im planning on doing the same gears, i got an 04 ram 5.7 4x4 reg. cab short bed. i did cam heads exhaust 2in drop in the rear an unning on a superchips tune at the moment. 3000 stall converter is coming soon as well as 4.56 gears an detroit lockers fron an rear...if all goes well with that see where i am in the 1/4 i may start playing with my suspension, do rear soft down hard up so the truck squats an grips at the track...nice set up my man.
My 2001 Dodge truck just seems gutless... You think the gear would change that? Its a 5.7, 4x4, '01, reg. cab, long box, and it just sounds like a big fan, doesn't even have a cool sound like urs, what you suggest to do?
Whats up dude, hey I actually had two questions, hope its not too much... What RPM are you at when your cruising at 70? And how did it effect your gas mileage? Reason I ask is because i cant decide between 4.10 and 4.56 and gas mileage is my only concern, THANKS!!!
At 70 the rpm's are around 2300 or so, not bad at all. As far as gas mileage goes Highway seemed to stay about the same and city mileage went up around 2 mpg. The truck barely works to stay at speed, these gears should have been in these trucks from the factory. Go 4.56.
forget the 6.1 cam.....There is so much better out there. Visit inertia motorsports on the web and talk to 392STU about cam selection. He can provide the tuning according to your selection.
The top end is still much faster then I will want to go in a 4x4 on mud tires... The OD ratio is around .67 so theoretically it would not top out until well over 150 mph.
it was just shy of 2 grand when it was all said and done. 650 or so for gears and install kits, about 900 for the install, I ran top of the line fluids front and rear for both the break in and after, so that was easily 200+ I also put on a PML diff cover so the swap could be done cheaper but I wanted to go all out. Yes its a 4x4.
