EXCELLENT FIND! I remember when this came out ... I was about 12 and I thought it was a HOOT! Thanks so much for the cool contribution. I think of this every time I hear the name 'Ambrose', which is not often! Nicely done.
I used to listen to this tune when WCBS-FM 101.1 played it on Bobby Jay's 'Friday Night 50s' & Sunday's 'Top 20 Countdown'.Those were the days!Good to hear this one again on YouTube! Thanks!
RIP Linda Laurie.17 year old Linda did the man's voice too, without any studio enhancement beyond a bit of echo. Ambrose either smoked a lot of cigarettes, or was -lot- older than the song lets on. So far, the explanations I've found don't quite explain the whole thing. (A veiled reference to pedophilia seems possible , but if so, Ambrose wouldn't've wanted a party at the girl parent's house.)
@lazur1 "Foghorn" voices from kids were not unknown of to audience in the late 50's. Besides Billy "Froggy" Laughlin in the Old Gang series there was George Winslow who was billed as "The Kid with the Foghorn Voice" in many films and TV shows including with Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Monkey Business. So this was done more for comedic affect than anything else and would have been taken at face value as being a deep-voiced youth.
OMG!!! All my life I've only been able to quote all the words about the "wallet" part of the ...... (song) and I have searched and searched for years not able to find anything about it.
I'm so glad I've discovered it here thanks to "freshbagle" posting here. Such quality sound too.

The ending is missing. Also I remember the line, "Oh Ambrose, say something nice and mushy"(meaning sweet). And he says, "Oh shit."

I remember the song having an ending--a train came and took care of Ambrose's, uh, little problem for him....

@Gnillob802 Indeed. I see the reasonable possibility of either intent...or both. After all's said & done, she did the voice because she could.

Thanks for posting--haven't heard this nearly 40 years since the late Murray the K was on the radio--this song was a favorite of his.

This song is rather odd and obscure, but it got a fair amount of air play in late winter of 1959.
