Yepp! That's the same symptom I have with my device since yesterday. Everytime I wanted to start navigation the screen to add a waypoint popped up and the system was blocked afterwards.
Even a master reset (hold page button + clickstick and then turn it on) did not help. I will try a firmware update now and will return it for warranty/repair if it doesn't help. My device is now about three years old and it worked perfect until yesterday.
I have one of these and works great - only problem was rubber casing coming adrift after 18 months or so. Garmin were great and exchanged for refurbished unit even though was out of warranty.
My Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx freezes like that sometimes. It is annoying when it freezes while it is logging tracks. Someone told me that it could be due to a bad map, but my maps are straight from Garmin's online store... I will contact Garmin and see if they can fix this or give me a replacement unit.
had the same problem amongst several others and tried calling garmin in south africa where i bought it australia where i live and the us where garmin live. the people i spoke with were rude and unhelpful
Turned out to be a faulty unit.. I replaced it at the store, and the replacement has worked perfect for many years now. I highly recommend the Vista HCx, the best GPS I've owned. Has all the features you need. I use it in my car, on my motocycle, and on my bicycle.. so it gets a lot of abuse but keeps going strong.
I wonder if they ever tested these units before production. Like I said, mine gets a blue line of death and the only thing I can do is pull the batteries and restart it. Not even the on/off button will work after upgrading the firmware. Don't get me started on the flimsy connector. Who the hell thought of that format??
I am referring to the one on the legend. Its not the usb one but the serial. it has 2 thin little tabs that hold it against the back of it and break off real easy.
I returned this unit to the store and they exchanged for another (same Vista model) and the replacement unit has been perfect.. no freezing, not a single problem. So must be an issue in their production and I just happended to get a lemon. Make sure if you buy one the store will give you an exchange policy!
That's bad luck. I've used my Vista C for over three years and I don't think it's ever crashed on me once. Tough, reliable little units! Looks like Garmin have got to sort that out.

What do you mean 'flimy connector. who thought of that format??r'? Its USB, Garmin didnt come up with it.
My only problem with my Vista Hcx is the rubber gasket around the unit is coming loose.

Did you try calling Garmin? Did you update the software?

It didn't work for me to upgrade the software at all. I get a line of death even with new batteries now and then.

I am having the exact same problem. Garmin had me upgrade the firmware from 2.4 to 2.6 but it didn't do anything.
