MMA is great, but they go to the ground too often, which you just don't want to to if there are multiple people on you and you're on pavement etc. MMA is better for MMA fights, jkd is great for self defense.

Jkd incorporates most of boxing, but gets rid of some things that aren't useful on the street (like relying on big gloves to block for you as happens sometimes in the sport). If focuses on controlling timing and distance, and hitting your opponent when he tries to hit you. It also uses low line kicks, eye jabs, clinch, takedown defense. How exactly is this not useful? Aikido, karate and kung fu are not great for actual fights. Jkd is totally different.

@mmalizard Boxing is great, and good for the streets until you get in the clinch, taken down or kicked in the balls. Muy thai is awesome, until you get kicked in the balls, or taken down. Obviously what would be really helpful in a fight would be a way of fighting where you box, and kick, while protecting your balls, having good clinch game and takedown defense, while also being able to defend on the ground. This is what we do when I train jkd... So what's your problem with this?

You DO realise that by dissing JKD, you are dissing MMA....because they are the EXACT same thing.

JKD is MMA...just like in MMA, you can choose pick and mix your styles. Everyones JKD is completely different, its personal to them, JUST like MMA is. Bruce Lees personal JKD included techniques from western boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Fencing, Karate and a few others.

My personal JKD includes boxing, muay thai, BJJ, Judo and wrestling.

Jkd isn't in the ring much, not because it's too deadly (I've never heard anyone say that) but because poking people in the eyes, hitting them in the groin and kicking them striaght in the knees is not allowed in mma fights... JKD is fake. It's not a style and all practitioners are FRAUDS AND FAKES. If i had a choice of fighters to study under it would probably be Jesse Glover or one of Bruce's earlier Seattle students. Lee never taught ANYONE his OWN personal style. He took that to his grave. James Demile has said that many times. JKD was just away for Lee to make money. if you watch the first ufc ever u see that there is a broader spectrum of styles on trial.gracie ju jitsu actually organised the first ufc tornament. if you watch it you will see downward digging elbows to the cevical vertabre being used on those that try take downs. This is now banned along with many other things eg: pincer neck drops (to squeese the persons head to their upper arm and heave back while sitting down) also punches to the throat were being used.
