@TheKidWithTheCrown I get what you're saying, but that's just something we don't agree on. I don't like punishing people who are successful (money wise) by taxing them more than someone who makes minimum wage. Wealthier people would still be paying more money than someone of a lower income, but it's still the same percentage. It only seems fair.

Personally I don't see what a lot of people's problem with flat tax is. No, the rich people aren't spending a higher percentage of their money, but they're still spending more money. Why should someone be taxed $5 million for every $10 million they make, if someone else is only taxed $1 for every $100 they make? I make less than $15,000/year before taxes, but I think making someone else pay higher taxes because you want more money very much resembles stealing.

I think a flat tax would be great. Everyone pays the same percentage so no one gets gouged. However, its unrealistic to believe that that will happen any time in the near future because that would mean simplify the tax code and the politicians depend on that complex code to reward their constituents and the special interests that fund their campaign. I do not think that we should raise taxes on the wealthy. Though people don't like to admit it they account for most of the federal tax revenue.

i make 19000 a year, why should anyone make 10-15 times more than that and not have to pay taxes on it. There is way too much wasted wealth that could be used to semi-solve the problem we have, but it will never happen...

You can't say that a hard working middle-class man puts less effort than a CEO (very untrue) at work. The CEO has a much higher pay not because he does more than the middle-class worker.

Gov't needs to find ways to bring BACK jobs to the good ol' USA. Now Im not talking about building more Wal-marts I mean real manufacturing jobs that pay more than 8 bucks an hour. Tax the crap out of all these American co.'s outsourcing jobs overseas, or make them pay such a high import tax that nobody will buy there USA caps "made in Indonesia". Just a thought.

@98kornfan I'm sorry but that's an uniformed opinion. The truth is that not only are taxes unnecessary but so is money. And before you say anything typical, think about it for a second. We have all this need in the world, starving people, wars, poverty you name it Somehow we don't have enough money to solve these things yet we have the resources. Take food for instance, we have enough food to feed the hungry but not enough money to make it happen. Money sounds like the problem not the answer

@FellVoice Thats True, but how do you make money? by having a job if our GOVT has money it can create jobs and then people can spend and the economy would get out of its slump (over lots of years but it would happen) and then we could get out of our debt then, Then we could send help also The UN and peace corps (2 govt funded programs) already send help so if we could get more money (by raising taxes) we could put more money into these programs

Now, a corporation has no more incentive (remember, it's only incentive is to make money) to act in a patriotic fashion regarding the United States of America than any other country. In fact, there's more incentive to act patriotically towards, say, China because they will let them dump their toxic wastes, provide cheap labor with no controls, and make products that are unsafe for consumers. The international industrial corporate structure now rules the planet, a true Steppenwolf style monster.

Corporate personhood is the basic problem. The tax rates of the 1950's were the highest in our history (was it 90% top rate?) but the loopholes caused corporations to act in ways that mimic patriotism. Hire more people, give health care and retirement benefits to it's workers, build skyscrapers. Corporations grew their company, stocks did well, bonds did well, the country's infrastructure became the envy of the world and the middle class became the engine of a new economic reality, consumerism.

i make 19000 a year, why should anyone make 10-15 times more than that and not have to pay taxes on it. There is way too much wasted wealth that could be used to semi-solve the problem we have, but it will never happen...

@victazar20 Though I haven't read the post you're replying to, I can tell you as a student of marketing management and economics that many wealthy people have put effort but not as much as you make it seem that they have to gain (not earn necessarily) what they have. You can't say that a hard working middle-class man puts less effort than a CEO (very untrue) at work. The CEO has a much higher pay not because he does more than the middle-class worker.
