I loved woolies also, Our government could have bailed them out, but would rather throw our money into other countries rather than help thier own people and companies!!
TAKEN FROM WIKIPEDIA: According to press reports on 17 February 2009, the plan by Tony Page to re-open a chain of shops adopting the Woolworths business model but under a different name, are due to go ahead with an initial 50 shops planned. - ANY MORE INFO ANYONE??
Very sad, shame the government couldn't have put some money into them instead of giving it to all the banks. Great video though, your sentiments and choice of music are spot on. 5*
I used to work for Woolworths, got made redundant on New Years Eve. I miss the shop, the customers, even the odd bods (!),but most of all my workmates who were more like family to me than friends. When I had my children, when my nan died, they were always there for me. And from what I hear, each woolies team is ( was) the same. You'll never get that with any other company. RIP Woolies.
A great tribute to them.A fitting song, the Christmas no.1 single from December 1994, which they stocked, UNLIKE a boatload of other singles I could name which I had to buy at other music retailers.
thats well gd! sooo sad though!! woolworths was 1 of my fave shops! it was all shops conbined into 1 -food -cd -dvd -bathroom stuff -sweets -children stuff AND LOTS MORE! R.I.P!
i was in my local woolies for the last time on saturday and nearly cryed! it was reduced to nothing more than a shell, with vultures stripping it bare of everything including the fixtures! i hugged the staff, many whom i've known for years. it's so really sad.best wishes to all woolies staff all over the country, especially those in bishop auckland xx
Cant believe its gone :'( Woolies shall never be forgotten, My sympathies are also to their 30,000 employees..as the New Year shall be hard for them now, as some compainies sack staff than hire them.
aww,i feel very sad.i loved going into my local store, which closed for the final time last night.i walked past it this afternoon, and the staff, some of whom have worked there for years, were cleaning out what was left of the store.i've known them for years, but despite the fact they've all lost their jobs, they were all smiling and joking,as i waved to them.good luck to all woolworths staff, especially my local mates from bishop auckland.miss you loads xxxx
Their American branch, F.W. Woolworth's, shut down all their US stores in July 1997. Their lunch counters were once the world's largest restaurant chain and they were the originator of the "5 and 10 Cent Store" concept. Big box stores like Wal-Mart ran them out of business. I understand how you feel as "Woolies" disappears just before what would have been its 100th anniversary. My sympathies to their 30,000 employees.
A fitting tribute to a store that truly epitomised the British High Street. A terrible shame that it had to close down so near to making it's 100th year, not least for it's thousands of staff. The sight of this once great company reduced to empty shelves and in general disarray wasn't a pleasant last memory for a store that was always there for just about anything. I never realised that it was originally founded in the USA in 1878, by Frank Winfield Woolworth. My regards and thanks to 'Woolies'

My step-dad got made redundant at the DC in Swindon. Sad to see such a house hold name go down the drain so quickly.
They'll be back though, someone will buy the name of Woolworths Group PLC and start a small chain.
