  • As one of the younger listeners and a newbie to classical music, I can honestly say I have found no one except Vladimir Horowitz who can play this piece perfectly, especially from 8:40 onwards with no mistakes and perfect flow. If anyone has any suggestions of pieces they think I might like please feel free to let me know... :)

  • Fuck O2, im tired of these fucking ads

  • If I was gay, and Horowitz was alive, I would marry him.

  • some of us get homesick, but this is what Chopin wrote when he was (for Poland)

  • Horowitz and Chuck Norris don't need Music Sheets to play this.

  • @martienvert

Chuck Norris can do without a piano either

  • Accidently disliked hurry upp and shoot

  • Playing starts at 1:02 if anyone is interested.

  • You're version?? Version!!? This cannot be bested; no other version is needed! I just need new unde wear.

  • New underwear please!

  • Check my version at watch?v=r815vY2IpjA

  • ECCEZIONALE....solo la musica può trasmettere ciò che si prova ascoltando questi pezzi...ogni parola è superflua!

  • this is the definite recording of this piece. It has the most sublime pianissimo and fortissino I have ever heard.... for example at 7:02 it is just marvelous I hear those bass notes and I can feel chills it is wonderful. Also the speed is just right, it's not super fast or super slow it is just right. The pianissimo notes are also delightful such as in 04:55 and so on...

  • you have to watch it in 240p

  • If sex was music

  • I recorded this originally using 6 rubber bands and a piece of string.

  • video response:

    watch?v=EcEEfZBFrNw

  • we need 252 condoms and a time machine

  • @CockyLambert dude; that was one of the funniest responses to the "dislikes" that i have ever seen totally agree with you!

  • you can tell this was originally recorded on magnetic tape... shame :(

  • horowitz is one of the finest pianists of the 20th century...but I find him exaggerating the dynamics and rubato at times

  • @asdfqwervd It's really funny that you think you're capable of judging this man. I assume you're quite the professional when it comes to playing the piano?

  • @FatToti it doesn't come from "playing piano"...it comes from "listening" to music and looking at the score and I do know how to read scores.

  • Comment removed

  • @FatToti I got a glimpse of your last message b4 u deleted it. in all seriousness by your logic, we also cannot praise horowitz because, heck I can't play the Ballade in G-minor by Chopin so what do I know about good or bad playing, right? The problem is people can only accept praise for those they love, and not criticism. What I said about Horowitz is very true...you ever listen to his take on Schubert's Gb impromptu? Holy smokes it's slow with xtreme rubato.

  • @asdfqwervd What do you mean you got a glimpse of it? Did my comment load in parts on your computer screen? I have no idea what you're talking about, honestly. Do you have schizophrenia?

  • @FatToti you know what I'm talking about you stuck up little shit. you have the dumbest logical arguments I have ever heard...that's probably why you removed that comment, but it's okay, a copy of it is in my inbox since you hit the reply button already.

  • @asdfqwervd Good for you. Are you quite finished?

  • @FatToti Horowitz uses ridiculous rubato and dynamics at times...and it's the truth.

  • @asdfqwervd Wonderful. I'm sure you're a legendary pianist. Perhaps you'd school me for a generous sum?

  • @FatToti Even the Legendary Pianists make mistakes. You make it sound like they can do no wrong. You must have sucked Horowitz's dick or something.

  • @FatToti So if one is not a master concert pianist one have to like a lot of rubato and changes in dynamics?

I would say these things are a matter of taste.

  • His performance is really awe-inspring! It is regrettable that the life of a human being is limited, but his performance will remain for ever :)

  • The funny thing is, this piece is really really really hard. But lets get real here, it's Horowitz..

  • lang lang better

  • Comment removed

  • The present-day pianist is shameless.

  • This is fun xD

  • Just an amateur observation: few people can relieve the tension that builds up before the A major section with the high A major chord, like Horowitz does here.

  • Sissco - thank you for sharing this gem!

  • ほろびっつはピアノ上手いけどショパン弾きではないな〜〜

  • Grand kif, émotion

  • if u dislike this u got some serious issues

  • @Ratoscruvy well it depends what you mean by trust. it is by no means a scholarly source but it is useful if you want to learn the basics of a subject without getting overloaded with technical jargon... you could say i'm not a wiki sceptic.

but anyway that's beside the point if you are referring to this piece, because you can always use your ear to compare other versions of this piece with horowitz.

  • Talent beyond words.

  • Um homem como esse jamais poderia morrer!!!!

  • 8:42 BEAST MODE: ON

  • There are no words...

  • He still has no successor.

  • @Chopinrocks71 I disagree as well, I think this piece was played beautifully and its become my favourite version amoungst the others I have heard so far. In fact, many pianists agree that Horowitz has set the standard on how to play this piece. Don't believe me? Check wikipedia :)

  • @kasonleung

    You trust wikipedia?

  • I was actually surprised at how much insight there is in this performance. A number of new inner lines, connections, long-term patterns are brought to the surface very explicitly. It's not exactly subtle, but as a road map to just what is contained within the piece if you look hard enough, it's actually rather impressive.

  • At 5:43 he really starts to butcher this piece, no unity or symmetry as he changes the tempo or mood of the passages. This instantly made me cringe and want to stop the pain. I guess you either love Horror Witz or hate him. I think I can safely say where this version can go.

  • @Chopinrocks71 comment again when you are 75 and still able to play like this...

  • @rushnovodic Everyone is entitled to their opinions. All you have to do is click on comment and proceed to type. Last I checked, anything that is available to voice an opinion can be commented on. This I have done. Here's another opinion. It takes brains to memorize music and project it through your hands on to the keys, however it takes talent to transcend beyond memorization. I'd rather listen to someone making technical errors but playing with soul than a robot like him.

  • Make that 251!

  • An ultimate fusion of man, artist, keyboard and of course, Chopin. Pure, absolute union.

  • 4:04 to 4:26 gives meaning to live

  • 250 people don't know shit about music...smfh

  • Magnificent and truly unbelievable

  • I had 2 and a half month when he died and im proud of that i was lucky enought to live in Horowitz's time!

  • it just pulls something out of your chest doesn't it?

  • just............ awesome.

  • Horowitz is incredible :O

  • He was dead by the time I was born, but in a weird way I miss him anyway.

  • Love you, daddy :)

  • Totally blown away. That passage which starts aproximently at 8:45 is hard enough to pull off at any tempo. Horowitz's incredible flat fingered technique allows him to bring that particular passage to a level of unheared dimension.

  • If I could have only witnessed Chopin play in person.... I wonder how much different it must have been.

  • What year was this ?

  • @custardapple777 The year was 1968 - the entire concert is uploaded on YT.

  • @Bret6464 Thanks Bret !

  • With such expression it is as if Chopin is there himself!

  • the wierd tremelo from the tapes kinda ruins it

  • wowwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • is there any available dvd of this that can we bought in amazon or anywhere? what's the title of the DVD?

  • 8.11 recitativo...magic..

  • recorded by a rock

  • starts at 1:01

  • Ok...Fucking incredible.

  • OMG!!!!

  • Virtuose et méditatif à la fois, on dirait qu'il contemple l'oeuvre en même temps qu'il joue.

  • Regardez ses mains à 9:24

  • Il a de très grandes mains et de très longs doigts. (for english public : long hands and fingers)

  • my comments never gets thumbs up

  • Does anyone know if Horowitz ever met or communicated his teacher Sergei Tarnowsky after the latter moved to the United States? I have a vicarious curiosity about the life of Horowitz and some information is hard to find.

  • @jacgallo i believe you misused the word vicarious... The correct word in that context would be voracious. LOL

  • @jacgallo Very likely, Tarnowsky settled in the USA before Horowitz did, but in the 1930's all of the Russian emigres had occasion to meet and communicate - I mean, Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Heifetz, Milstein, The Lhevinnes, Siloti, Hofmann, etc... were all in/around New York/Philadelphia. There are many great biographies of Horowitz published in the USA.

  • GO JEWS

  • "All men are created equaLIES!~

  • music starts at 1:01

  • This performance is another testament to the greatness of jewish people.

  • @iniohos2 Are you speaking about Chopin...XD? Because the composer hated the Jews. Chopin's talent and Horowitz's virtuosity is not related to the religion. To attribute a talent to the race of the subject already the Nazi did it

  • @iniohos2

I think you should reconsider your comment!! Don't let the propaganda influence you mind, every man is for him self, making stamp in history if he can. Horowitz can make his stamp in books of history, but not because he's a Jew but because he has grate talent which he managed to develop to maximum level.. Are you aware of fact that there are tons of successful people who r not Jews? And guess what, it doesn't matter, at all! When you grow up, you will understand! Piss:)))off

  • Is Horowitz the only pianist that can hold the right tempo on the presto in the end? Everyone seems to play it way too slow, but this guy is brilliant

  • Chopin would have been proud!

I just posted my interpretation of Nocturne opus 9 ,No.2. I would appreciate your comments. Please click on my link 'alfonsopablo' next to this comment to listen.

  • the greatest performance since the romantic era, Horowitz truly is the last romantic and there will never be someone like him!

  • Horowitz (F)or (T)he (W)in !!

  • I have been waiting several decades for this historic recital to be available on DVD but have since given up.I am therefore infinitely grateful to Sissco for making this event available, so that serious piano students everywhere can watch the greatest pianist that ever lived at the peak of his transcendental artistry. When Horowitz first visited Rudolf Serkin at his home, he played this G minor Ballade, and Serkin said he almost fell over, and had never heard playing like that before.

  • So I'm 15, and I played this for my recital yesterday...could you guys give some feedback on my interpretation? Thanks :)

    watch?v=_jrAvWvPkAA

  • This. This is the one performance that moved me so to tears. This still does.

  • Not that I want to act as a judge or anything, but ,uh, I think he bangs too much at 9:09, something which does not fit Chopin's general style...

  • One of the best Chopin interpreters, right, but there was a man called Sergei Rachmaninoff......

  • thank you for posting!

I was so moved to tears by this legendary play.........

  • no puedo dejar de verlo

  • im sitting with my grandfather right now. he is 87 years old. and he told me he went to this concert. confused.

  • If there was a video of chopin, it would be like this. I'm sure.

  • I've listened to this literally over 100 times in the past couple of days :o

Try to see how much paper writing I can get done during repeats :P

  • assurdooooooooooooo

  • i just wish someone could remove the buzzing noise and make a better version.I loved this song the first time I heard in the movie 'The Pianist'.

  • who can describe this? whithout words

  • i guess Horowitz is one of the great pianist who can interpret and bring out the emotion that Chopin hide in every piece of his work

  • Ummm.....how are we supposed to listen to this beautiful music at max volume with the clapping at the beginning and the end?

  • I've been working on the Ballade, i turn 16 in two weeks...I played it, and I have a few mistakes, but if you guys could tell me what you think about my version of Chopin's Ballade No. 1, I'd be happy. Go to my page and click on the video, "Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G Minor." Thanks. :)

  • I was there, then I was born the next year!

  • ti tocca l'anima e ti prende "dentro" Horowitz fa esplodere tutta la musica di Chopin

  • I like Horowitz and I liked how he played this but personally, I play it with a tad more emotion. But he was getting paid to play and I'm not so he must be doing something right...

  • 08:44 to 08:53 make this piece for me

  • @Hoogenbloogen Yes, with the greatest respect: he swings so much that Art Tatum would have played it.

  • @Hoogenbloogen lol, I'd love to see 3:03 - 3:21 made into a piece.... although for those particular 18 seconds I'm not as much a fan of Horowitz's interpretation :( Love the guy to bits otherwise, though :D ^^

  • @enricoshyster interesting. I personally liked his interpretation the most because he added that poetic charm to that part.

  • @enricoshyster Wow. That just shows how it's all in the eye or ear of the beholder. 3:03 - 3:21 is my favorite part of the song.

  • how happy I am people like Chopin lived in this world! a real angel, a gentle, passionate soul.. can make a body tremble from excitement!

  • i respect you no matter what, if u were gay, had depression or watever, you played with great love and passion, and thats all that mattered

  • I'm 15. So what?! does it mean Im a geek? Old fashion? a Jurk? Do I need to listen to to Biebers in order to be normal? Why is that? Why people need to be so stupid! Its f**cking CHOPIN!!

  • @wazfrmoz was it in usa?? anyway chopin ballade is a great piece and that too by Horowitz!!!

  • @sury39 australia, im aussie!

  • I just looked up the biography of Vladimir Horowitz. It's quite a sad one. It seems he was gay and as a result (in those homophobic times) suffered from depression and had electric-shock treatment. God bless him, on this day when we in Poland remember Poland becoming independent (something denied when Chopin was alive).

  • ringrazio gli idoli che trovano questi video storia e li mettono sul web

  • Only a genius can play even the first 8 like this. I remember hearing this for the fist time forty years ago and the impression was completely overwhelming.................well after all these years i'm even more amazed at the sheer incandescence of this supreme artist.

  • this is brilliant beyond my mental capacity

  • Comment removed

  • how does one even think this shit up?

  • yo d00dz this track TOTALLY PWNS gj niggaaaa

  • Incredible.

  • incredible

  • Too fast... I dont like

  • Chopin's best interpreter.

  • @Lalagartitita Everyone's best interpreter.

  • @Lalagartitita I Believe Arthur Rubinstein is :)

  • @Lalagartitita objection. He is good but Chopin's true interpretor of the XX century remains Arthur Rubinstein.

  • @TheDoucheChanel You may be right, it's just that I had several eargasms listening to this interpretation of the first ballade, and I definitely prefer his Chopin. But it's just my opinion :)

  • i was doing homeworks and listen to this, i finished them at 9:48 LOL

  • Remarkable.

  • bellísima interpretación, sus dedos hipnotizan

  • ="D

  • ♥

  • enormous!!! one of the genius of keyboard

  • H i - F i

  • 241 people can suck a big fat ivory schlong.

  • Vladimir is my favourite interperator of Chopin. Pure perfection. Rest in peace both Horowitz and Chopin! :)

  • @PureFlipMinoHD what the fuck are you talking about, are your ears fucking clogged or something?

  • Muito bom, vale a pena assistir, o vídeo só fica ruim no começo, depois melhora.

  • Kissin plays this piece sooooooooo much better. I've yet to find any version by any pianist who even comes close to playing this piece as good as Kissin. Unfortunately his version just got taken down youtube =(

  • @coryprinzo troll

  • no one plays this better

  • Thank you!

  • does his fingers is bigger than normal human or just the effect of my widescreen?

  • @gelfddelfg sure, he had really big hands

  • Words are not necessary! Why do we even listen to some shitty musics nowadays where they just say bullshit when we have this treasures?! This is just perfect!

  • @DiniGama I hate modern music. Its getting worse too. on the radio they were talking about a new genre of music that's becoming more popular and they played a song. it is a blend of noises that happen at very random times. it is the most horrible thing i have ever heard. there's no depth or technique. music now is all about one key and a drum beat. its shameful.

  • i always tell people nothing is perfect, that all finish product are always a work in progress. Although Horowitz may had minor mistakes, every time i listen to this recording, i feel, this is more than merely perfection, this is what makes good music, Horowitz has made this his own.Anyone can perfect a technique, but to let someone in your world, to make someone feel something almost divine, transcending this world, that is not even worthy of perfection but in the places of angels and saints.
