i have noticed there is a student under there... on drugs, unaware of his actions, trying to stand up and having assualted a police officer minutes before. your looking at a video claiming police brutality and excessive force while ignoring the background to the story, i am unsure if you are aware of the effects drugs can have upon the nervous system, they could have shot him and he wouldnt have felt it till he woke up, remember he went to the hospital with minor scrapes and bruises.

the steps they took will most likely be the best they could do under the circumstances, had they not taken him down and used REASONABLE FORCE to subdue him with the knowledge they had, he may well 'injured or killed'

The issue started when the student took over an office of a professor. It sounded as if some kid's toy was taken away and he had called his parents to take care of 'business'. There was no need to call city officers when there were already some at campus. There could have been an understanding between the parties and the conclusion would have been much better and less public and humiliating for the university
Clearly, in the video it shows that he was being beaten by the officer's there with him. At any point they could have taken his hands, and arrested him. So they kept punching him, he goes mad, and gets upset, still trys to refuse, a BEATING, they turn around and call it an arrest, now it seems he refused to get arrested, and on top of that, they try to charge him with hitting an officer back, affter he was punched numerous times in the face, and body.

I'm going to have to say campus police acted correctly in this situation. This man had previously attacked an officer and was clearly unable to control himself, he continued to resist when he was on the ground. People say excessive force was used but as the Director of CP said he did not have any physical injuries.

I was just watching cops on tv. A less educated person was stopped while driving. the person was told they were being detained for a moment and the officer proceeded to cuff the person. At that point, the person broke down. In the end, the person had a $65 fine.

i have noticed there is a student under there... on drugs, unaware of his actions, trying to stand up and having assualted a police officer minutes before. your looking at a video claiming police brutality and excessive force while ignoring the background to the story, i am unsure if you are aware of the effects drugs can have upon the nervous system, they could have shot him and he wouldnt have felt it till he woke up, remember he went to the hospital with minor scrapes and bruises.

just watched video closley to see where the alegid 'punched him in the head 8 times..." happened. cant actually see where any blows to the head happened. there was one officer on the right who you may have though was hitting him in the head but due to the bad video quality it is difficult to see the thin nightstick in his hand, he was striking his shoulder and arm to try get his arm out of the way so they could arrest him.

As a Psych grad I'm flattered you think we're superheroes who can talk down people who have punched cops, but we're not. The right person for that job is a police officer.
And being as it was the 7thand 8th floor, it's almost *guaranteed* that it was people in the Psychology department who phoned the police in the first place.

The issue started when the student took over an office of a professor. It sounded as if some kid's toy was taken away and he had called his parents to take care of 'business'. There was no need to call city officers when there were already some at campus. There could have been an understanding between the parties and the conclusion would have been much better and less public and humiliating for the university

I'm going to have to say campus police acted correctly in this situation. This man had previously attacked an officer and was clearly unable to control himself, he continued to resist when he was on the ground. People say excessive force was used but as the Director of CP said he did not have any physical injuries.

If I was still a student I would want the authorities to detain this individual based on the events that took place before the beating on camera phone.

If this male had done something unlawful to you or your family, wouldn't you want the police to do everything they could to subdue the person? For instance, what if this male had assaulted your mother? Would you want the police to let him go or would you want them to do their job and arrest this person?

you seem to be pretty confident in the idea this was just a sunday stroller who was approached by a swarm of police officers and asked the time of day, i think you forget the suspect had kicked someone out of their office barricaded themselves in the same office all the while on somekind of drug and thinking he was a professor in his own office then had been arrested assualted the arresting officer and run away. he didnt lose his cool under pressure he was off his face and violent

noo, I'm aware of what the news has said. And know about the offices and what not. I still hold my opinion.
But, we don't know if he was on drugs, and, personnally things that happened once the arrest began don't have much importance to me. Keeping in mind my personal opinion is different from law. But, if enough people share my opinion, then perhaps it can be law.
Thank you for being constructively critical though. Can't say that for most critisism on these videos.

Something people need to realize is that people may have different opinions about the same set of facts. In discussing the matter you can let people know about your vantage point and it is very possible that they still wont agree. Repeating your vantage point, or yelling it wont change anything. At that point, we take a vote and majority rules. heh. Afterall whatever comes out of this will be opinion, unlike the tendency for objects to fall when dropped here on earth. IMO heh

I was just watching cops on tv. A less educated person was stopped while driving. the person was told they were being detained for a moment and the officer proceeded to cuff the person. At that point, the person broke down. In the end, the person had a $65 fine.
The problem is. Swarm some one, cuff someone, will NOT get them to calm down. Give them space, let them chill out.

If you google him he was quoted in the school newspaper saying if he had one day to live he'd do ever drug there is, and last year was busted and plead guilty to possession of ecstasty. In this video he's stated as having taken something. This was drug induced, the first of many bad decisions he made.
