  • My head exploded.

  • oteil got his start in aru with jimmy herring

  • Wtf, that's otiel!!

  • OMG isn't life strange, knew Jimmy in high school, was an extraordinary person then, and look at him now. I realize this is an older video, but here he looks exactly the same as I remember. What an amazingly talented man and believe me when I tell you the guitar wasn't the only instrument he has mastered. Scarey HUH?

  • oooohhh yeahhhhhh.

  • wsp sux

  • OW!!! My! Dear! GOD!!!

  • Unbelivable!

  • amazing. Great soul....to go with his chops

  • this is some bad ass shit!

    I'm gonna learn this solo!

I'll post a video when I'm done in a year.

  • wow! the guy sure is fluid :)

  • man jimmy is so killin' its quite amazing

  • i saw a man selling vegetables

  • Guitar porn.

  • I believe this was right after Jeff Sipe left the band as well

  • amazing tone

  • Is this when Col. Bruce left the band?

  • Yessir

  • Yeah I love to watch Jimmy then seriously consider going into Golf or something other than guitar playing ..Geez he is just so Amazing and your right really nice Fellow also. .And I really am inspired by him ( Just kidding about the Golf)

  • The sound of Sipe, Oteil, and Herring is some of the hottest music ever.

  • Is he know

  • He's currently in Widespread Panic and is now on tour with his solo band. I'm gonna catch him in Denver on June 12th.

  • does he still tour

  • hells yea

  • He is one of the coolest most humble musicians I've ever had the chance to talk with. Truly a first class individual.

  • Jimmy Herring is from another FUCKING Planet man. Those scales are "Otherworldly"

    Cool man

  • For sure man, a lot of synthetic scales in his trick bag.

  • I'm one of the lucky ones who has this dvd, and i never regret buying it!, Herring is truely the finest guitarist i've ever heard.

I hope to see him live one day.

  • where would you buy this i want it. Ill pay you 20 bucks to burn it and ship it lol ahah

  • Is this from the "Live at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival" DVD? Damn, I need this!

  • sick,,, sick,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OH BOY!!!!

  • some of it definitely sounds atonal but there are chord changes being played here...listen right around :22, oteil will play 2 notes and jimmy instantly recognizes the chord that's implied as he's playing. these guys are amazing

  • YES!!

  • Does anyone know what mode or scale that he is improvising in? Amazing

  • theres alot of chromatic stuff that breaks key but alot of the time hes in either melodic minor or the diminished sclae

  • him and oteil are fuckin masters

  • thats exactly what i thought..... ive been studying this guy since i heard him he's so good

  • Damn! why am I just discovering this guy now!? I really need to make up for lost time!

  • yea dude this guy kills

  • sooooooo kiiiiilllliinnnn

  • I didn't see a man sellin vegetables. He had some fruit though.

  • i saw a man selling vegetables. lolol

genius, pure genius, watch the look on his face after he says it, hilarious, its just like "yup", but this video is here for the guitaring, and i feel that jimmy herring's outside playing & normaly playing too is pretty damn good. i like it. his phrasing is great

  • this guy is one of the best alive today and probably that ever lived but thats all opinion. Anyways, seeing him live really makes you say what the fuck is going on. He plays great with panic, not quite as "outside" sounding but amazing.

  • oteil's playin some 'tallica over in the corner there

  • oh my god... I think i just pooped a little

  • Jeeez, just when I was thinkin' I had some chops!

  • theres an organ player also, Kofi burbridge? and its pentatonic shapes in minor 3rds

  • He was absolutely ridiculous with WSP at Bonnaroo '07... definetly one of my all time favorite guitar players!

  • He looks like a Viking Guitar God, wreaking vengeance with his Strat. Hail Herring!

  • Anyone know that scale?

  • synthetic 6 note scale comprised of a major triad, and the notes from a major triad a tritone away...he actually explains it on the "Jimmy Herring at AIM Dec.06" video

  • That's actually wrong. The bass line is a diminished scale, and he's using pentatonic shapes, the whole-half diminished scale, and even a hybrid minor scale over the top. It's more like three scales, then he moves a half step up or down to create more altered tension with his pentatonic movement.

  • Okay, but what about the parent root key?

  • " D "

  • no-nobody knows the scale because it wasnt a scale-it is probably based off of alot of scales and alot of ideas and notes that come from outside that scales-it is improv-

  • He explains the scale in a couple of videos online. He definitely goes into some synthetic scales, a lot of whole half diminished stuff, maybe some altered pents as well to complete the sound.

  • The singer is Paul Hanson, and he is a great dude...

  • Amazing player...the only saving grace for Widespread Panic these days.

  • Jimmy Herring is one of the most melodic guitarists I've ever heard. Ad it doesn't hurt to have Oteil groovin behind you...or Alphonzo....

  • The most eccentric and original electric guitarists Ive ever heard.... and Ive heard alot my friend...

  • Jimmy is god among guitar players.

  • Jimmy rules - met him in 97 in Rhode Island... unfortunately, they hadn't axed this singer yet. Thank god I can't remember his name! lol

  • the singer may be a weirdo but he is an awesome singer, i wish they still had him

  • i saw a man selling vegetables

  • Genious

  • He's incredible, thanks for sharing this link Dustin. This guy is amazing. As for him just standing there, this guy could sit down and sit backwards to the audience and he'd still be phenomenol.

  • gorgeous tone! and his syncopation is excellent

  • that oteil i see?

  • Going to see him play in Orlando tonight with ARU.I expect nothing less than a religious experience!!

  • What's he supposed to do?? Do the splits and jump off the drum riser while holding a bottle of JD?? Real players focus on playing...not acting like a circus star. His major influence is Al DiMeola. Played for the Aquarium Rescue Unit for many years, filled in for Dickey Betts with The Allman Brothers and played with Phil Lesh and Friends for several years which led to his short stint filling Jerry Garcia's shoes in The Dead. He is now lead guitarist for Widespread Panic.

  • fuckin badass

  • Dang... why haven't I heard of this guy before? His playing's got the smarts & vocabulary of jazz with the teeth of rock. Very humbling & also inspiring.

  • ....Nice, but...he just stands there....

  • It's a jazz concert, not a dance contest..

  • nice!

  • kick ass!jimmy rules!
