I'm an illustrator and I'd have good reasons to support comic and art conventions, but I don't. I can't close my eyes before this nasty manufactured recession that is hitting people everywhere in the world. Kristine's question was legitimate and appropriate. Entertainment makes life sweeter, but it should never be used as a blindfold. However, that's what it ultimately is.
I actually get where she is coming from; I would have delivered the message in a better way but her point that WE as a nation need to be more proactive in lobbying and dictating what OUR elected officials so do is valid, but she did not say that. Her original statement was that she did not feel spending money on Comic Con was valid; I sure hope she made a report on the 88 million dollars spend on a NYC apartment, or was that valid!!??!!
@Deman444 Totally agree with you - a story questioning a nation's values needs to either be directed to all forms of entertainment and needless spending, or at least something more substantial. A comic book convention is a pretty niche market which takes a lot of flack in general from the public for being nerdy or whatever, so using it as an example in this point will probably not reach most people and instead contribute to the "what a bunch of losers wasting their money/lives" camp.
Im a Hard working lower middle class citizen, I make $300 dollars a week but already owe much more than I make. Im only 20 but I cant even afford to continue my education at a community college in this economy. Thats why I took a low paying Job that will give me an education after six months rather than a higher paying job that couldn't offer schooling. Out of the $1200 a month that I make I keep only $100 and the rest pays for my car, my insurance, and bills...I STILL GO TO COMIC CON!
I collect comics (certain specific ones) and obviously all these mediocre fools who have contempt for critical analysis certainly do not represent or reflect the entire spectrum of intelligent progressive and worldly comic collectors and enthusiasts... the reporter should have ignored these unbelievably stupid tweets instead of apologizing...
Valid question, Kristine. not something you should get hate message for. though it seems to me that people don't know HOW to tackle this giant corrupt illuminus beast. protesting doesn't seem to do much good, as people have been at it for years, and its not gotten them very far, except blasted with water cannons, cuffed and thrown in jail by the beast's own private security team. besides, people can't replace a corrupt system if they have NOTHING to replace it with. nothings' changed in Egypt.
Hey RT, could you guys start boosting your audio levels a bit for your YouTube videos? Or give me a job as an audio post tech since I live near D.C. and could use a job right about now!
Hey anyone can get painted up like a pelvic laborer and read the news, doesn’t make you special or your opinion mean anything. I’m just wondering with all the better looking credentialed out of work people out there how you manage to keep your undeserved position. Why not do the right thing resign give all your ill-gotten material goods to charity and join the peace corps?
Once again, you insult the nerds because they are spending, like, 3 days (the average number of days a con runs) just having fun.
Yeah, this isn't an apology at all. Why don't you sell that pretty dress of yours to help feed the homeless or something, Miss We-Should-Not-Spend-Money-On-Trinkets?
@popcornyogurt1 it's also that she was very rude during the interview. to all the people kissing Kristine's ass, we arent just mad because of THAT QUESTION. Life isnt all about economy and government and shit. It's 'useless' to you, but its fun to us. Imagine giving up a trip to disneyland or a ticket to your favorite singer or band. Would you rather sit outside the White House for 5 hours in the hot sun or actually take a break from life?
@ThePunktaku why are you offended?? maybe you need to try to cultivate you sense of critical analysis instead of being offended by free form critical analysis...
Such a mature, responsible news reporter! "#haterswillbehaters"? Really?
Grow the fuck up. You said something uncalled for, biased, and offensive to a large portion of people. There is no "Haters gonna hate!" about it. The only truth here is: You're a total bitch who doesn't deserve her job.
How about you sell your nice clothes and donate some of that money to charity or our economy, sweetie?
I'm sorry, but what do you do to help out? Do you go and protest in Washington? Volunteer at homeless shelters? Give hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars to charity? Maybe if you spent less money on the horribly fashioned dresses you wear, getting highlights done, the products for your hair, all of the make-up you buy, then you'd actually be able to practice what you preach. Don't hate on the people who actually go all out for something to have fun. You don't know what they do outside this.
Not that she doesn't have valid points . . . because I'm one of the few people barely getting by . . . but it's still no excuse for her to say what other people should be doing as opposed to what they are doing.
Does she have any logical thought at all? The economy has no conscious thought. If you protest the economy, the economy will not change. You CAN, however protest against the guides of the economy, meaning either the Fed or the Treasury Department, both of which are essentially the same people, just some work for the gov't and some don't.
Her beef is obviously with how people spend their free time. because their money is going to the same industries, whether they fly to D.C. and stay in hotels and eat at restaurants while they protest, or whether they fly to SD and stay in hotels and eat at restaurants while they enjoy themselves.
Some people don't feel righteous anger is any more beneficial than malevolent anger. Nothing will save the economy anyway. It's built on fractional reserve banking...
I just had to roll my eyes at the fact that you actually posted "hatersgonnabehaters" on Twitter. Are you 5 years old? You are part of the disease that is killing journalism. How about you donate half your salary to charity, or sell your awful wardrobe, or skip a hair appointment. Oh, and while you are at it, you may want to go visit a proctologist, your head seemed to be lodged in your ass.
@Frost87112 assume that if you address the real problems, do not drink alcohol, do not go to parties, not watching TV, do not play sports ... just spend the day meditating on how to solve real problems ...
would be interesting to see what she thinks of the millions of dollars spent by British in things Chelsea FC ... ah sorry, is that the Chelsea owner is Russian, there does not matter, there are not nerds or anything ...
lol at the bunch of otakus, weeaboos and ranrom weirdos who can get insulted by something said by Kristine regarding to your country's situation .. gosh .. she never attacked your nerds convention ... she just raised such question because some anime n' shit can gather more people than your real problems... and ye... americunts are too retarded to get it.
also who can send hate stuff to Kristine.... shes a babe lol
@Frost87112 for you others are something like an inferior race, to dedicate part of our salaries we earn with hard work and sacrifice, a diversion that disconnects us from the real problems, oh sorry, from now dedicate my life to not fun and only address real problems, probably when I die, this cheerful if it had not enjoyed my life
Are you guys fucking retarded? She isn't attacking comic-con, she's criticizing the fact that so many people show up to a convention based upon comic books and fake shit when there's a bigger problem in reality that is the fucked up economy due to the banks and politicians. If these 100,000 people took the time to create a protest against the banks and politicians then change would happen.
You didn't answer the question about the Super Bowl. Would you also suggest that devout sports fans quit spending hundreds of dollars to see their favorite teams play or stop going to signings and meet-and-greets with the teams? How is dropping $500 on a signed baseball any different from buying a limited-edition figurine? Why don't you go after the NFL or any other corporately-owned organizations that put on sports games, concerts and events, instead of targeting one 4-day comic convention?
long story short: Dumb bitch thinks comicon rises out of the ground magically and all the money spent there goes into a giant furnace, It's not like spending money doesn't stimulate the local economy, and really how much money does protesting raise? none.
Why don't the people who sell the dresses give it to charities? God knows they have more than we do.
Better yet, why don't you give them money instead of buying that new hat you want?
99% of homeless people spend their donations on beer anyway.
Completely retarded and idiotic comment. Why don't you attack a corrupt billionaire or someone who actually deserves some criticism? Not everyday working men and women looking to have some fun on a vacation.
With the original interview, she won half of united states worth in people who hates her, now those haters are buying their geeky chainsaws and planning to pay her a visit.
Because money spent on food, hotels and shit won't somehow figure into the economy of the nation, and nothing bought or sold at the con itself will either. All the money just magically disappears.
This chick is a complete retard, apparently comic-con and charitable work are entirely exclusive. The fact that she HAD to address all the hate and that the "hate" was literally people making sound arguments against her stupidity is dumbfounding as well. This women should certainly not have a job. Dumb fucking broad.
This isn't a personal attack... then why did you just reiterate your point that "it's comic books and cosplay that draws 100,000 people out in this country, not homelessness/economic struggles"?
@Solera129 Oh boy, the Americans are just too stupid to understand what's happening to their country. And instead of informing themselves and protesting against the fact that America is becoming an absolute shithole, they rather dress up as comic heroes. You know what, stupid people like that actually deserve what's coming.
So what if it's comic books and cosplay that draws a crowd? How is that different from ANY other event that gets a ton of attendees? You're completely missing the point of our complaints, and continuing to attack nerds (a term I use for myself with pride, mind you) for spending money on the things we like. As others have pointed out, why not point to the audience of a sporting event and say, "Hey, you shouldn't be here, you should be protesting and being aware of issues!"? Don't be a hypocrite.
... Failing to see how intelligent people can enjoy a wide range of interests is unintelligent. Assuming that these 'geeks' do not contribute to the social and economic problems of your country and then world is unintelligent. Criticizing others for their hobbies while you sit there with your diamond necklace and pretty dresses makes you just ignorant. What are your hobbies Kristine? Care to detail to the viewers where your money goes? You're ignorant and rude and seem to be a 'hater' yourself.
Listen up Kristine...this video was again a backhanded insult. You say that these people go to Comic Con and spend all of this money, while 'hard working intelligent people' must choose between paying bills...insinuating, it would seem, that Comic Con people are not intelligent and hard working. I don't know what sort of people you associate with, but I will tell you my 'geek' friends are more intelligent than most people I know. Liking comics doesn't make a person unintelligent. ...
The upset comes from the fact that yes, we could all point fingers and lay blame. How much does this reporter give to charity? If the answer isn't "as much as she possibly can?" then you can turn her line of questioning right back around to her. Also, those tweets aren't hateful, they just ask questions that aren't easy to answer if you're taking a shaky moral high ground. It's easy to blame calm, clear arguments on hatred of the individual, because it's much harder to actually engage with them.
I don't know this lady. I've never seen her. Perhaps she is on cable. I had to choose between cable and an internet, and I chose my computer. (my rebuilt piece of junk computer that a friend keeps rebuilding with rubber bands and string.) Anyway, I didn't know there was a controversy so it didn't take up my time. Perhaps it is a tempest in a tea pot. Forget it. Enjoy your convention if you wish. Donate to charity when you can. Live your life!

Kristine, while I think maybe you could've worded your question better I wouldn't bother apologizing or continuing this with a bunch of kids. A lot of them don't even understand the technicalities of the situations were all in that something needs to be done.
I do admire your strong sense of justice and good will, so I'm sure you donate to charities too. But I'm afraid it's going to take life to slap people with the harshness of the situation. They'll probably understand sooner or later then.
I don't know who is worse: the one who "knows better" what people should be doing with their time and money, or the other, who not just care to answer to that, but actually said: "You have a point"
The real problem was that Victoria wasn’t stumped by your irrelevant questions. This clearly undermined the predetermined intent of the interview, which was not, as you imply, to remind people of the bad economy, but rather to showcase that you’re a serious news journalist, whose worthy of more “important” stories than this. So when you didn’t hear what you wanted out of Victoria you simply cut her off. That, coupled with your condescending attitude, is why you got hate mail. Stop twisting it!
Ingenious “apology”! Not only did you sidestep the real reason people were upset with you, you spun it, rather brilliantly, to make it seem as though their ire was the result of that question. This, of course, makes you seem like a victim who’s just trying to make a difference in the world while the selfish brats from Comic-Con don’t want to face reality. And since most people won’t even search for the original video they’ll have no context to dispute you. You truly are a master of manipulation!
According to whendidyoujointwitter(.)com , she has only had the account since August 2008 . . So she already is trying to over-exaggerate and be misleading right off the bat.
She has only been working at this organization for a few years and before that was fired from every network she's worked for; including NBC, Fox, and CNN. San Diego NBC has gone out of it's way to delete every single article associated with her.
WE ARE ALL GUILTY FOR NOT GIVING EVERY EXTRA PENNY WE HAVE TO PROTEST! LOSE ALL HOBBY AND INTERESTS! GET OFF YOUR COMPUTER AND SELL IT AND FLY TO DC! FRAZ WILL BE PROTESTING WITH YOU? SELL YOUR PANTS TOO! JUST SHOW UP NAKED
She could have just as well said that if people are made to become conscious of their feelings of guilt they don't like that feeling and it gets them to make up all sorts of distractions in an attempt to avoid, reject and deny that feeling.
It's not an apology. She added a 'but' at the end which makes it invalid and pathetic. Her questions are understandable, yes charities are good and participating in the political system is great and people should be encouraged to do both. However, she should direct these questions at every single person who has ever taken a vacation or gone to a sports event, convention, party, or even held a hobby and be much less hostile about it. There is no reason to single out Comic-con attendees.
@iwontupload It's not a valid question at all. Everyone spends a lot of money on their hobbies, but you don't see her going after the people who buy season tickets for football, do you? Now quit trolling.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The ridiculous reaction she's getting actually affirms that the opinions she had were correct. This is the kind of overreaction you would typically expect from people who are guilt-driven.
yes it is a good point that so many people do not take a more active role in government and social injustice. But do not act like geeks are the biggest offenders in this. do we want to bring up how much "normal people" spend on weddings or a sports skybox? how many "normal people" followed the NFL lockout over the current debt ceiling crisis? so yes.. everybody could do better, but do not point us out and say we are the worst wasters of time and money just because you do not like what we like
If you really wanted to apologize for offending viewers, the title of this video would be "Kristine Frazao apologizes for offending people on twitter." The fact that you referred to people expressing their opinions as "haters" shows that you don't validate their feelings. You are the one who targeted a group for their hobby and accused them of being financially and socially irresponsible. You are the hater.
Her defense about the amount of people drawn to the convention in our bad economy, doesn't negate any of the arguments posed by offended viewers. There are still more people spending money on sporting events nationwide, year-round than at the annual comic conventions and it is still unreasonable to criticise someone for going on vacation.
@camivette I agree. People should not you some issue (here comic book convention) as a media leverage any way they want.. that is in an unreasonable manner.
There are very bad sins in the world and compared to them a comic book convention is hardly one. :)
If she's so concerned about the economy and the homeless, she can donate half her salary to any number of charitable causes. I'm sure she makes enough to survive on a humble diet of bread, water, and rice while providing food and shelter for all the unfortunates.
People that believe there's something wrong with her question need a reality check. I understood perfectly what she meant which is, "Why do people gather by the thousands for entertainment but don't rise up and show up in Washington to defend their future and freedoms? Good fucking question indeed.
She's not implying that none should entertain themselves in these times, shes just asking why show for the less important and not also show for the critically important. There you go.
@AndyviousTV It's a fallacy though. She's assuming that if people go to a comic convention they don't support charities, when there's an overlap. Heck, multiple charities have booths at NYCC and I always like to give donations to them whenever I'm there. I pride myself on knowing what's going on in politics. I spend 361 days a year paying attention to the news; let me spend my 4 day vacation the way I want to.
the reason america has become such a banana republic with so much social injustice is because so many people would rather retreat into fantasy worlds or engage in activities like comic con rather than face all of these problems created by the international banks and corporations which control our government
get out of your fantasy worlds and take back your government from the inhumane international banks which cause the social injustice
Gee, that's a nice dress. Say, why did you buy a dress, when you could have sent that $70+ to a charity? Yeah, this world is shit and there are terrible things happening in it, but if you want to do something you enjoy with your hardearned money, then why not? Hundreds of thousands of people are aware of the crap things happening too, but we can't be expected to not enjoy ourselves if we have the means - and this is coming from someone who is in a household that is barely getting by as it is.
I have loved comics and this kind of stuff for years, but I don't waste much time and money on them these days. We have more important things to worry about and comiccon is just a place for dress up posers you sell their crap now, it is not for real comic fans anyways.
People prefer to remain loyal to their delusions rather than reality. That's why the Tweet at 1:33 called her "intolerant", like it was racism to attack people who dress up in costumes pretending to be a fictional character. Also the fact that this video has more dislikes than likes shows how out of touch these people are. They don't see the SHTF soon and their costumes aren't going to protect them from it. You could have used that money to buy some gold and silver, you fools.
Right, so the club I'm in which collects donations for needy children to buy them gifts that their parents can't afford...is a complete waste of time and is in NO WAY going to helping people in need. And it's in no way helping our economy, is it?
Nice report...its a good point to bring up that Americans are far too relaxed to protest the bull we are subjected to...entirely too easy to dress adults up in stupid costumes, spend a fortune on nfl, movies, concerts etc etc. The issue isn't that Americans should not have fun, rather the issue rests simply on the fact that few people attempt to change the bull government. Taking responsibility before play/leisure behooves every adult citizen.
America is crumbling and everyone just wants good time.
@19vendetta19 So what have you done to improve the country? You are missing to meat of her argument. She is trying to dictate what we should be doing with our time and money. I don't see her asking the people to join her in a protest. She seems to what others to do it for her.
You obviously missed the memo where nerds actually stick up for each other now. Obviously you missed the reports about Baby Leah, Little Katie. Especially Star Wars fans...you should study up more before you do reports like this :)
My Question is...Why single out Comic con? What about going to see a movie? Going to a day at say Disneyland? Or any other kind of entertainment we enjoy? Isnt THAT useless money spent while people go hungry and loose their jobs??
Actually, I can see it from both sides. It isn't that it is or is not a logical argument. It is a valid question. Its just that it is asking the things in the wrong way.
A better way of raising the point, for instance..would be to mention that if more people would stand up about the issues at large instead of just focusing on sports, conventions..and so on...
@NichiStateum they would have even more money to enjoy these things with..which would encourage more of the like to spring up not just in a few big cities but all across the country. This would be a big win for everyone.
The question was more "Why are people focused on entertainment when the economy is so bad? Shouldn't we be focusing on things that are going to have a huge impact on us?" Think of it also, that many just tend to jump and go "OMG they're bashing us!" No. Everyone...just chill.
If this source is so concerned about the homeless, why bring Comic Con into it at all? The issues are unrelated. You want people to organize? How about taking action yourselves instead of sitting behind your comfy desk in your air conditioned studio? How about a worthy piece of news? I read many responses to this with the things they actually DO to help, and this rebuttal is incredibly condescending in the face of that.
She didn't actually give a shit about issues, she just made the story so she could have an opportunity to rant about nerds. Fucking transparent bitch.
This isn't an apology. Apologies aren't confrontational in nature, as the title is so apt to describe the video. Fact: RT is state-funded by the Russian government. Coincidence, then, that all of the RTAmerica "reports" seek out the most sensationalist, anti-American crap they can find? Not just anti-gov, but anti-people. This article paints the people in a negative light for going to Comic Con? Give me a break. In Russia they can't even criticize their own government. Police state? Get a mirror
@therealCamoron You're criticizing RT for spewing anti-American propaganda while at the same time ALL mainstream tv channels in America are producing anti-muslim, anti-russian, anti-chinese and anti-european propaganda. Give me a fucking break you hypocrite.
there are hundreds of thousands of people coming out to protest political things, obviously you missed the point of the tea parties coming out to protest the currently political climate, while you may not agree with their stand (or you might but your liberal political bias is showing) they still came out, so your point about people coming out to protest is invalid. also..you do a horrible job apologizing, you came off as condescending and patronizing. You also missed the point that Victoria made
It's still insulting, You're not asking why hobbies or general fun activities brings people together rather than the harsh times, you, in a belittling way target comic con.
Would you rather spend $1,000 doing something you enjoy, or spend it going to Washington to protest, and probably get tased, and kicked and beaten by thugs. I mean cops?
Still insulting the people that attend Comic Con. Just cause you think your popularity is at risk, don't give us the "It's just another way of looking at things" crap! Please, stop the double talk and stick to your guns. Would she ask the same of a person that goes to the Olympics or how about the U2 concert, that is sweeping across the nation? What is being said about giving Bono our hard earn money? DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T GO! Spend your money the way you want and I will do the same.
She's assuming that comic con attendees don't ALSO have issues that they care about and work towards. The two are not exclusive. You can go to comic con AND care about society. Clearly this "journalist" was just looking for attention/video hits. It worked.
@atarbet She isn't assuming they dont also have issues with them. She is saying that as many people that have issues with politics never get out there and do anything about it. Her point in the end was that 100k+ people will go to a convention, but they won't go the streets when it matters.
What's that? Is that the smell of bullshit? Why yes. Why yes it is. I think it was hilarious how she seemed to specify the difference between convention goers and "hardworking intelligent people" near the end there. And randomly throwing in big banks and companies in there. Kind of veering from the subject at hand, aren't you? Nice try, lady, but you're still a dumbfuck.
You are a lying whore lady. You can't even pronounce the fucking terms. Cosie-play. Serious? Yeah sure you attended for several years. My ass. You are a huge tool and you make RT look like jackasses. You deserve all the hate you get.
@xIzayaKunx: Go fuck yourself you brown nosing cunt. This stupid bitch has done three stories on the convention and tried to guilt trip a group of people for a hobby. She can take her ivory tower and shove it up her ass and so can you.
You know, you're the sort of people that make me wish the economy would collapse sooner. Then perhaps once you find out that there's no money to be found, you'll finally figure out you should've set your priorities out better. I'm ashamed in humans for having such bad judgement.
I mean Hobby or Not, I don't think you realise the dilerma were in. Shame.
@xIzayaKunx: Yeah says the asshole with anime plastered all over his youtube page claiming he's from Japan. Sure sure bro. Stop trying to lay this guilt shit on people who have a fucking hobby. If you're so damned concerned with the economy why are you on the internet commenting on youtube videos? Cut your internet and use the money you save per month to feed the homeless. You play games? Go to movies? Buy music? Then by your own logic you're a horrible human being who is utterly selfish

GoodnightMoon15 7 months ago
I'm sorry, but what do you do to help out? Do you go and protest in Washington? Volunteer at homeless shelters? Give hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars to charity? Maybe if you spent less money on the horribly fashioned dresses you wear, getting highlights done, the products for your hair, all of the make-up you buy, then you'd actually be able to practice what you preach. Don't hate on the people who actually go all out for something to have fun. You don't know what they do outside this.

The biggest fail:
"protest the economy"
Does she have any logical thought at all? The economy has no conscious thought. If you protest the economy, the economy will not change. You CAN, however protest against the guides of the economy, meaning either the Fed or the Treasury Department, both of which are essentially the same people, just some work for the gov't and some don't.
TinyMachines 7 months ago
@TinyMachines

Liking comics doesn't make a person unintelligent. ...
FuZzyP1nKd3AtH 7 months ago 3
The upset comes from the fact that yes, we could all point fingers and lay blame. How much does this reporter give to charity? If the answer isn't "as much as she possibly can?" then you can turn her line of questioning right back around to her. Also, those tweets aren't hateful, they just ask questions that aren't easy to answer if you're taking a shaky moral high ground. It's easy to blame calm, clear arguments on hatred of the individual, because it's much harder to actually engage with them.

Rainydaypunk 7 months ago 3
Ingenious “apology”! Not only did you sidestep the real reason people were upset with you, you spun it, rather brilliantly, to make it seem as though their ire was the result of that question. This, of course, makes you seem like a victim who’s just trying to make a difference in the world while the selfish brats from Comic-Con don’t want to face reality. And since most people won’t even search for the original video they’ll have no context to dispute you. You truly are a master of manipulation!

Her defense about the amount of people drawn to the convention in our bad economy, doesn't negate any of the arguments posed by offended viewers. There are still more people spending money on sporting events nationwide, year-round than at the annual comic conventions and it is still unreasonable to criticise someone for going on vacation.

Oukamikaze 7 months ago 3
Actually, I can see it from both sides. It isn't that it is or is not a logical argument. It is a valid question. Its just that it is asking the things in the wrong way.
A better way of raising the point, for instance..would be to mention that if more people would stand up about the issues at large instead of just focusing on sports, conventions..and so on...
NichiStateum 7 months ago
@NichiStateum they would have even more money to enjoy these things with..which would encourage more of the like to spring up not just in a few big cities but all across the country. This would be a big win for everyone.
The question was more "Why are people focused on entertainment when the economy is so bad? Shouldn't we be focusing on things that are going to have a huge impact on us?" Think of it also, that many just tend to jump and go "OMG they're bashing us!" No. Everyone...just chill.
NichiStateum 7 months ago
If this source is so concerned about the homeless, why bring Comic Con into it at all? The issues are unrelated. You want people to organize? Get over yourself. It's a freaking convention for God's sake.
