I have seen the same thing on riding mowers. They better leave my 1970 Briggs Max Noiz alone, or it will be WAR!!!!
They luv to eat car seats also, so always put 8 or 10 mouse traps in a parked car, some in the trunk, passengers floor, AND on the engine. We killed one on top of the engine!
Was wandering why my snow blower wasn't going as fast as it should when i was walking behind it, so i took off the skid plate to check the chain's well load and behold if there wasn't a hudge nest in there, needless to say the chipmunk didn't win run's great now.
I found a dead snake in my yard mower. It was lodged up near the air intake. I had to rebuild the carb and found it during the dis-assembly. All the was left were the skeleton.
When I was a kid back in Minnesota, I stored my dirt bike in the shed over winter. Come spring it was very hard to start, had no power, and sounded weird. I finally discovered the exhaust had been filled with acorns by some squirrels. I took the muffler off and my dad saw me shaking out the oily soot cover acorns and said "so there really are muffler bearings" I guess that was a joke when he was a kid. It ran perfect when I got them all out.
@donyboy73 Yeah I figured that would be the easiest and most cost effective way to repair it. I love seeing several videos posted up this week! Keep it up!!
I've seen a mouse go about in a house (captured it) and it went places I never expected it to fit in, like a fairly normal sized mouse going in a 1-2 inch hole, crazy.
Hi Donyboy - I have found entire rodent nests, complete with dead rodent under seats in cars, in air cleaner boxes, on top of engine skid plates - all over the place! I guess it just goes to show - a quick look at your engine every now and again never hurts.
I was wondering if you do any work on snowmobiles? I haven't seen you work on any yet, but was hoping you might do one on synchronizing multiple carb engines!
@donyboy73 Funny thing is i've gotten like 12 snowblowers that were "seized" or "scored", and end up popping off the recoil cover and finding a mouse nest that caused the engine not to spin normally....
mice can craw througt a beerbottle hole so a 1cm hole is no deal for them..

I'm sure you've seen the bottom vent holes in the air filter housing of a Briggs opposed twin. I've seen a mouse go through there.

Could you wrap the coil wire in electrical tape or will you have to replace the whole coil?
wmgatorfan08 1 month ago

How will you repair the spark plug wire, I'm assuming it's not replaceable without replacing the coil, is that correct?
