Not only did the Persians not like the movie but even the greeks didnt like the movie because it was an attempt to change history with hollywood as its architect. And it was really funny how the movie just happened to be made when theres alot of tension between Iran and usa.
The movie is not just 20-40%. It's about 90% accurate. Only some of the CGI shots were what altered from history. As far as the story, it's completely true, down to the part where they kill the babies if they are physically unfit. The movie is 100% based on the graphic novel, so you can't say it was Hollywood that's changing the history. Of course the greek wouldn't like the movie - they were portrayed as weak, the Persians as barbarians.

The battle takes place 480 BC, at the Thermopylae. King Leonidas I took 300 of his personal bodyguards, because the Spartan religion and customs forbade war at the time of the year. There were a total of 7000 greeks and spartans under Leonidas's command and they held off the 'Immortals'. Leonidas was killed by arrows, but Xerxes ordered his body crucified and his head cut off, not shown in the movie. A year later, the full Spartan army assembled and held off the Persians. Also, Now some inaccurate things: The Persians are pretty much white (or definitely not as dark). The Arcadians didn't retreat. It was the "Thebans" that left, some were actually kept as hostages. However, most of the small details (such as "Return with your shield... or on it") were Spartan custom and wifes often said that to men going to battle. If a Spartan returned with no shield, it was considered that he retreated or surrendered.

The Persians are from asia but the whole ninja outfit just overdid it. Ephialtes was most likely not a hunch back. The Greeks were bisexual and homosexuality was very "normal" in ancient Greece. The Persians have in no other records before crucified or decapitated people like it is said they did to Leonidas. And as i said before history is always written by the victor. And the one that wrote about this part of history wrote it 20 years after it happened.
People in ancient Persia had more freedom than the Greeks and slavery was forbidden in Persia, its true that democracy probibly originated from Greece but it really wasnt democracy because women,slaves and immigrants were not allowed to vote, out of 250000 people in a Greek city state probably 5000 regularly attended the assemblies to vote.
But human rights on the other hand originated in Persia acouple of hundred years before democracy and all people in ancient Persia was treated equally while in Greece they were not having that "luxury".
The Persians were monotheists and believed in Zoroastrianism so i find it very unlikely that people saw Xerxes as a god or that he considered himself as one.
And according to Herodotus the Persians whipped the sea because they lost their fleet to it, i find this also unbelieveble because the Persians revered Fire And Water , theese were elements honored by them as Zoroastrians.

we did that as well . but we did cyrus cambyses darius and a bit on xerxes and all about the persian war with greece . it was interesting enough but would have been more interesting in abit more detail. i would like to have avoided doing greek democracy which bored the shit out of me in return for more persia. a greater and longer lasting culture in my view . modern greek cultre was resurected by romantic westerners.

BY the way, the spartans would have RAPED the samurai. No question. Any type of ancient battle gear not including fire from the Byzantine Greeks, any time before the Byzantines basically, Spartans would have been superior no question. The Roman Centurion lost 14 battles to small Spartan platoons, until eventually Athens decided to join a regional part of the Roman Empire, and the wars were over. Don't compare Samurai to Spartans. Now Ninja, they MIGHT have a chance.

I like their bow's in the movie but they did make more use of them. in history, the persian's main weapon of choice was the composite bow and every soldier in the persian army was required to learn how to shoot them. and again, the persians were famous for their archers and they only used their bows 3 times in the movie very briefly,

Not only did the Persians not like the movie but even the greeks didnt like the movie because it was an attempt to change history with hollywood as its architect. And it was really funny how the movie just happened to be made when theres alot of tension between Iran and usa.

The movie is not just 20-40%. It's about 90% accurate. Only some of the CGI shots were what altered from history. As far as the story, it's completely true, down to the part where they kill the babies if they are physically unfit. The movie is 100% based on the graphic novel, so you can't say it was Hollywood that's changing the history. Of course the greek wouldn't like the movie - they were portrayed as weak, the Persians as barbarians.

The battle takes place 480 BC, at the Thermopylae. King Leonidas I took 300 of his personal bodyguards, because the Spartan religion and customs forbade war at the time of the year. There were a total of 7000 greeks and spartans under Leonidas's command and they held off the 'Immortals'. Leonidas was killed by arrows, but Xerxes ordered his body crucified and his head cut off, not shown in the movie. A year later, the full Spartan army assembled and held off the Persians. Hope that was helpful

Also, Now some inaccurate things: The Persians are pretty much white (or definitely not as dark). The Arcadians didn't retreat. It was the "Thebans" that left, some were actually kept as hostages. However, most of the small details (such as "Return with your shield... or on it") were Spartan custom and wifes often said that to men going to battle. If a Spartan returned with no shield, it was considered that he retreated or surrendered.

The Persians are from asia but the whole ninja outfit just overdid it. Ephialtes was most likely not a hunch back. The Greeks were bisexual and homosexuality was very "normal" in ancient Greece. The Persians have in no other records before crucified or decapitated people like it is said they did to Leonidas. And as i said before history is always written by the victor. And the one that wrote about this part of history wrote it 20 years after it happened.

People in ancient Persia had more freedom than the Greeks and slavery was forbidden in Persia, its true that democracy probibly originated from Greece but it really wasnt democracy because women,slaves and immigrants were not allowed to vote, out of 250000 people in a Greek city state probably 5000 regularly attended the assemblies to vote.

The Persians were monotheists and believed in Zoroastrianism so i find it very unlikely that people saw Xerxes as a god or that he considered himself as one.
And according to Herodotus the Persians whipped the sea because they lost their fleet to it, i find this also unbelieveble because the Persians revered Fire And Water , theese were elements honored by them as Zoroastrians.
