The reason for the horn being sounded in seemingly random places, is that when the train has to pass a crossing the driver should warn anyone using the crossing. The crossing could be a country lane with manually operated gates, or a public footpath with just stiles either side of the line. If you get the chance to see out of the front of the train there is normally a white square sign with a black "W" to remind the driver. The "W" means whistle, from the steam days, which ended 40 years ago.
If anybody out there knows anything about trains, i'd love to know why they sound thier horn in random places. Is there any significant reason for it. Because I can't figure out the reason why the train would sounds its horn at 1.50 in the video.
