Maybe it's because you live in a humid climate? I live in a humid climate and when ever I get BIG curls or perfectly straight hair it starts going back to normal after a short period of time.

Two questions. I'm a guy and my hair is almost shoulder length in the back but not as long as yours. I can't see the back when I straighten so I just have to straighten it and look at it with a handheld mirror every so often. Any tips there? Also, my hair, while straightened, feels frizzy and puffy if I don't put any hair pomade in it. Any tips there? Finally, most of the hair pomades/clays/gels I have contain water, so is that defeating the purpose of straightening if I use those?

Well, I would suggest the highest setting if your hair is healthy, and ALWAYS use a heat protectant before heat styling to help protect your hair.
