  • Peace, I purchased the lexicon omega after seeing your video. I have the mpc 2500. I have it synched an working with reason but there are no midi notes in reasons sequencer. The sounds are playing but no notes. How can I record the drums and samples from the mpc, with the synths from reason into logic with the lexicon? do you recommend a differend daw?

  • actually I figured it out.....I have one out and one in go into the in and out of my mbox 2.....but when i play the sounds from reason they aren't in sequence like a keyboard.....ex. c c# d d# e f f# g g#.....any help? much appreciated.....bet

  • @seattlednb yeah, that's a problem I had also. What mpc do u have? What I had to do is press mode->MIDI/sync. Then press notes. I then had to assign each pad (yeah all 64) a MIDI note starting at not 35. Did that for all 4 banks. And I didn't have a problem after that.

  • how are your midi cables set up? i know you have a midi cable going out from your keyboard....into the midi in of the mpc? and then do you have a midi cable running from your mbox (sound module) outs to the mpc's midi in's? midi confuses me.....haha your tutorial is super helpful i just need help with my connections....

  • after u mAKE UR BEAT HOW DO U SAVE IT

  • @donniebangout if i don't track it right away into pro tools, i would save the project on the mpc with the same file name as i save the file in reason. that way, when i want to continue working on it, i will pull up (beat A) in reason and load (beat A) on the mpc.

  • i can get the midi in put when i play it back from my mpc 2500 i dont hear anything can you please help me

  • @DJBlueDevil1988 that's because MIDI is not audio. You have to have the outputs of ur movie and the outputs from ur computer going to the same speakers.

  • I own a MPC 4000, This is a longer way of doing it. I just lock Reason to external and it follows my MPC's MTC, and yes use reason as a soundmodule. dong that for 4 years now.

  • Hey peeps i got my mpc working with reason but i have a question.when i hit the mpc pads the sounds are not in order. For example if i have tractor bass guitar with midi input to mpc it gives me diffrent notes.notes arent in order like a keyboard.if their is a setting i need to make please let me know cause im so fustrated trying to figure this thing out. Thanks in advance

  • @AlexPittEdu

bro that sucks that you have a 003 rack.

because theres no way you can get past the glitch with reason on it,

you only going to hear output audio thru

    your computer speakers, its stupid,

i had the 003 , and returned it after i found out i couldnt use it with my studio monitors.

i got a fast track pro, and a mackie 16 channel mixer aftet that. ahah

  • in order to do this instead of an audio interface can i do it with a midi interface?

  • CAN I DO THE SAME CONNECTION WITH FRUITYLOOPS

  • Cheers boss, great upload. Peace from Ireland.

  • is there a way to do this without an interface?

is it possible with a setup like this:

Oxygen 8 keyboard Midi Out ---> MPC Midi In

Oxygen 8 usb cord ---> usb port on computer

do I need to have any other midi cables running into or out of the mpc?

do you have to do anything with the midi sync option on the mpc?

  • @mufongo did you get a answer to your question cause i am dealing with the same problem do you have to have a midi interface

  • @brysonj5 :

yea theres no way to do it without some type of interface..you can get an audio interface that you connect to the computer..some midi controllers already have em built in..and theres some mixers that also have em built in..so for that you would connect everything to the mixer then from the mixer it goes into the computer.

  • @mufongo

so with the oxygen 8 u need an interface ? its the same keyboard i have and im having the same problem .it doesnt have it built in correct >?

  • @MrJohhnyblaze :

if you are using ONLY the oxygen 8, you dont need an interface..that can connect straight to your computer using a usb cable. just connect the cable from the usb port on the oxygen 8 to a usb port on your computer..make sure to always use the same port when connecting it to your computer..open reason's preferences..select the older model of the oxygen 8 from the devices it lists for you. hit me up if you need a more detailed explanation.

  • after you record midi sound into mpc and close reasons you lose the midi instrement when? how do you keep the midi instrument? or how do you convert the midi to audio

  • nevermind

  • how r u getting sound into the mpc? i can't get mine to records keys from reasons

  • hey i'm working with an axiom 25 and my MPC and i'm stuck. i followed every step perfectly, and i have no luck. can you help?

  • Please can you explain in more details the midi and audio connections...

I want to play my drum sound into the mpc (audio) and play others instruments with reason(midi).all sequenced into the mpc

    thanks

    (xcuse my english,,,i'm french,,,)

  • hey how would you save the midi sounds then on the mpc ..to be specific the 2000xl . thanks.

  • I appreciate this, sir...'cause I was stuck in a tar pit !!! I just started movin' beyond the MPC and a hardware module...

  • @psyrkle thanks

  • it sucks I have the 003 factory and i can't do this type of shit. pro tools has to be on and I have to record arm my tracks... a bunch of nonsense. I wish I never went down the pro tools road. plus pro tools doesn't sync properly with the mpc and there is always a pause and I can't loop record the mpc with pt cause it disconnects the record button at the end of the loop. fuckin pro tools.

  • @AlexPittEdu thats not true. i can loop record the mpc. i use pro tools

  • I have a mpc 2500.

USB cable from keyboard to computer, MIDI IN MPC to MIDI OUT KEYBOARD.

In preferences the mpc & keyboard are added.

Problem: NO SOUND OF THE KEYBOARD IN THE MPC.

    Can you help me?

  • @123Bastardo can you explain in more details your setup

  • Reason 4 recognize the midi interface 2 x 2, midi keyboard and a MPC 2500. Keyboard and MPC play the same sound on the same channel, right? Problem is i cannot hear any internal sounds from the MPC. Only when connecting a headphone or speakers into the stereo out of the MPC, then i hear the internal sounds (such as chopped sample) of the MPC. But then i hear no sound from Reason 4.

    * Do i need a mixer or something?

    * Can i still use Reason 4 as the sequencer?

  • so when your done with your beat how are you dumping it down..

  • @StrosB4Hos i track into pt

  • Now thats golden!

  • @stronga1999 good lookin.

  • did you need the oxygen 8 to make the mpc work w/ reason? or can you just hook the mpc to reason by itself? pls help.

  • @micperk i didn't need the oxygen to make it work. you can do the connections according to the vid but just don't do the keyboard part.

  • Good video

  • @outthebody thanks

  • Whats good,

I have a MPC2500 and reason on my mac what do i need so that I can use the sounds on reason from mpc? And should I record in software or hardware? thanks

  • @Lifted680 i have been using a mac ever since that vid and everything works fine. the 2500 works exactly the same way as the 1000. just follow the steps in this vid

  • Great video, I found the solution for my Axiom and Mpd 32 connection problem. Good stuff.

  • i have the mpc and reason synced up but the sound comes out of reson instead of the mpc.

  • it would because midi does not transmit audio.

  • Is there also a way to use the mpc1000 transport control to enable record INSIDE reason instead of inside the mpc itself?

  • Hey Thank you very much ive been trying to figure this out for awhile thanks alot man great video

  • thanks for this, my housemate (of 18 months) has been trying and failing to set up his MPC as a controller, I watched this video (and even though I've NEVER used an MPC in my life) about 20 minutes later, had it working :)

Thanks dude, my housemate now wants to sleep with me..... if only he was female eh? ;)

  • im tryin this but my MIDI controller doesnt have a USB to control reason..

When i hit the keyboard it triggers the sounds inside the MPC not the sounds in reason

Message me if you could id really appreciate the help

  • ok ive never used reason before so im not a genius on this, but heres my question. Why not just use a midi pad controller with reasons sequencer? whats the difference? it would save somebody hundreds of dollars

  • Because hardware is better than software. imo.

  • When you say hardware do you mean the MPC or computer? Because a computer has hardware and software. A MPC ALSO has both hardware and software(an OS). It's not like a MPC has some magical gnomes in it lol. Its juts a computer running a OS with controller knobs and pads.

  • Mpc is hardware, just like a korg or a roland keyboard is hardware. Yes they have OS's in them and operate on software. But.... the sound being produced is generated by hardward. Like sound module cards ects.

  • So what is generating the sound on a computer? I thought it was hardware too.

  • It's a LOT less user friendly. Has no feeling to it. It's like comparing video games to computer games.

  • okey im need help jus bought this audio interface lexicon omega everything is ok for now but when i tried to record vocals via cubase sx 3 i cant hear anything (example i want to record vocals with say instrumental but i dnt want to hear the beat through the speakers but i want to hear the instrumental with the headphones but i cant hear anything

  • question, can you use reasons mixer with the mpc?

  • I am lost. I have a SP1200, Fantom X8 and MPC 60/3000. I can use my Fantom and SP1200 in reason right now with no problem. For some strange reason I cannot get my MPC to trigger any sounds in reason... Can someone provide some assistance. I am using a Digi 002 board and a Midi port Uno usb to midi adapter. How can I make this work. I want to use all three external devices as triggers for reason sounds... I've read every forum, video.. Its simply not working... Help a brethren out.. Thanks

  • how do you use reason with the fantom x6???thats what im tryna figure out. i have a usb midi cord but cant get it workin. appreciate it!!!!!

  • I do it and it works well! chek out my vids.. the only thing I dont quite get is HOW THE HELL can I record the sounds from reason other than checking ''what you hear'' in the sound card preferences, witch is kindo a cheap way to do it..

  • get DAW or a digital recorder that you can route all your audio to. If you have a DAW, you can rewire reason

  • I did everything correct and I am triggering notes from reason with my pads but im not getting any of my drum samples from my mpc. Its on Drum1 which has all my drums loaded but all im getting is reason sounds when trying to trigger my drums. whats goin on? hellllppp!

  • Comment removed

  • the mpc is only as good as the sound you put into it. having said that, reason is only being used as a sound module such as a planet phatt, motif rack, triton rack, etc. no where in this video am I suggesting what is better than the other.

  • Comment removed

  • ok, i think you are not understanding what an mpc is for. yes it has instant 16 bits for audio that you put into it. but unless you sample EVERYTHING into the mpc, (which most everyone does not) you will still need other sounds. some people use a motif, triton, fantom, etc. to do this. instead of those, i use reason. it accomplishes the same thing. in this vid, i did not use reason's sequencer, i used the mpc sequencer. just used the sounds from reason.

  • i know its a great combination, personal i love the cubase sequencer,i like reason fl ableton etcetc but to me those sequencers suckk, thats why i do same thin g as you!i got a triton next to my mpc but do own the motiff and fantom refills, they not complete simular to the hardware(sounds jes)but the characteristics is way less warm but with tweaking you can get simular style sounds,i just dont like watching a pc monitor that longso i twea on tritoon and if i do software tweaking its on cubase

  • ok. we cool

  • haaha yeah man,im not hating on anyones recipe!!eey chef got his own recipe!;)

  • Comment removed

  • musicallday8: 2 ans ur ??? theres 2 issues 1)U cant "record" n2 reason (not realtime neway). U'd need in addition, another DAW or sequencer like cubase or ableton. Then u'd rewire reason to 1 channel in the DAW and record realtime to another channel. But the other issue 2) since midi doesnt send actual sounds just trigger events u cant send the sample sounds from the mpc out. u'd have to record n2 the mpc from reason or use it kinda like a controller n load ur samples into reason. hope it helps

  • boy dat beat sucks

  • Basically the question im trying to ask you sparq1 is I have reason 3.0 and I have a regular midi keyboard lets say im makeing a beat in reason 3.0 with my midi keyboard and i want to add a sound to the recording in reason 3.0 I have the mpc 2500 can i add sounds from the mpc 2500 to reason 3.0 while recording or it's impossible to do that?

  • alright sparq1g you said that doing it this way, sound from reason will NEVER record into the mpc. the only thing that gets recorded into the mpc is the midi data. midi does not transmit sound. if you want to hear the mpc and reason together, you would have to have the mpc and reason going to the same set of speakers. So are you saying that there is no way to record in reason 3.0 while haveing the mpc add sounds to the recording in reason 3.0?

  • Yo S. If I'm using headphones to mix, do I need a mixer to hear the reason sounds if my headphones are plugged into MPC2500?

  • HEY

  • What line is the audio from reason getting into the MPC????

  • Check out the Prop forum as all is explained.

  • prop forum??? do you mean the propellerhead forum????

  • lol why wouldn't you include the set up of the lexicon in this video you will confuse some people like that

  • because this video is just with reason and the mpc. the lexicon is in here only as a midi interface.

  • ok so what is the point of having the m audio uno hooked into the midi out and ins if it is already in the computer with the lexicon. Wouldn't that make it two different outputs

  • yes, the maudio uno and the lexicon makes me have 2 midi interfaces. the point of having 2 is because when using reason, it uses one interface and when i use (in this setup) nuendo i have a second midi interface.

  • great video! i did one just like it for the MV-8000, but yours is much clearer. thanks!

  • anytime. glad it helps

  • First of all i want to thank you for this video. One question though, I use a MPC 2Kxl with the 8 outs, and the whole reason/mpc thing works great, but how would i record the sounds off REASON into my DAW (logic). I used buses but it seemed to be delayed, just wanted to know if you knew an easier way. Thanks

  • you would get the sounds off of reason into your DAW (logic) by using rewire.

  • AWESOME DEMO!!! thanks alot bro!!

  • anytime

  • Alright.. So I got a similar setup, except I'm trying to use FL studio instead or Reason. My midi keyboard only has a midi out and usb going to the computer. You said you also have a midi cable coming out of the MPC..where does that go to?

  • your interface set both of them into your interface i believe or just set the midi out into the midi in of your mpc and the midi out of the mpc into the midi in of your interface

  • the usb midi out goes to the computer to control the computer and the midi out cable goes from the keyboard to the mpc to control the mpc

  • yo man i listen to my mpc through headphones and i listen to my laptop through the built in speaker and when i record mpc beats into reason i hear no sound,do you need speakers for it to work man, thanks in advance

  • you would have to have them going to the same output speakers in order to hear both of them at the same time.

  • You cant playback the sounds you record off reason on the mpc without having reason being open and setting it up just like u had it before.

  • that's correct. as far as worrying about setting up reason as you had it before, i just save the reason file with the same name as i save the mpc file.

  • Can the mpc quantize sounds from Reason ?? Because that would be too awesome

  • if you have it setup the way that I do, then the answer to your question is yes. because the mpc is used as the master.

  • wasup man, I jus got an mpc 1k and I got 2 questions: 1.can you do this with fl studio and 2.can you play back the recorded sounds later without having reason connected? I am guessing not because midi dont carry audio??

I don't have a midi interface so what i do is play keys pattern on fl export the wav to the mpc and chop it into 16 parts, does the trick but its a pain in the ass. hope you can answer me, I'm looking at gettin an interface. peace

  • (check the 1st message below b4 this one)

so how do i connect the in from the kb to the mpc? is that what i should do? i aint got a clue about this midi crap! help me sparks!!

ps! i produced country cousins on talibs album. i just used a mpc and a proteus... I'm trying to learn how to use reason cause my freaking zip drives keep dying on me!! HELP!!

  • u have the key board hooked up to ya pc thru midi to usb right?? is itfrom the kb's midi in or out caus u say u have a midi out going to the mpc. u wrote "I have a midi out from the mpc (black cable) going to the midi in on the uno and midi out from the uno (black cable) going to a midi in on the mpc." im confused caus i got a uno a mpc, pc with reason and a kb, if i conect from the midi out on the kb with my uno to the usb in on the pc, then theres only a in left on the back of my kb...

  • I have one MIDI interface, not two like you have (Fast Track Pro by M-Audio) and 3 MIDI cables. Is this still possible?

  • tight but i gotta question. i dont fully understand how u hooked it up. da midi out is going into to mpcs MIDI in?..das how u control the sounds on da wit the keyboard on da mp right?

  • look over to the top right and click on the link that says "more info" i break down exactly what i have connected to what.

  • all riight das tight but y do u need to connect to the uno m-audio interface?

  • OK i have a question. How do I hook up the midi part where I can trigger reason with the mpc and my keyboard. Then where I can still trigger reason with my keyboard when my mpc is off.I dont have usb on my keyboard only midi.

  • what midi meyboard do you have?

  • i can tplay the keys and record on my mpc but i can play the sounds from reason on the pads? how do i play the keys on my midi on my reson

  • i have an mpc 2000xl reasons 3.0.with lexicon interface 2 channel. how would you midi them up

  • you would do it the same way that I did in the vid. the only difference between the omega and the lamda is the omega you can record 4 inputs at once and the lamda you can record 2 inputs at once. everything else is the same and for just using the lexicon, reason and the 2kxl you would follow my video exactly.

  • ah i see...

thanks for the feedback!!! much appreciated...

    bless

  • nice video... very helpful!

i noticed u got ur gian on ur mpc right down, how is the audio from the mpc still audible???

  • i was using the digital out on the back of the mpc going to the digital in of my omega so i could use all 4 of the inputs of the omega and still be able to hear the remainder of my tracks from the mpc

  • is there any way that i can trigger sounds within reasons with out the digtal out put on my mp?

  • i just used the digital outs so i can hear the master outputs. you can do all of this without using the digital outputs.

  • This is in a sense the same as using a planet phat sound module. also it would be better this way because if you sample reason sounds, then you would have to sample at different octaves unless you have the JJ os where a sound can be set to auto chromatic. it does not interupt your creative flow. there are many benefits of doing it this way.

  • what exsactly does this enable you to do that is different than just sampling reason. in laymens terms.

  • what exactly does this enable you to do that is different than just sampling from reason

  • ????? When your done with your track how can you save it all to one source??? (when you close reason you cant hear the sounds anymore!!!) I've watch the vid about tracking to DAW but i cant do that with reason!!!????? Thanks for the Posts very helpful.

  • what i do is, if i'm not finished working on a track, I will save 2 files with the same file name. I save "entire memory" in the mpc with the file name (example - new beat) and then save a reason file (example - mpc new beat). that way, when I work on that track again, in reason, i just open up "mpc new beat" and load up the "new beat" file on the mpc. Everything opens up as i last had it.

  • sup Sparqs!

I bought an interface called midi link. I used this as insructed with an MV 8000. The problem I have is that wnen I record the first instrument i hear it ok but as soon I as I select another device both instruments play at the same time. I noticed this beccause whenever i play my keyboard the hardware device only light up on the first channel. if i tab to the back of the rack and nanually connect the device to 3 4 5 etc. i hear nothing. Do you know what the issue is here?

  • are you sure you are changing the midi channel on the mv when you select a different channel in reason?

  • absolutely! All the mv channels are playing the same sounds. I have a strange feeling the problem was with the midi interface. It had the same name as my keyboad driver. infact it appears to have damaged my midi keyboard. The damn the is completely gone blank.

  • can I use reason as a multi timbral sound module being controlled by the Akai MPC1000?, and if so can you tell me how to do it.

  • fam, that's what this video is for... to show you how to use reason as a sound module. you can have up to 32 different channels coming from reason controlled by the mpc

  • WILL THE MPC QUANTISE THE MIDI DATA

  • yes

  • in video i see you cselect in preferences LEXICON USB MIDI. Also you sayin you conenct midi in and out with M audio UNO.

If i dont have LEXICON, can i just conenct MPC to PC as midi device with UNO?

    thank you

  • The short version.... yes, you can connect the mpc to the UNO. but I also saw your message to me. I responded. check it out and get back to me.

  • shows how to set it up with fl studio.

  • To clear up some things regarding connections, click on the "more" link under the "about this video" section.

  • great vid sparq whens the next vid droppin

i got a korg r3, can i use that as a replacement for the oxygen keyboard or no?

  • you can use any keyboard that has a midi out and a usb connection to the computer or anyboard that has midi in's and midi out's

  • I have reason hooked up to my mpc through my controller and an interface. And I have it so the mpc triggers reason..but..The sounds don't actually record into the mpc and you can't hear them through the mpc. but you can hear them out of my computer. Can I set it up so the sounds actually play out of the mpc?

  • you have everything set up the right way. and doing it this way, sound from reason will NEVER record into the mpc. the only thing that gets recorded into the mpc is the midi data. midi does not transmit sound. if you want to hear the mpc and reason together, you would have to have the mpc and reason going to the same set of speakers.

  • Damn..What if I amped my computer sound then plugged that directly in to the mpc? I wouldn't be able to trigger but that would at least record the sound right?

  • listen people. you DO NOT HAVE TO USE THE JJ OS TO GET THIS TO WORK. you can use the standard akai os for this. it's not that hard

  • Comment removed

  • I too have the Emu-49 key, but I'm also running the JJ OS. I can't get ti to work either. Let me know if you figure it out or find the answer, & I'll do the same.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks! I think I need a midi to usb interface in order to k=make this work. I'm all over it!!

  • Hey i got the same setup...using an MBOX 2 MPC 2000 and an Oxygen v2....but when i try to record from the oxygen....the MP must not be recieving the MIDI or somethin....Is their a special driver or somethin to download or somethin....Im usin a Dell laptop...U have the exact setup i want man....u must have a midisport box or somethin else hooked up...If u would post a more in depth video of the setup i would gladly appreciate it man......thanks

  • a more detailed video is coming soon. it will cilearly explain what midi cables i have going to the computer and to the keyboard. I see alot of you are having some issues with this.

  • yo i can use ma digidesign mbox 2 with audacity nd how woudl i set it up i got mpc 500 for now

  • witch JJ-OS do we need for this ?? Is the free one allright or we need the 30$ one ?

    thanks

  • you don't NEED the JJ-OS for this. you can do this using the original akai os

  • sorry homie your beat sounds terrible

but ya setup helped me out alot

so thnx for that and keep workin on your muzik

    peace

  • just to let you know. the music on here is not showcase my talent for production, it is merelely to show how to use reason with the mpc.

  • thanks man! And yeah I got that... i know you bang hard!

  • I got it working now thanks to the Reason Tutorial in the JJ OS manual starting on page 36. It fills in all the gaps this video has. It explains everything in detail, including all midi connections and mpc1000 settings.

  • I've found Reason 3.0 to only accept midi from one source at a time. I can not get it to respond to BOTH, my mpc1000 and my keyboard at the same time.

I set Reason midi INPUT to the midi port the mpc is connected to. At that point, Reason responds to mpc, but not keyboard.

Then I change Reason midi input to USB... then Reason responds to keyboard. For me, it's either one or the other... not BOTH.

  • I have my in of my keyboard going into the MP and vice versa I see the note hit on the MP but I hear nothing I do hear reason sound when I play the keyboard though what am i doing wrong

  • it has to be your out into the mpc

  • nice vid ! where is de midi data stored on you're mpc and reason?..or..

  • when i'm working on a file when using reason and the mpc, i have 2 files saved. 1 on the mpc and 1 in reason. I name them the same name so I can easily tell which files i'm working on when i come back to it. doing it that way, when i work on them again, i just pull up both files and it's back to where i left off.

  • Yo man I got the same setup!!.. but i dont quite understand what you saying at the beggening about the cables.. you say midi out of the mpc TO the oxygen midi in, usb out from oxygen to pc ?? is that it ?

  • brilliant stuff man. In that setup you are using the mpc as a sequencer not reason correct? And you got your midi B channels of your mpc connected to your oxygen controller right?

  • correct

  • Great video series btw!

question, can you use reason filters thru the mpc

    w/midi?

    Thanks in advance

  • yes but only through the instruments from reason. you can't use the effects/filters alone as an esternal effects processor for the mpc

  • i was wondering if this was possible with other versions of the MPC, and exactly everything you needed to do this.

  • yes, you can do this with all flavors of the MPC line. just take what i said about the midi portion and apply it to the midi of the mpc you are using.
