The fucked up part, is that companies & some people exploit the people's gullibility that was shown here... i.e, "lets attack iraq!"... about 60% of people had no idea were that country was located, before 2001....
Do you think that someone who trying to get you to join their side is going to give facts that go AGAINST their intentions? They are telling you the truth, but it isn't the FULL truth; they choose what they want you to hear to make it sound appealing. It doesn't matter how they worded this, anyone else would have used the same deceit. This still proves that people will sign ANYTHING with a few well-placed words - and a touch of stupidity. Common sense is vital.
Unfortunately, this is deceitful. I thought it would be legitimate, like saying water vapour is a greenhouse gas. Sadly, it's not.
You don't need to much ask what dihydrogen-monoxide is when you list the symptoms like that. "Excessive urination and sweating".
My sixth grade teacher did the same thing. He mentioned that it was also addictive and fatal if withdrawn from. Pretty much everyone in the class wanted to petition against it. It's just a tactic of deceit, not a real test of consistency.
@nafaidni True, but this is what happens a lot in reality and proves how most environmentalists lack common sense or do little research on anything that they support or oppose. There are groups out there who will do anything to get supporters and donations and one of the best ways to do it is by exaggerating information to make it sound appealing. Next thing you know, the group's pockets are now being filled with donations made by those gullible enough to not read between the lines.
Okay, I kind of understand that SOME people might sign it just thinking "gosh, just shut up, I gotta go already!" but, damn, couldn't they have shown even ONE person who get the joke? I mean, hundreds of names just shows how ignorant and manipulative people really are.
People really should take their time and listen to the part 1:31 - 2:04
Penn and Teller are likely advocates of responsible action toward the possiblity of Anthropomorphic Global Climate Destabilization (Man-made Global Warming). But they don't jump off cliffsf and they DON'T follow the beat of "Gore-like" drummers.
Be concervative with our resources. Don't waste. Don't pollute. I think the bulk of humanity gets that now.
Too bad Gore invented the internet. Now we can too easily learn how to see through his rhetoric.
all im seeing is the same blind trend followers attacking this video, and the capitalist assholes with no concern for the enviroment praising it.
i'm an enviromentalist. i take serious steps every day to reduce my ecological footprint. i have campaigned for certain well researched causes i can explain my support for, and i have dismissed others i have seen as either less important or hardly a concern.
She starts by slurring the word "dihydrogen" so it sounds like "dihajadin," which would throw off anyone who might catch on. Falsehoods:
1. She says it is "found, NOW, in reservoirs and lakes," implying that it wasn't ALWAYS found in them.
2. Water does NOT cause excessive sweating.
3. Water does not "get into" fruit when you wash it (and "is not coming out"). It's easy to fool people when you are shamelessly untruthful. Hope Penn got a fat check from the pesticide companies for this.
ivyshoots.... she did not slur the word. as for 1, 2, and 3: all kinds of yuck fact propagandists do things like that all the time. that was the point. trendy enviromentalists are just one example.
You sound insecure and bitter, as I was not bragging about anything I've done. You're also making an awful lot of assumptions, particularly about how useful a psychology degree can be. It's applicable to many jobs that are not labeled 'psychologist,' and psychologist positions are few because they are competitive and specialized. Otherwise that degree is helpful for many professions. Take mental health police officers, for example.
You do realize that a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology requires Calculus and at least two sequences of physical/natural science at most universities, don't you?
These guys are cute and make a good point. But as a member of AA who's been sober for better than 11 years. These cute guys did a attack piece on AA. So please don't give these guys any credit. THEY WILL DO ANYTHING TO PROMOTE THEMSELVES. Yes it was fun to see liberals make fools of themself. But Pen and Teller SUCK!
Actually squid, the point of their show is that therapy will work for you if you are committed to wanting to change your own life. If you are forced into therapy under court order then the chances of it being useful to you are minimal.Especially when a Christain philosophy is forced on you. And they had statistic to back up their claim; AA's own internal memo only shows about a 5% success rate for people enrolled in their program. That's about the same if you did it on your own without a program
Cantonear1968, Well you are right, you only get something out of anything IF your WILLING to apply yourself. Being sober for 11 years AA IS working for me. Thanks for input. But Penn and Teller STILL SUCK!
But it didn't work for 95% of the other people who tried it. That is not a high success rate. Their organization has dogma that limits their ability to help people, and they are unwilling to change.
Their dogma works for you - that's awesome, but it means nothing to the vast majority of people who have a drinking problem. AA is flawed, and more groups must be promoted if we wish to control alcoholism with more proficiency.
Hm. Pen and Teller are on to something. And I thought they were against 9/11 truthers! New theory: dihydrogen monoxide brought down building 7 with the assistance of holographic planes. In the time it took to watch this video, our expert team of scientists and scholars found that the power of two holographic planes(representing the exact models flown in Airplane! and Topgun)and two bottles of dihydrogen monoxide that were uncovered at ground zero brought down building 7! Envy is a deadly sin, and it's obvious YOU envy our society and culture.
Well H2O is something every person should know if your above 12. At least i learned it at school when i was 12.
How stupid can you be :| And they are only asking people above the 20. So i geuss they should know that. But thats my opinion. But well. Australia aint French either. And Americans don't know that either. And they don't know where the middle east is. At least i'm talking about the mass not the few outsiders.
I cant argue that this video makes Americans look stupid, but you have to remember these are the leftwing liberal morons that are all about saving the planet but have no clue about ANYTHING and NEVER take the time too look up any factual data. These ppl truly make developmentally disabled ppl look like geniuses. I also agree with RockinRight on his comment, these are the democrats voting base...GEEZ!
i don't think these people are stupid at all. you can't expect everyone to be an expert of all disciplines. How should I know what dihydrogen monoxide is if i studied literature in college?
It doesn't matter if you know what dihydrogen monoxide is. Don't sign a petition if you know nothing about it. People like this sign/vote because it sounds good when it is not. They are stupid because they don't think about what they are doing they just do it. No brain usage=stupid
I could go to a young republican rally and do something similar and get the same reaction. Most of these ignoramus's are just following along. Just like any group of sheeple. This was a pretty clever way of making "hippies" look dumb though. "hippies" are still better than religious people. BTW-Fuck Penn&Teller.
Yeah? I challenge you to do that and videotape your results. I seriously doubt very many Republicans would sign anything like that without at least asking a question or two. Liberals are clueless. If they weren't, they wouldn't be liberals.
You apparently don't know what the word "liberal" means. It would be hard to get republicans to sign anything, you're right. I'd have to come up with something religious or bigoted though, maybe like "time to ban negroes" or "time to ban science" or "time to ban the constitution" and just word it in a way that would confuse them.
Oh, this might be fun. :-) Although arguing with a liberal is a bit like trying to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig - I'm willing to give it a try.
I'm fully aware that the word "liberal" can mean many things, and not all of them are bad. In the context I used, the word "liberals" identifies that group of people whose political ideology leans to the left. They support higher taxes, more government, abortion, gun laws, unions, and quotas, and oppose corporations, profits, strict interpretation of the Constitution, personal responsibility, and the use of the military to win wars.
This 500 word limit really isn't conducive to debate, is it?
I'm just learning that they're apparently opposed to banning negroes, science, and the Constitution. Since I also hold those views, it's refreshing to know we have some common ground.
So, enlighten me - what's your definition of "liberal"? How did I miss the mark?
Hippies don't bathe, so they would probably wouldn't mind a ban anyway. All those little microbes that are "killed" after entering the body, ya know. Gotta save the microbes.
How do you know they signed their real names? Many people just sign petitions to be polite, and don't put their real names or addresses. But if you need to feel smarter than total strangers, knock yourself out.
that's true, people do just sign to be police or get them out of your face, hell i signed up for world vision once to get the woman out of my face because i didn't want to tell her to F off.
Very funny way chemists can mess with people's minds. I will admit we enviromentalists have gulible people on our side, but I think pretty much every group has their fair share of less than intelligent people. Then again if I didn't know what dihydrogen monoxide was, and all I had was this woman's word, I would probably sign too. After all what harm could a signature have done? They probably would have been much more cautious if P&T were asking for money.
hahahaha, they wanted to ban H2O.... I remember hearing that joke when I was little. And I laughed at the "left" thing, I admit it. Even though it's everyone who does it. not everyone uses their brains all the time.
Haha, that's awesome. But they didn't really address the flaw in the test. People assume that others want to ban BAD stuff. With such scientific lingo, people assumed it wrong and had no motive to know exactly what it was.
You nailed it. Stupidity like shown on this video isn't necessarily a characteristic of the left, it is a characteristic of humans in general. Don't be gullible; ask critical questions. That goes for everyone.
Good point here. Girl with clipboard spouts environmental hyperbole. People sign on. Shows how mindless we've become.
Penn & Teller, on the other hand dispute the hard science which completely debunks the government's claim that carbon fires made 3 buildings collapse & disintegrate on 9-11.
Looks like P & T are willing to attack only a small portion of the disinfo.
Yes, I read the whole thread, all 5 prior to my post. From your comment, "Like many environmentalist and liberals" (your exact words), it is clear that you think this only a "leftist" problem. I merely pointed out that it affects all political/social/economic groups (i.e. everyone) Please tell me you know the difference between "libertarian" and "liberal"
You know what they say when you assume? It makes an ASS out of U and ME. Is "good faith" supposed to replace common sense? One lady signed the petition fervently and with arrogance. Like many environmentalist and liberals, often, it is not about the grass roots cause or platform-it is about being a joiner; this showcased that brilliantly.
For better or worse, it aint just lefties that do this..
Supply side economics anyone? WMD in Iraq? "think if the children"? this midless "follower-ism" is deadly and it happens in ALL political/social/economic groups. It's a human flaw, not an idealogical flaw.
This isn't as expose on environmentalists, its an expose on extreme rightwing propagatainment. People at this gathering were assuming others, like themselves, were there in good faith, not to intenationally mislead people so a couple of hoaky "magic" sideshow clowns could make some fast tv pesos. Its like watching Jimmy Falwell pull a fast-talking scam on well meaning people, then gloat about it. Bizarre. Pointless.
That is the POINT of this. Political organizations only want you to know their side of the story so you get hyped up enough to sign any petition they wave in your face.
No surprise that you're canadian. You're talk of good faith doesn't quite mask the fact that these people were eager to jump on any bandwagon available here at this rally.
... only in america :P

Even though it's everyone who does it. not everyone uses their brains all the time.

this is amusing and sad cause they should at least ask questions.
RepConsnow4ever 4 years ago
Haha, that's awesome. But they didn't really address the flaw in the test. People assume that others want to ban BAD stuff. With such scientific lingo, people assumed it wrong and had no motive to know exactly what it was.

You nailed it. Stupidity like shown on this video isn't necessarily a characteristic of the left, it is a characteristic of humans in general. Don't be gullible; ask critical questions. That goes for everyone.

MY BEEF WITH PENN & TELLER:
Good point here. Girl with clipboard spouts environmental hyperbole. People sign on. Shows how mindless we've become.
Penn & Teller, on the other hand dispute the hard science which completely debunks the government's claim that carbon fires made 3 buildings collapse & disintegrate on 9-11.
Looks like P & T are willing to attack only a small portion of the disinfo.

Please tell me that you understand the concept of "often"? Don't try and spin this; my comment was concise and RELATIVE to the topic PRESENTED.
Apparently innuendo is not your strong suit. I was referring to you as a libertarian.

Hey 'slikr': can you FOLLOW a comment thread?
I ASS-U-ME you read the entire thread before you made your libertarian post.
JALSKYTIME 4 years ago
Yes, I read the whole thread, all 5 prior to my post. From your comment, "Like many environmentalist and liberals" (your exact words), it is clear that you think this only a "leftist" problem. I merely pointed out that it affects all political/social/economic groups (i.e. everyone) Please tell me you know the difference between "libertarian" and "liberal"
slikrx 4 years ago
You know what they say when you assume? It makes an ASS out of U and ME. Is "good faith" supposed to replace common sense? One lady signed the petition fervently and with arrogance. Like many environmentalist and liberals, often, it is not about the grass roots cause or platform-it is about being a joiner; this showcased that brilliantly.
JALSKYTIME 4 years ago
For better or worse, it aint just lefties that do this..
Supply side economics anyone? WMD in Iraq? "think if the children"? this midless "follower-ism" is deadly and it happens in ALL political/social/economic groups. It's a human flaw, not an idealogical flaw.
So, I guess you ASS-U-ME-d it was only "lefites'.

Haha oh man can you say "Baaaaaaaaaaa!"?

Sheep say "Maa" not "Baa!"
Penn and Teller, may be offensive to some, but I still enjoy watching.

Bizarre. Pointless.

No one was mislead. Everything she said was true. Would you sign a petition to ban something if you didn't know what that something was?
ProudConservativecom 4 years ago
the problem is she only told half the story. She didn't mention the BENEFITS of dihydrogen monoxide, only the dangers.
donkeypoodle 4 years ago
Funny, it is like the media.
hellotommy 4 years ago 4
That is the POINT of this. Political organizations only want you to know their side of the story so you get hyped up enough to sign any petition they wave in your face.

"No one was mislead. Everything she said was true."
As I just posted:
1. She says it is "found, NOW, in reservoirs and lakes," implying that it wasn't ALWAYS found in them.
2. Water does NOT cause excessive sweating.
3. Water does not "get into" fruit when you wash it (and "is not coming out").

No surprise that you're canadian. You're talk of good faith doesn't quite mask the fact that these people were eager to jump on any bandwagon available here at this rally.

You're making our country look bad.

Speaking of good faith, you clearly don't have much good faith for people whose political views you disagree with. Hypocrite.
