  • @JoshiBlackJ fast

  • Hey thanks so much for this! Also after I did my squats today the top left side of my left knee hurt a little when I would bend down or bend my leg. Is this from improper squatting or just from working out???

  • @mattownsu1 It could be a lot of things. Check out my foam rolling video to learn some effective tissue movements.

  • I LOVE SQUATTING, AND I NEVER SQUAT ON A SMITH MACHINE, IT'S SO UNCOMFORTABLE!! I LOVE FREE STYLE SQUATTING, WATCH MY SQUATS ON MY FIT CHANNEL!!!

  • Has anyone ever used torrent by universal and animal?

  • @SteveKielProductions I review various pre workout drinks on my channel. Check it out!

  • jesus...his biceps are bigger than his head

  • @oggynosh Dude, he doesnt have to!

  • nice camerawoman ;)

  • i agree i was shy first starting squats because know it all's telling me i'm doing it wrong instead of just helping me out. I'd be doing them while people are staring at me and I'm just like seriously, fuck off!

  • is it ok if i squat , i`m 15 !! ??

  • Wow--your back and shoulders = amazing! Perfect Y-shape!

  • @Stanlos Thanks!

  • uggh dont put your knees out, when he does that he doesnt even go low. Its a matter of time before he tears something

  • is it just me or should his legs be closer together (shoulder length) and his knees should not go past the toe line

  • heey what is the ideal weight i should be able to do?

    i am 15 n i weight 135lbs, today (7/19/2010) i did 3x3 of 225lbs

how can i improve on that?

what excercises can i do at home that will benefit my squad max?

  • sorry but the purpose of a squat is not to active the lats. Flairing your knees out is just taking the workload off the quads. The #1 purpose of the squat is to build the quad.. Don't want to sound like a hater but it took me years to realize the best way to do squats is not to use tricks to gain 5-10lbs.. squat the right way and make your legs do the work..

  • @Nate666m3tal you need to make sure that you dont take protein powder and always keep the right form, also eating several small meals a day will keep you from indulging in load of snacks and give your body plenty of energy to grow and build at the same time. No excercise is going to stunt your growth so long as you do it right, but if you damage your lower back you will stunt your growth, so keep your abs tight and maybe wear one of them large belts which the strongmen wear.

  • Deffinately need to go a LOT lower, you want to transfer the stress to your glutes at the bottom, by going very shallow your putting all the stress on your knees dude

  • @oggynosh He's taller than most people...

  • Great instructions, thanks.

  • when i squat the bar starts to bend. i like to think i look beastly

  • about 2-3 inches high, not sitting back enough, not tight enough if you can talk, follow through with hips more at top.

  • Why the fuck does everyone squat differently 0.o

Makes it so hard for me to find the correct form...

  • yo brother think i can run so i dont have to squad to build the hormone growth for my chest, bicep, and triceps?

  • so in short if you train your legs too, you'll grow more muscle in your upper body as well?

  • Yeah everything on this vidio was correct minus his knees....

they should never go that far past your knees, that puts too much pressure and strain on your knees and will cause injurey....

    -Booty arch...

    -sholders back..

    -stick but out far

-be somewhat mosly on your heels

-dont let knees go over toes.

-when going up keep a booty arch(helps to look up as you lift becuse it keeps your back in good form..)

  • do i have to do it fast or slow?

i want to train my vert and i heard i have to do the exercise fast to train my FT muscles...but in all videos they do it slow...so which speed?

  • do i have to do it fast or slow?

because you have to train you FT muscles i heard that i have to make the exercises quick...but in this video he does it slow...

  • @JoshiBlackJ It was slow for demonstrations. Do it fast.

  • I quit squatting when I noticed my butt getting bigger and bigger. Not good.

  • shouldn;t your legs stand closer to eachother?.. thanks for the vid tho

  • NEVER EVERF SQUAT IN A SMITH MACHINE> That's strength and athletics 101......

  • Don't squat in a smith

  • @themaggot1986 Right but that's a power rack. Learn the difference.

  • Very helpful demonstration. thanks for posting this video.

  • i was always taught to never let your knees go past your toes when squatting. i was taught that you wanna go down so that your legs are 90 degrees, or so that your hams are parallel with the ground, without having you knees go past your toes. this requires me to stick my butt out more and bend more at the hips. is this correct form?

  • @mrtolido

I forgot to add that you must go all the way down to parallel or lower. Otherwise you will not be activating the posterior chain and will risk knee pain.

Yes, believe it or not, but not squatting lower than parallel will cause knee pain or injuries because your knees have a force being applied to them in such a way they are not designed. Lifting is a combination or physics, human nature, and bio-mechanics. But you don't need a degree to understand that ;)

  • if stunt growth is true, what would mostly cause it? like benching or squating? cause im 14 right now and i think im doing to much on the bench but i always wondered if squating ever stunts ur growth more?

  • hottt

  • That's like, the same workout that I do, we should be BFF.

  • good tips thank's a lot

  • Hey is my workout good for someone starting strength training? It seems small to me but the last 5 is always extremely hard. I lift 3 days a week and do cardio (swimming like 1.5KM) 2 days a week.

    1 set of 5X5 deadlifts

    1 set of 5X5 squats

Usually around 50 crunches just thrown in.

I increase my weight like every 2 sets. I only do one set a day though, should I do more? I also do light cardio before lifting.

  • Good job bro, thanks for the info, this is the best video on the net. I just started doing squats again so I need all the tips I can get. Thanks Again

  • dude i have to put my volume all the way up....

  • everything is good, but you should defintly lower ur hips below ur knees

  • hey ive been squatting for awhile with 10lb plates under my heels for awhile and ppl say thats bad......but the thing is my heels wont stay on the ground! can anyone help me?!?!

  • if your having problems grounding ur heels its prolly cause ur bending at the knees and not squating backwards and bending at the waist

  • Hey ZKB, Don't put any plates under your heels. You might want to consider wearing flat shoes (like Converse, or wrestling shoes) when doing squats. Also, when you come up you may want to point your big toes upward so that the weight of the bar is concentrated on your heels. Look for Mark Rippetoe's training videos. I learned to squat from Rip. Good luck.

  • your heels leaving the ground could indicate tight hip flexors or calves, do some flexibility work.

  • nothing to do with hip flexors, hip extensors maybe.

  • wider stances

  • dang, you're really 6ft 6? that's pretty tall, i'm 6'1 and i feel tall at the gym, you have a great build for your height though, very nice job.

  • ha

jimmy man doing squats do it improve your vertical leap because i play basketball am 6 feet am hoping to be able to dunk by high school am 14 by the way

  • Why were you laughing camera person?

  • thanks for the help

  • Nice video.

I would say you need to drop your butt about 6 more inches though before you reach 90 degrees.

But still, I like your videos.

  • man i used to hate squatting .. i started squatting 135 i had trouble doing them and my form sucked now my max is 275 just in 4 weeks :D lol now my fav exercise is squatting .. btw i weight 140.. thanks for the tips

  • U know ur stuff! can you do a video about push-up or bench regarding the angle of the elbow?

  • so squating will make you a bit taller?im 13 and the most im doing right now is 225 8 times.

  • slow down, your choking on your words. ;D

  • i think your head is shrinking....do some head presses or something... i mean come on here brontosaurus head.

  • come on guys. This is the muscle building king. look at this guy!

  • Its helps us to have a better physic and makes us good looking.

  • These exercises helps to make us slim and attractive and good looking.

  • Your tall dude! What do you do for calves? Also I need more quad sweep, what helps that?

  • For calves I stick with 3-4 exercises of standing and seated calf raises for 6-12 reps. Drop sets work well for calves.

For the outer sweep, increase your front squatting volume.

  • Calves are mostly composed of slow twitch fibers. There not meant for size increases. No matter what you do there not going to grow. There not suppose to. You either got them or you don't.

  • u are wrong. u are saying slow twitch fibres can't grow, HAHAHA IDIOT.

  • theres no evidence for that, its different for everyone.

  • i lack those elbows kept far to the back to tighten the back...now i'm seeing more things...

  • Nice

  • ok man ive just watched some of you videos and i like your personality and you know what your talking about! just subbed. :)

  • Awesome brother

  • Im like 6;! and I cant squat good like my body wont let me go down enough what should i do?

  • put something under ur heels. Keep like that for a month or something - it should help u :)

  • Well that works well for the VMO

  • I feel you, I'm 6'6. Just go as deep as you can go comfortably.

  • Well you'll have to really increase your squat. That's the best way to increase your vertical leap

  • i am a big football/basketabll player and i was wondering what would be best to improve my vertica jump plz respond.

  • I actually suggest you do plyometrics, do some research on that, trust me if you want more hops plyometrics is what you want. Some good ones are box jumps, jump squats, and wall touches. Theres a bunch more just do some reasearch.

  • you could also try some cleans, it helps me explode more, it may help you work on jumping. polymetrics are also a great idea like dameety said, you just have to look them up and have a nice open space.

  • How's the vert coming?

  • plyometrics!! Research it. Worked for me

  • great vid, how many reps would u reccommend for each set, and how many sets should a begginer start off with?

  • Interesting, I find spreading my knees apart just makes it easier and doesn't hit the necessary muscles.

  • So 3 sets of 12 will not be as effective for a guy of 6'8" on most exercise...

  • It will be but you have to make sure you change up your sets/reps.

  • Man it's tough for sure. You've got to eat a ton of calories and really overtrain your leg with high reps or else they'll never grow...

  • Thanks for that information Jimmy! I never knew that the legs had to flare apart during the squat. I'm 6'8" and finding it hard to build significant muscle. It seems that I have to work twice as hard as the average height person to see any change, not to mention the eating! How do you handle that with your height of 6'6"?
