You gotta love that era of video games where voice acting was still new to video games, and as a result was absolutely terrible. I wouldn't be surprised if the voice actors were just dev team members.
Just finished the game and I liked it. But I noticed, that you have red blood in the US version, while I am stuck with the European version, which uses green blood. Still very funny game. Kinda mix between RE Super Mario and Duke Nukem. lol
i remember when blue stinger was only in magazines i was like man this game is going to be INCREDIBLE!!!! then i played it and i was like, man this is TERRIBLE! lol.. i was having a hard time understanding how something with such amazing graphics could be so lame haha

Has anyone else played the Japanese version of this? I happen to own it, and it's got more issues. They tried to use fixed camera angles, and whenever your guy enters a new angle, the controls fuck up. That, and the music overrides the voice acting during cutscenes.

This and Sonic Adventure i got on my Birthday, which just so happened to be 9/9/99. I fell in love with this game. Everything about it was new compared to any other game. Yes the voice acting sucked, i loved the music, i loved the christmas theme!. But this is truely one game that must be played by everyone who loves horror genre games. Great review guys, there was a lot of humourous moments. I remember that Blue Stinger was one of the first games I had for Dreamcast, I really couldn't get into it no matter how hard I tried. Maybe I would appreciate it more now that I am a lot older. Doubt I am going to give it another try though.

@Newellx66 hey, tell me whats wrong with your dreamcast. there's many ways to fix them for free. ive fixed a few back in the day. like reading problems, power problems, controller problems. all free solutions to those issues. unless your gd-rom is completely dead, but usually thats not the case. with my dreamcast i had to calibrate my drive by turning a tiny screw a little bit to the left or right. i forget. but my dreamcast still works, and i bought it in 99 :)

This game was great fun though dated by today's standards (especially from a control aspect). Gotta love the ridiculous cheesiness with giant floating coins and flaming roundhouse. Also this was the best graphics in 1999.

I remember I got this game along with my Dreamcast on Xmas '99. The stupid game was defective and all I had to play was the demo CD that came with the console LOL. Ahh... nostalgia.
Believe it or not, Activision made Climax improve the NA version of the game. There are fewer glitches and the camera perspective was completely changed. The JP version had fixed camera angles, Resident Evil style.
I liked this game alot. I always thought the Christmas music/adverts, guns in vending machines, and monsters spewing money was a jab at corporations. How marketing execs will try to twist a tragedy into a selling point or how technology is replacing human interaction so much that (in the game) even retail workers are obsolete. Power Stone 2 was another of my favorite DC games just because it was a blast to play.
Oh no no no no no no....you didn't. I played this game for about 10 minutes before I tossed it aside. Horrible! LOL. I can't believed you guys suffered through the whole thing. I will admit, the vending machines selling guns and Christmas theme was pretty funny.
It really is sad that the creator of this great game past away. There was a cliffhanger at the end of the game though to set up what would have been Red Stinger. I love to imagine what kind of game they had in mind for a sequel based on that cliffhanger cut scene.
Played and completed both BS and IB. BS is a better game for the time. BS was a DC launc title and combined adventure, horror, action, and fun. Still got this game, and still got the DC. Love finding the baseball bat in the store about 10 mins into the game.
I got this with my Dreamcast on release. I also got Sonic Adventure and Virtua Fighter 3. I didn't really appreciate it like you guys; it was a steaming turd.

That's what makes Blue Stinger so rad. Its creativity is off the charts. It would be nice to see a sequel or even a remake but that probably won't happen.

p.s. can you do a video for beat em up games? (like final fight, streets of rage, and alien versus predator arcade, to name a few) i love classic beat em ups. it could be divided up into parts if possible.
Blue Stinger came out a few months earlier (original japanese releases). Sure the Konami publishing/marketing won't tell you SEGA beat them! US releases came out at the same time basically, with Silent Hill leading by a few weeks because of Dreamcast release date.
i remember seen a photo of alone in the dark 1 and 2 in games magazines when i was little too bad i never get the chance of playing them due to the (M) rated and also i dont have a PC back then i only played 3 on the ps1 and the new one that relased on all the platform i have the ps2 version.
"Bad but good" "A hodgepodge of out of place ideas that somehow work" - that is SEGA all over! So many cheesy arcade classics!
I recently got a Dreamcast and just got my filthy mitts on a Saturn so am looking forward to checking out some of its many, many shooters. I'd highly reccomend the Dreamcast to everyone though - PARTICULARILY if you like fun, fast action, bright colours and Godawful dubbing!
U know, I actually came across Blue Stinger & bought it for 10 bux a while back. Only to be disappointed by the game not working @ all. It's mega hard to find Dreamcast games in my genre of interest that actually work.
Should be very cheap on Ebay - once you get used to using it, you can get some real bargains on there and many, well, not so much 'bargains', but items you would NEVER find in any local store or ANY store for that matter! I've bought tons of great games, consoles, manga, peripherals etc. from there and rarely have any difficulty - if I do it is always sorted out. I bought a Dreamcast recently and this game came with it! I always presumed it was a bit of a poo game but will have a look! ^_^.

Great review guys! This is arguably my most favorite game on the Dreamcast.
I really do hope either Climax Graphics or someone makes a good solid sequel in the future, that won't leave the "See You Next Adventure" message at the end of the game hanging.

Believe it or not, Activision made Climax improve the NA version of the game. There are fewer glitches and the camera perspective was completely changed. The JP version had fixed camera angles, Resident Evil style.

I liked this game alot. I always thought the Christmas music/adverts, guns in vending machines, and monsters spewing money was a jab at corporations. How marketing execs will try to twist a tragedy into a selling point or how technology is replacing human interaction so much that (in the game) even retail workers are obsolete. Power Stone 2 was another of my favorite DC games just because it was a blast to play.

It really is sad that the creator of this great game past away. There was a cliffhanger at the end of the game though to set up what would have been Red Stinger. I love to imagine what kind of game they had in mind for a sequel based on that cliffhanger cut scene.

Played and completed both BS and IB. BS is a better game for the time. BS was a DC launc title and combined adventure, horror, action, and fun. Still got this game, and still got the DC. Love finding the baseball bat in the store about 10 mins into the game.

That's what makes Blue Stinger so rad. Its creativity is off the charts. It would be nice to see a sequel or even a remake but that probably won't happen.

Blue Stinger being Resident Evil 3D? I thought SIlent Hill was the first 3D game of it's kind (survival horror).

Blue Stinger came out a few months earlier (original japanese releases). Sure the Konami publishing/marketing won't tell you SEGA beat them! US releases came out at the same time basically, with Silent Hill leading by a few weeks because of Dreamcast release date.

I loved this game and got many good memories from it.
I used to think the bosses where really scary and i remember i loved the christmas place. :)
To bad they never finished the sequel.
Maybe i will start a new game on this soon because i havent played it in many years now.

I recently got a Dreamcast and just got my filthy mitts on a Saturn so am looking forward to checking out some of its many, many shooters. I'd highly reccomend the Dreamcast to everyone though - PARTICULARILY if you like fun, fast action, bright colours and Godawful dubbing!

I love this game. Play it all the time. I liked running around mugging the monsters so I could get really good weapons early.
And yes...the music is good in this game.

U know, I actually came across Blue Stinger & bought it for 10 bux a while back. Only to be disappointed by the game not working @ all. It's mega hard to find Dreamcast games in my genre of interest that actually work.

Should be very cheap on Ebay - once you get used to using it, you can get some real bargains on there and many, well, not so much 'bargains', but items you would NEVER find in any local store or ANY store for that matter! I've bought tons of great games, consoles, manga, peripherals etc. from there and rarely have any difficulty - if I do it is always sorted out. I bought a Dreamcast recently and this game came with it! I always presumed it was a bit of a poo game but will have a look! ^_^.

this game was so god awful, and i wouldnt ahve had it any other way...me and my friend played through it back in high school and still talk about it to this day, quoting its msot god awful parts, and poking fun at how every time u wanted some health u ahd to watch the dude eat a tv dinner haha...so good...so bad
i cant believe u didnt mention the wierdest/creepiest/most out of place scene in the game when the black dude and the main character take that wierd bath together..haha fuckin strange

Woah, seriously, Red Stinger??? I had always imagined there'd be a sequel to this game, possibly with a name like that. I predicted it would be Mars-based, as a reference to the title.
Great review guys! This is arguably my most favorite game on the Dreamcast.
I really do hope either Climax Graphics or someone makes a good solid sequel in the future, that won't leave the "See You Next Adventure" message at the end of the game hanging.
