Nothing against wrestling though. Preety strong fighters, but they lean foward, witch makes them vulnerable to hip throws.

most wrestlers who tend to dabble in more than folkstyle wrestling, such as Greco Roman or Freestyle wrestling, they usually learn to not lean forward seeing as how bad the trows can get XD. wrestlers usually do lean forward unless they are taught otherwise

ah yah. Greco-Roman Wrestling is almost the same thing as Judo. Folkstyle is basically High School wrestling. Freestyle is a mix of the two. all different in many ways

you can't compare wrestling (mma if that's what you mean) to judo, they're different sports/marshal arts plus that you don't get points or win when you throw your opponent in mma.

And judokas probably have some weaknesses which "wrestlers" can expose too. Also, most wrestlers lean over deeply bent legs with a relatively wide stance, not making them vulnerable to hip throws. Maybe if they were not going to respond to someone rushing in, but not in reality. My Judo coach taught some western style wrestling classes.

if you're getting a black belt in a year, the club you're training at is shit and is only there to generate money, not create good fighters. Most black belts for karate take around 4.5 - 5 years depending on the dojo, some more.

I would say most of them was ippons. To mark an ippon u need speed, clarity and power.

Actually, to score an ippon, you need to throw the opponent cleanly onto their back with impetus (ie power).

Many of the throws didn't result in the person being thrown cleanly onto their back.

There is too much of a tendency amongst referees to score the throw according to how the throw looks, rather than how the person lands.

About half the throws in this clip weren't worthy of ippons, and indeed you can see that some were not scored as ippons.

Some nice techniques in there though.

It's easy to say that when you're sitting there comfortably watching a video of the throw without any pressure at all on your shoulders. In the fight, there's really nothing wrong in being a bit generous with ippons. A good waza-ari could very well be awarded ippon instead, without anyone's objection.

Although, I have to say, 0:39 is a Hansukomake in my eyes. He's diving forward >_>

I've done probably somehwere in the region of 400 contests in my life, and I have refereed contests to, so I know what the pressure is like.

That said, the referee isn't the only one to blame - the line judges should indicate if they disagree with the score.

Over-scoring a technique is as bad as under-scoring it. Awarding an ippon for a waza-ari throw denies the opponent any chance to win the contest afterwards.

As for 0:39, I think you could be right - it does seem like a head dive.

"kata" means "form" and "garuma" means "wheel"

so put together i think it means form wheel and not sure its a sacrifice but i'll ask my instructor tonight.

The correct spelling is Kata Guruma, the meaning in translation is "Shoulder wheel".

Kata has a doubling meaning, Form & Shoulder.

Guruma means wheel.

I did judo for a while but gave up because i kept getting back injuries is there anyway to protect against this because i want to go back .I have a fairly tall thin frame might this be a reason?

yes that is a major factor i do judo and hey im 85 KGs and i never really get hurt allso being thin and tall counters the oppents weight seeing as u have the tallness u slip over their centre of gravity so it has advandges but i do surgest u put a bit of weight on anyway you will lose it fast doing judo

dude, im just like u (tall and thin), and I still do judo. in my opinion, the easiest way to counter a body disadvantage is to just learn technique, and rely on skill rather than strength. I rely on leg sweeps like tai-otoshi and o-soto-gari to see me through, so I just make sure I perfect those.
