I think whether your religious or not the message is still the same. She built up hate and prayer helped her to forgive and therefore heal her hatred. If you don't need religion to do that, fantastic, if you do, then go to religion. Remember; most religious teachings are very good, its just that some people corrupt them teachings for evil purposes. I'm not religious, but the teachings of love and forgiveness are very important.

I dont know if you remember Kim but many years ago you came to Canada and spoke at a church in St. Catharines near niagara falls called Bethany Community Church, By Jesus Christ alone and by Gods grace he healed your broken heart. It wasnt the burns he only healed you of, and that caused bitterness for you against your enemies. God filled his heart for you with Love. Go in the grace of Jesus Christ and continue and pray that God will enpower you to be bold and full of love.
