The only way Vice works is when it ignores all the bad new format issues. It's supposed to be filmed properly with a trademark score, and the main characters should ignore/poke fun at any bad fashion. They're supposed to expose and bust frauds, not promoting them.
The movie could be - Someone has set up a drug network smuggling Afghan heroin to the US - The US discovers that a rogue former military contractor has teamed with the Taliban to do it - The former "Vice" guys come back to chase down Captain Real Estate - G Gordon Liddy himself. :)
I was there from day one of the Miami Vice remake. I knew it wasn't going going to succeed, they got the wrong actors, wrong music, and an okay script. Too bad it was shot mainly at night, that was my main complaint about the film, not like the original. They even went over budget on this film.
Music just kills this brilliant trailer! Some rap shit, this is a sacrilege! Vice was brilliant because of it's style, music and actors skills and good storyline. This could be it, without that music.
I mean if it was set in the 80's it would look weirder trying to imitate a philip michael thomas or Don Johnson or any of them. So i see why they didnt. everything clicks with the imitation of the characters and stuff present day more
all of the scripts were taken from the 3rd season, which I think is the best one of the whole series!!! the music reminds MV 2006, which I think sucks and represents an offence to MIAMI VICE and shouldn't have that title..
Fantastic concept and editing. In my opinion, the original music and dialogue, in the exact places you've chosen, would've been the perfect choice. The TV show would've made an excellent film. The movie was an abortion as are virtually all remakes. Regardless of my preference as an audience member, I applaud your effort. It's always the option of the artist who takes the time and effort to create who rightfully gets the last vote.
Rap/Hip Hop was around, but it stayed true to its art form. Lyrical art in self expression, poetry and politics. Bad Hip Pop was overshadowed by better music. It regards a tuneless and shallow cocktail; a scam product.
Thing is that frauds payola these scams on air now. Business deals, not music. A 50% sales decline from 2000 to 2010 is the result. Data swindle and media manipulation create an optical illusion while aiming for a hype market. It's fraud and corruption by incompetence and greed.
Awesome work dude, I think the use of the music was fine, maybe the die hard 80s fans hated it but i loved the way you mixed it all in... :) Awesome..
Nice job on the trailer, but did you have to use music of 2006 over it? It just didn't feel right, since you were trying for us Vice fans to imagine a 1986 trailer movie pro,o of Miami Vice. It had to have the 18s music, especailaay the dark ones ("in the air tonight" -- hello?).
You could have made the movie better than them. This is so sick and I only saw the botched new version which really wasn't that good of a movie. But this, makes me want to go watch the original show. Nice cutting
This is how it should of been done, i havent watched vice in months now because i'm watching the magnum p.i collection at the moment which doesnt compare to miami vice but its still good.
Watching this clip has made me want to watch season 3 all over again.
Miami Vice is the only series I ever watched on TV that wasn't on the History Channel or TLC. Miami Vice with Sonny & Tubbs is easily better than 98% of the high-budget, cookie-cutter movies made by Hollywood.
and man, how you catched the original spirit of the 2006 trailer and translated it back into '84Vice! I am really amazed, and that does not happen often!
and i agree with derek, even though original cast would have posed some severe problems.. but this really could have been such a big tribute!
not saying it is shit the way it is..but it just ain't genuine miami vice to me..near miss!
Universal missed a golden opportunity to launch a Miami Vice movie franchise with the original cast. Their chemistry, combined with a top-notch budget, and no network censors to flag anything they deem inappropriate...and you've got one of the biggest movie franchises of the 1980s. It would have been huge.
To make a MIAMI VICE movie Michael Mann simply should have taken the PRODIGAL SON script, shot it in Mami rather than New York, set it in the eighties and there you go. The perfect MIAMI VICE movie.
We can always go back to the TV show for the '80s glam. I'm glad the movie was different in tone, look and mood. The Miami of today is different, as is the drug trade. It's gone more global. At first, before the movie came out, I thought they should have paid homage to the 80s show by remaking it, but I'm glad the movie's more dark and moody.
I know it is different now a days and I'm glad you liked the movie...but in my opinion if they recover the "miami vice" concept and keep the names and so they should have gone 80's...I respect your vision as I understand what you mean but why keep then all that from the 80's show?
I initially thought the same thing. I wanted a movie that recaptured the 80s, with a knowing wink, and perhaps even a bit of self parody -- done in a smart way, of course. And that movie could still be made, but I ended up liking the movie a lot. No, it's not perfect, the script could have used some polish, and it wasn't an untroubled set, but we all still have the 80s TV show to watch when we want to get our Miami Vice kick. I don't know if a "remake" of the show would be an improvement.
this clip was good until you put that fucking rap shit in there. thumbs down

I like the 2006 film but it had a serious lack of pet alligators! (Not sure if there were any white Ferraris in the film...) ;-)

Good working streaming the clips together, but Jay-Z wasn't even 20 in 1986... And Linkin Park would still be in secondary education...
