  • Many of the Nazi's were homosexual.

  • thank you so much so beautiful so courageous Love will always prevail

  • So sad.

    NO TO HOMOPHOBIA !

  • Thank you for uploading this. I'm from Germany and have learned about all this in school and from my grandparents, who were children during WWII. My country has a terrible history. You can still visit the concentration camps today. They are museums and graveyards now. We've come a long way. I'm proud to say that we are one of the most liberal countries in the world today.

Were can I find the monument by the way?

  • You should feel proud because you have nothing to be ashamed of. That man took advantage of the collapse of the german economy caused by the First World War.

(The same thing is happening around the world today so we should be wary of history repeating itself.)

I did a bit of research The monument is in Berlin in the 'Memorial Mile'.

I really need to visit Germany and its surrounding countries. I have not excuse it's on my doorstep!

  • wow that was really interesting... ty for this

  • thank you for the vid. i learned a lot

  • wow I had no idea; this viddeo was seriously insightful

  • man how sad. the whole holocaust was a tragedy but i hope we learned from that and hope it never happens again.

  • So youtube hates me tonight, and I think I tried to post the same comment about 50 times with no luck, and now I've lost it from my clipboard.

Now all you're getting is: I hope your noise makers are coming back...or something. =)

  • but when I lose my voice, I post naked fotos on myspace... so which is better? lol

  • haha. That is true. =)

I actually complimented this video in my other comment, and I also said how I enjoyed the color change of the font when it changed tones(is that the right word? lol.)

I also mentioned how I felt uneasy that someone's first name in this is my last name. I know it means nothing, but I'm crazy like that.

Yep...I just regurgitated(wow, I spelled that right on the first try!) my comment that was eaten by my computer.

  • Good vid! You rock..keep being hella amazing!

  • i read really fast... honestly.

text was too fast though. either don't have it scroll (as you have to adjust your eyes) or just slow it down a bit.

    other than that, great vid

  • I know! i realized after I uploaded it. I apologize!

  • thank you so much for making and uploading this

  • Bravo

  • I liked the vid. The scrolling text needed to be a liiittle bit slower, but the information was great. I didn't know about that monument. It's kind of sad looking...

  • I knew gays were put into the camps as well,..but that they weren't recognized as victims at first..that's simply sick. Thanks for this video!

  • Where is the monument?

  • The Monument is in Berlin near by central station towards the Column of victory.

  • This history should be taught to all people.

I truly believe that if the general public were more knowledgeable about what gays have been through, they would be more supportive of our rights.

  • Thank you for this videos. I didnt know this side of the Holocaust and now I am glad I do. It makes this fight for equality that much more important

  • Thank you for this video. I've studied the Holocaust for quite a few years, and i'm glad that you posted this. You showed a side of the Holocaust that most people don't really talk about. Everyone always thought it was just Jews who were murdered..but it was also gays, mental, and physically disabled people. Thank you Mara for this.

  • This is very true -- there were a lot of people killed during this time - not just the more than 6 mil. jews... It's crazy what Hitler did and to believe that some people don't think it happened.

  • Dude that was a great great video.

  • thank you.

  • That was really moving. This is one part of queer history that I was vaguely aware of, but I never really knew anything about it. Thank you.

  • Powerful and true. Queer history is full of suffering , death, and social outcasting.

    I love our triangle!

  • Thanks for the post. It was very good.

  • Well done, I am moved to tears. Haven't seen Bent, but I can recommend "A Love to Hide" it is an excellent film.

  • I'll have to check it out - I really want to see Bent also. I've only seen Paragraph 175

  • This was brilliant.

I recently watched the movie Bent, and I recommend it for anyone else who is interested in the subject of gay treatment during WWII. I'm glad someone else is bringing this issue to light.

It's bad enough what was done to them, but the fact that they weren't even considered victims is just horrifying, and that it took until 2005 for their voices to be heard just makes me so ashamed of the human race.

  • Well great video.Latest news the stone memorial was vandalize. The window in front was broken. In June this year Drag Kings in Berlin- Kreuzberg attacked by some people. The actors are very brutality, some of the victims are in hospital right now.Sorry because my english is not so very good but i think it´s understandable. greats to america from Chris

  • OMG -- really??!

thank you for the insight -- I guess it goes to show that nothing ever really changes.

  • oh mara you have a voice it might not be audible this second but its definitely there and i hear it...thank you for this

  • Amazing video! Pretty powerful. I know the Jewish population was the main target during the Holocaust but we often forget about gays and other minorities that were persecuted. Thanks for this!

  • great video. i wonder what my star would have looked like- a triangle and a star of david. i'm really thankful for the monumement and this video.

  • I know mine would've been a pink upside down triangle with a right side up gold triangle -- creating a star of david out of the two triangles (if that makes sense).

  • Wow. Yea, something about reading that in my own voice in my head made it hit much deeper.

Thanks for putting information out there that I would have probably never gotten in school.

  • Sorry about your voice. I know it wasn't your intention, but the audio and visual that you provided created a more powerful message than any spoken word could ever have. We hope you are feeling better soon.

    *hugs*

    Ryan and Jen

  • Very sad video. I hope your voice gets better soon Mara.

I've wondered about this for a while now but never heard any real information on homosexuals during this time.

  • Thank you for this video. I have to say in the back of my mind I though how odd it was that you had no voice while doing a video giving a voice to so many that had their voices taken away in such a horrible historic event.

  • wow I didn't think of it that way. hmm... wow. I guess that makes this video more powerful than I intended.

    thank you.
