make My closet into a cage for him when he gets bigger. What type of Video?
until he grows up to be about 4 feet in a couple years and won't let you clean his cage without trying to kill you..... they get very un-cute very quickly.
yeah i realise that and ive been handling him so that he stays cute. I'm not an idiot when it comes to reptiles I do my research and have learned from expereriance. I know there are a lot of idiots that get reptiles and dont realise what they are gettin into but I can assure you that I am well aware of my future.
