  • 1:15 , i watched a video on MLB Network on that showed how Carlos Beltran got such good jumps on a fly ball and it was because he didn't take the little step back, but his first movement was a long stride with the opposite leg.

  • Damn it lay off of pain113......I know that if I got a first baseman's MIT I would not be able to afford a second MIT. And you can use a fist baseman's MIT in the outfield....u can use a catchers MIT if you want to but it is just easier to use an outfielders MIT......so stop being such dicks to the guy

  • you are honestly a fucking idiot. everything you are doing is wrong, you always take you first step back you don't just stand there like an idiot. what would that do? and where are you training at, a little league field?

  • Your using a 1st basemen MIT

  • looks like he is using football shoulder pads

  • really cool CoachBuford

  • Lesson #1......Use the right glove.........

  • I play for an MSBL team SL Rangers, I play LF and CF and I'm tellin you that both ways he explained are the correct ways to field. The first step back thing, will burn you more than help. he's right, the stop and freeze technique is correct.

  • he probably got cut from his freshman baseball team

  • hes sooooo wrong. rule #1, first step is ALWAYS back. never take ur first step forward, even if the balls of in front, cause its easier to go forward than backward. and also, the guys wearin a first basemans mit, so dont listen to a first baseman about outfield unless he actually plays the outfield.

  • @lhhbuck77 lol he's just using a first baseman's glove...it doesn't matter it's just a glove and baseball players play practically anywhere on the field so he might know a thing or two about outfield

  • @Pain113 So, do you play outfield? If you do then you would know that your first step is always back. And I play outfield and 1st. I got a 1st baseman's mitt, and I only use it to play 1st or catch, other than that, I use my other glove to play outfield.

  • @Pain113 I used to play outfield and first base, and I would never use a first basemen mitt in the outfield. Different positions have different gloves for a reason.

  • this is the exact opposite of what every coach has every taught me. every baseball camp i ever went to always said the first step in the outfield is back.

  • "us as outfielders". hah hes wearin a first basemans mit. lol

  • this is all completely wrong. if the ball is hit to your glove side your first step should be with the opposite foot. a crossover step like when youre stealing a base.

  • notice how non of these are drills

  • when runners are on base you catch a ground ball should be the catch on other foot but your glove side foot, well, or i should say both are fine but a lot pro do other foot and so do i

  • Taking a step back as an outfielder fielding a fly ball isn't a bad thing to do.. you can stay still until you know where the ball's going to be, but taking a step back will never hurt. However, never make the first step IN. It's always better to have the ball in front of you than behind you.

  • Everyone is sort of right. 1st step back is basically a crutch for breaking the instinct of wanting to run in on line drives. It doesn't make someone a bad player if that's how they play the OF. 1st step back can even be very similar to what I call a 'freeze' in that you haven't really committed but you're still in a ready postiion, your foot's just back. That being said not committing until you know where the ball is is ideal. I've played 30 years in cf and I do a freeze on unsure liners

  • Nice tips bro, easy to follow.

  • Coach do we as outfielders use a first baseman's glove?

  • Wearing a 1B does matter you ass! Especially when he's saying a direct quote @ 9 secs "us as outfielders have to be ready to move" Some things he says is ok. A good outfield will sometimes anticipate where the ball is hit by knowing what his pitcher is going to do with the pitch to the batter & all batters have tendencies which can help the fielder adjust & prepare....this can also be called having baseball savvy!!!! REAL BALLPLAYERS HAVE SAVVY!!!!!!! Many of you leaving quotes do not....

  • I was always trained to make my first move a small step back.

  • same here, its always easier to run back then in than in then back

  • @SinfulMessiah

    thats what i was thinking

  • 1/5 shit vid dont make anymore vids this is total shit ur teaching us how 2 play the outfeild in a first base mit and ur first step should always b back because its better to have the ball infront of u then behind you dont say shit you dont know about dumb ass and if i didnt say you look like a pedafile

  • well instead of taiking shit why dont you show everyone how its done make a video major leaguer!!!!

  • @Johnnyboy414 talking shit over the internet does not make you tough...

  • @erikmunoz55 Hey sorry about that, it was probably one of my friends, i dont do that online, since it is completely pointless. I deleted them.

  • @Johnnyboy414 dont worry about it man...

  • This is such a horrible video plus who ever learns how to do outfield drills off of you tube is a loser. and it makes them worse cuz ur a horrible coach/ video maker

  • First move is "not" always back....first move is determining where that ball is gonna be landing and then u make your 2nd move which is either back, forward or to either side...duh. And just because he has a first basemans glove on means nothing.

  • Hmmm...notice the first baseman glove he's wearing. So we got a 1B talking about outfield drills....

  • i was gonna say the same thing.lol

  • what if it's a high grounder or a bad hop?

  • Hopefully, I'll remember all this on the field cause it looks hard!

  • he looks like he gets to the side of the ball when he tells us you should always get your body in front of the ball not the side just in case if you were to miss it you would at least stop the ball with your body but the side its going past you

  • The first step should be back, but I think what he is saying is that if you don' t have a good read on the ball, stop, then pursue. Why waste a step back?

  • ok well your first move is always back? .. on you have a first base glove! .. duh!

  • most of this is good information but your first move in the outfield is always back....and when you drop the knee, your kneecap should be faceing to the side.

  • Yeah whats he talking about, the first move is always back! Because its easier to right forward if you have to, then to have to run backwards.

  • Always back.....

  • First step always back, what's with the first base glove DUHHHH

  • First step is always back regardless. It is better to keep the ball in front of you so there are no extra bases. Nice firstbaseman's glove in the outfield!

  • ur first step should be back knox

  • drop the knee.. knee should be turned slightly because it allows more coverage and when you stand up you don't tip over.

  • Exelente video, ayuda a la correccion de errores de los peloteros.. Gracias

  • Do you do 6 inches in baseball?

  • nope not for me

  • You have to judge the ball for your self. If the ball is a high fly ball you want to move back. If the wind is blowing out towards the fence then you want to step back b/c it will travel out. He had it down pat he knows what he is talking about.

  • ur first step is always either back or just stand there...

  • ha.

what a dumbass, this shit is like tee-ball.

ha, your "First step is always back"

    this guy sucks.

  • this is retarted

  • Why do you have a first baseman's glove and talking about the outfield....

  • irrelevant

  • most likely he plays first base for real, and doesnt want to buy a new glove just for this video.

  • First of all a good outfielder is always moving before the ball is hit. I always teach and what I did was when the pitcher goes into his delivery, I would move my feet similar to the way a tennis player receives a serve I also try to teach guys to make that first step a crossover and not a jab step By jab stepping you lose time and about 30 inches of travel. Newbies should drop step Lastly, you need to move your headinstantly after contact so your brain can triangulate the ball's trajectory

  • thats some good coaching right there!!!

  • id rather the ball be in front of me than behindd me

  • First move is not always back. You would be piss if the ball fell a foot in front of you because your first step was back. It really should just be reaction. If in doubt maybe take a step back.

  • Hes using a first base mit.

  • @RMTProduktionz hes a mlb first basemen

  • @RMTProduktionz yeah people were making fun of him but it dont matter its just a video

  • very good techniques that were covered.

  • amazing how many MyCoachOnline knock offs are poping up!

  • is this a first basemen trying to teach outfielders?

  • first move should always b back. its easier to go in on a ball rather than back on it.
