I don't use AMD because I need more power than the Phenom x6 (a GTX 570, it can be CPU-limited with that). I won't try to play Civilization V with that Oo

I still have this old computer.. amd 1.8 ghz and ati radeon 9600 se.. now the original was 1.8ghz and nvidia with same ram.. can't remember.. but nvidia fried few months later while this amd processor lives on for over 7 years now along with 7 year old graphics chip. I'm about to build new computer and i'll go with amd phenom or somthin 2 x6 1100t and 1gb or 2gb graphics card. probably 6950 sapphire.. AMD is the best. Source my own experience trust me.
Okay, PCs are GPU limited for these kid's games... But pop FSX in and try the AMD. :( No comparison. I wish AMD would put Bulldozer out so Intel would be cheaper! Until then, my i7 960 will be at the top of the pile with the rest of Intel's high ends.

It doesn't seem like AMD is doing well to the average user, but when AMD starts cutting Intel off with good pricing AND great GPU's, I think Intel will find itself lacking room for expansion at some point in time within the next five years. They are perilously close to the 4 Ghz limit, and that in itself may cause them trouble.

Well, AMD bought ATI. Although Mr. Taylor doesn't exactly say it, he eludes to the differing philosophies of the 2 companies. AMD is after your respect, Intel is after your wallet. Thank you AMD! I have no interest in funding Intel's mass marketing. If Intel is so good, why do they have to keep trying to convince me of it? AMD gets nearly half the market share with not so much as a billboard. Intel was giving incentives to system builders like dell, gateway, and others if they did not sell PC's with AMD chips, or if they did not sell wide variety of AMD based PC's. i think AMD is a great company, you get a lot of chip for the money, a quad core AMD can make a supper gaming rig if you match the other components along with it then you still have a little money left over.

The CPU is equally as important as the GPU. I would actually like to see you try Crysis on high with 4xAA and 1080p resolution. I don't believe that you can get a playable gameplay with a Pentium D with these settings.

The CPU is the brain of a computer. It prevents the application from freezing or crashing. And I'm sure nobody wants their gaming apps to freeze in the middle of a game. A better CPU can also get you more frames too.

My AMD Sempron gets above 100*Fahrenheit. somewhere between 100 and 115. sure you can say AMD is cheaper, but i found a Core 2 Duo laptop for $399 and a similar AMD machine with a slower bus speed for $430. hmmm. even the low end pentium dual cores have a faster bus speed than the AMD dual core...
intel is a slightly slower gaming proccessor than AMD, AMD doesnt run multiple programs as well. so both have weakpoints and strongpoints but in the end it is simply personal choice! (AMDs r easyr 2 break wen putting into mothrboard, intel r hard 2 break)
I worked at tigerdirect for a long time and I can tell you that he's 100% correct. Intel offers no real advantage to AMD in 90% of all cases. Choosing Intel over AMD is like choosing Mac over PC. There are some intances (rare instances) that the Intel will give an advantage but it's just not worth it. Also, as long as AMD is around, it keeps Intel honest (except antitrust violations). Can you imagine if Intel had a monopoly on x86 chips? We'd be in HELL!!!
AMD is not trying to compete against the i7, the phenom is a quad. while the i7 is a quad that is basicly doing 2 things at once. Yes i7 will beat it in most programs/games. But if you look at the 965 and the i7 they are only 10% max from each other when gaming. Im not bashing either, it's just what you can get at the time. Im spending $1600 on a dragon platform, and to go intel with an i7 920 and an x58 motherboard it adds another $600. AMD is just targeting the midrange market.
AMD is actually very stable, I don't understand what people are saying about it being unstable, overclock my 7750 AMD from 2700MHz to 3270MHz on air without one crash under stress without being shut off for 5 days+ at a time, and for a 50 dollar processor, Intel might give you a 900MHz single core....why bother with losing more money for the same thing? I looked at Intel to price recently, and found i can make a from scratch amd rig complete with 6g ddr3 ram for less than an intel cpu alone...
my buddy has a 955 water cooled i have a i7 920 on air and i destroy his machine i can run all day at 4.2 on air cooling he cant keep 3.8 stable and even if i go down to 3.8 there is still no comparison and he has water cooling lol

Still this only matters in games. But for a person who is a power user, uses it for encoding/editing videos, graphic design, 3d modeling, etc.. then the intel processor does make a difference. For casual users and gamers then it only makes a little difference. The new Phenom II CPUs though is another league on it's own. The Phenom II X3 720 BE gives a lot of value at a lower price.
Okay maybe I'm being too hard on Intel. But even the review testers say the processors can't be pushed by the other components, so we're paying to wait. And then something else comes out, every plateau is a step. Sure it'll last but it isn't the new thing. They know what they're doing, they'll design a 100 and then ship a 90 and praise it, then later sell the 100 and maybe a 95 while building the 130. I'd just rather pay AMD prices, and they have an overclocking competition so they're into it.

Pat Moorhead is comparing an AMD 9950 with Intel QX9650, Intel is faster because the QX9650 is 45nm which is more energy efficient and runs cooler so it increases performance, AMD 9950 is using 65nm which runs hotter uses more power and slows down performance. So how can it have the same performance. There is a reason why Intel CPU is $1,000. you get what you pay for.
I currently own a Duo Core 2 based system and I gotta tell ya.. I dont see a real difference. My AMD system ran my games just as good and lets face it. Open Office only taxes my system so much. Amd has started later and with a huge failure at 2001 (there was a testing and the amd chip went on fire). in 2008 they are going green, cheap , and much better :D

I do believe Intel has the fastest quad cores but first of all, the price is what matters to many people and secondly, just like what the guy said in this video, you don't need that great of a CPU for home use. I have a fairly old 2.4GHz dual core Opteron (socket 939) and that plays COD4 without exceeding 90% CPU usage. My 7900GT is my downfall.
With cool'n'quiet disabled on today's quad cores, AMD is probably the winner, I haven't heard much about quad cores recently but I am aware AMD has been making immense progress. I'm aware of the "fake" quad core intel did. AMD took the tough way out and made all 4 cores but they weren't prepared so it failed at the start. If the airflow is bad the computer will get worse performance by time and the overheating might damage some parts overtime.
The power supply loses it's power over time, this goes for all power supplies.
so in other words more watt more durabillity. But it takes years to effect it. for example 1 year 5% of the watt power is lost.

Well, AMD bought ATI. Although Mr. Taylor doesn't exactly say it, he eludes to the differing philosophies of the 2 companies. AMD is after your respect, Intel is after your wallet. Thank you AMD! I have no interest in funding Intel's mass marketing. If Intel is so good, why do they have to keep trying to convince me of it? AMD gets nearly half the market share with not so much as a billboard. Another thought... if Intel is so good, why does the US military use AMD?

Intel was giving incentives to system builders like dell, gateway, and others if they did not sell PC's with AMD chips, or if they did not sell wide variety of AMD based PC's. The CPU is equally as important as the GPU. I would actually like to see you try Crysis on high with 4xAA and 1080p resolution. I don't believe that you can get a playable gameplay with a Pentium D with these settings.

The CPU is the brain of a computer. It prevents the application from freezing or crashing. And I'm sure nobody wants their gaming apps to freeze in the middle of a game. A better CPU can also get you more frames too.

I worked at tigerdirect for a long time and I can tell you that he's 100% correct. Intel offers no real advantage to AMD in 90% of all cases. Choosing Intel over AMD is like choosing Mac over PC. There are some intances (rare instances) that the Intel will give an advantage but it's just not worth it. Also, as long as AMD is around, it keeps Intel honest (except antitrust violations). Can you imagine if Intel had a monopoly on x86 chips? We'd be in HELL!!!

AMD is not trying to compete against the i7, the phenom is a quad. while the i7 is a quad that is basicly doing 2 things at once. Yes i7 will beat it in most programs/games. But if you look at the 965 and the i7 they are only 10% max from each other when gaming. Im not bashing either, it's just what you can get at the time. Im spending $1600 on a dragon platform, and to go intel with an i7 920 and an x58 motherboard it adds another $600. AMD is just targeting the midrange market.

AMD is actually very stable, I don't understand what people are saying about it being unstable, overclock my 7750 AMD from 2700MHz to 3270MHz on air without one crash under stress without being shut off for 5 days+ at a time, and for a 50 dollar processor, Intel might give you a 900MHz single core....why bother with losing more money for the same thing? I looked at Intel to price recently, and found i can make a from scratch amd rig complete with 6g ddr3 ram for less than an intel cpu alone...

Still this only matters in games. But for a person who is a power user, uses it for encoding/editing videos, graphic design, 3d modeling, etc.. then the intel processor does make a difference. For casual users and gamers then it only makes a little difference. The new Phenom II CPUs though is another league on it's own. The Phenom II X3 720 BE gives a lot of value at a lower price.

Okay maybe I'm being too hard on Intel. But even the review testers say the processors can't be pushed by the other components, so we're paying to wait. And then something else comes out, every plateau is a step. Sure it'll last but it isn't the new thing. They know what they're doing, they'll design a 100 and then ship a 90 and praise it, then later sell the 100 and maybe a 95 while building the 130. I'd just rather pay AMD prices, and they have an overclocking competition so they're into it.

Pat Moorhead is comparing an AMD 9950 with Intel QX9650, Intel is faster because the QX9650 is 45nm which is more energy efficient and runs cooler so it increases performance, AMD 9950 is using 65nm which runs hotter uses more power and slows down performance. So how can it have the same performance. There is a reason why Intel CPU is $1,000. you get what you pay for.

The point is that you pay the 1000 bucks for the QX due to overclocking.
You can get good Intel CPUs with the same clock much cheaper but it misses the extra-features like the unlocked multiplier.

the AMD would win since its proportionally cheaper. I do believe Intel has the fastest quad cores but first of all, the price is what matters to many people and secondly, just like what the guy said in this video, you don't need that great of a CPU for home use. I have a fairly old 2.4GHz dual core Opteron (socket 939) and that plays COD4 without exceeding 90% CPU usage. My 7900GT is my downfall.

With cool'n'quiet disabled on today's quad cores, AMD is probably the winner, I haven't heard much about quad cores recently but I am aware AMD has been making immense progress. I'm aware of the "fake" quad core intel did. AMD took the tough way out and made all 4 cores but they weren't prepared so it failed at the start. I think intel now has true quad cores and they just release i think a 6 core? I feel bad for AMD, its not their fault they aren't a large greedy corporation

yes, but the problem is CPU DOES MATTER. because cpu is pretty much everything, the gpu just helps the pictures go better but cpu controlls the speed and reaction.
