This is great... I've consulted your videos on both Foggy Mountain Breakdown and Cripple Creek for the banjo, and they have been extremely helpful. Thank you for your dedication to bluegrass music and learners like myself.
That was awesome! Very impressive. Do you offer any personal instruction via the internet or just the videos posted on YouTube? By the way, does it really matter if you don't anchor your ring finger on the head when playing? I feel that anchoring the pinky finger is stable enough and keeping both fingers down on the head seems to hinder my flexibility and right hand.
What ya gotta do is have another set of hands come out from behind you, play the guitar at the same time, while your finshing of the tune with the banjo.
Rob i wanna thank you for your cripple creek lesson on here. i just graduated high school and for my senior project i played the banjo. All it took was about a week of practice and i had it down pat and made a perfect score. I've been searching drastically for a dueling banjo lesson but i can't find any worth a darn. I wouldn't wanna take lessons from anybody but you, you're awesome!!! - Thanks Matt
I'm with lITTLE COLONEL11 on this one, would you consider a Duelling Banjo's' tutorial in the same professional style as 'Cripple Creek'? there are a great deal of people willing to possibly pay for this!!
We all look forward to you your reply on this one :-)
Arthur Smith wrote 'Feuding Banjos' in 1955 as a banjo duel between him and Don Reno. In 1972, the makers of the movie 'Deliverence' used the song and made it a banjo / guitar duel. Not only were they too stupid to figure out that this made the title 'Dueling Banjos' seem odd, they also forgot to credit Smith and Reno, who later sued for royalties, and won.
brilliant, 12:42 AM and he's still up doing this. My kind of guy. Its no wonder people have stopped watching TV when you can get this at 1:20 in the morning !!!
that was great, i just subscribed to your site. the wife bought me a banjo for christmas(what was she thinking.lol) cant wait to check out some of your lessons
Rob--I think the banjo won!;-)--thot the guitar was going to get the last word in, but I was wrong---this was too good, and a first viewing of such a feat for me.....!amazing....I'm going to get my hands on a banjo, somehow!--you entertain and inspire!
I'm actually looking for the bass drum, knee cymbal motion activated apparatus for my day gig. I entertain outside, usually playing a six string banjo and singing Tin Pan Alley tunes. I think the one man band thing would really step things up for me. I'd probably lose a whole lot of weight by summers end as well.
That is fabulous! I never picked up a banjo. I have my hands full learning ~more~ guitar. I have a nice 200 y/o german violin I want to learn to play someday. But I digress! Great Job! You elevated the Esteban!
Yes, I am entering my 13th year there. I have been working with the girls trio more the last few years, so I don't play the banjo as much as I used to. Thanks for remembering. Introduce yourself the next time you're out there.
did you ever practice alot?

realraven2000 1 year ago
@realraven2000 No, just open G tuning. I have been playing long enough not to get confused.
