Quran also says: if the offenders (with whom you are in a state of war) tend to negotiate (i.e. reach a mutual understanding) .. what should you do? they are still attacking you, yet in that case, as a muslim leader, you are COMPELLED to put down arms and negotiate, i.e. forbidden to even retaliate until negotiations proceed

My point is that moral values are coming from the human capacity to have empathy. Human has the consciousness of others. You wouldn't give pain to others because if you were at the other place, you wouldn't like to have pain. This is the start point of morals. No need of religion for that. In fact, if religion states some solid rock laws of morals (can't be modified because they're from god), they will necessarily be wrong in some occasion because you have to continuously perfect you morals.

A video promoting peace in the name of a religion will always attract haters, no matter which religion it is. The reason is very simple. For a individual person, its religion is necessarily a religion of peace. But all religions has blood on their hands. Morals of today could be teach to people of the past. But past morals are not good for today (like sciences).
Here is an exemple: In quran, one say that you can kill other if they attack you. And quran (and bible) are saying : eye for eye, teeth for teeth. While this simplistic moral seem logic, normally, nowadays a better wisdom should ask you to understand why others are attacking you. In our age of nuclear weapons, no one should use those morals.

The question you asked about "pedophile" is answered elsewhere and clearly it is not covered under this verse.
The verse (even in its English translation) talks about harm that could be quantified in a way that makes retribution also quantifiable, other crimes are covered elsewhere in Quran and Hadith

I am not "literate" enough to answer you question yet I don't find it weird that they whiplash for adultery. Whiplash was an approved punishment for certain crimes in Western soceities until recently.
You might find it harsh, and to some extent I agree with you, but I think punishment is not supposed to be "gentle" esp. for a crime as harsh as having hardcore sex in front of AT LEAST four trustworthy witnesses (this is the definition of adultery in Islam BTW, not just having sex)

My point is that moral values are coming from the human capacity to have empathy. Human has the consciousness of others. You wouldn't give pain to others because if you were at the other place, you wouldn't like to have pain. This is the start point of morals. No need of religion for that. In fact, if religion states some solid rock laws of morals (can't be modified because they're from god), they will necessarily be wrong in some occasion because you have to continuously perfect you morals.

Its easy, which ever one u prefer believe in it. On the other hand Quran stays untouched/unedited by humans even though christians and jews tryed their best many time to change the text. Its not easy but it is the only complete code of life. Truth bites!

Read Quran 3.3 where your Allah revealed to Muhammad that HE had sent down the Quran with the TRUTH,confirming what came down b4 it, that he sent down the Torah and the injeel - the gospels. I never said anything. When you say 'them', please note that not all people are religion-haters. I am always open to new things. And I believe that your religion is something extremely important to most of you, and I understand that, I accept it and I find peace with the fact that people don't always believe in the same things.
The 'they' you talk about, are the people who have only dealt with islamic people who shove their religion down their throats. It's not everyone (;

@theTimothydelaGhetta If someone beats up his wife and gives her no freedom than thats not even islam. Its forbiden to beat up your wife , we muslim women have same rights as men. So dont Judge us and make up stuff because a person did it and labeled it islam. I believe its cruel that people do that in the world

@nenekkucomel Promoting peace in a video in the name of human rights, community and so on, will never attract haters. A video promoting peace in the name of a religion will always attract haters, no matter which religion it is. The reason is very simple. For a individual person, its religion is necessarily a religion of peace. But all religions has blood on their hands. So when other people post their religion (say Islam) as THE truth, it hurts other people beliefs and perhaps intelligence.
