  • good DAMNED take some beating

  • Gone but never forgotten by those of us who happily lived through the greatest musical revolution in history. Poly 1957-2011

  • RIP Poly Styrene

  • POLY FUCKING STYRENE!!! Haven't stopped listening to the "Germ Free Adolescent" album since yesterday!!!

  • Quite possibly the best punk song ever...

  • One of my Facebook friends from England just told me that Poly Styrene just announced that she has breast cancer

  • @TheZanyMind I did'nt hear about that. If it's true , maybe early detection is on her side , as we all need to be , on her side.

  • @pfordsq - It's true, plus Poly Styrene is on my Facebook also, she has a new album coming out in a few weeks

  • @TheZanyMind Hi , I don't even remember what my comment was , and I have to go out , so , after checking 3 or 4 pages , I have to put that on the back burner. But the cartoon of Poly at the beginning appeared in Roctober magazine , originally. I read about the new album , and some upcoming solo shows. Time has been good to her songs , and to her. She looks like a goddamned GODDESS. Sorry , just sayin'.

  • yeahhhhhh!

  • this song is bitchin' XD

  • fck those saxes.. otherwice awesome song :P

  • one of the best alltime songs ever.

  • One of the best early Punk tunes...Day-Glo 1978...Surfing, Smoking, Drinking and PUNK at 13 years old...Such a beautiful melody...

  • magic magic magic..ace

  • Did you forget Eve Libertine and Joy De Vivre? Hope not, mate....don't leave 'em out of your biography there!-------->

  • Fabulous strong women.... Thanks for giving us the credit we deserve.

  • real men like real women

  • My God I love her so much

  • Anybody else noticed the messed up sky lately? The London sky is 100% aerosol.. not too many people seem to have noticed. The world has indeed turned day glo... Look UP.

  • I think you may be right i ate some dog tranquilisers the other day and i saw strange flashing lights and heard invisible helicopters in my head

  • make one with a sharpie marker and some lipstick you steal from the drugstore

  • very early go go's (pre records) is great!!!! they did walking in the sand and it was amazing.

  • i have a tape of the go go's

i made at club 88. my girlfriend jaris worked there, and would record groups for me form behind the bar. they do around 15 song's, and i got in a huge arguement with belinda, and jane that elisa and margo should not have been fired....then they left for england. the rest is history. but Poly has to be my all time genius songwriter for the scene.

  • @chunk1969 I agree. She was still in her teens , and , in my opinion , writing the best lyrics of anyone at that time. Her keen sense of melodicism is remarkable , too. She also had great dress sense. You'll note that I mentioned that last , but , it bears mentioning.

  • wish i was 18 agane good times good bands

  • without doubt one of the best punk bands of the seventies.

  • I was a Southside Catholic Kid that Hated Everything, these songs took me far far away.

  • Those were the dayz....!! When girls were really important in music!

  • 1978, that was 30 years ago! Fuck, I'm getting old! - We had some great music back then though didn't we? - thankfully it wasn't all disco in the late 70s!

  • where's Nina Hagen ??

  • Poly had a great voice I feel we should give her alot of credit

that band had there say in the punk movement of the 70's

she is right up there with johnny rotten. Poly is right up there with Siouxie , Debbie Harry, and Chrissy H. Very famous

women that broke ground for the music business.

  • John Peel played this song several times in the early 80's - it's great to hear it again - thanks!

  • this came out in 1978, not the 80`s

  • Im so glad wendy o williams got a mention !

  • The fact that most people see Sid Vicious as the early British punk icon rather than Poly Styrene is a testament to the stupidy of the human race

  • I hear that!

  • Amen

  • This is very nicely done. A lot of "Photos set to music" collages I've seen are'nt very interesting , but , I can't say that , here. Lots of bright colors and cool graphics. But , the photo that was listed as Pauline Murray from Penetration is actually the singer from the early French Punk band , Stinky Toys.

  • Thanks! The magazine I sourced it from had the wrong caption, and it's too late for me to change the frame.

  • there would have been a problem if there was no wendy o williams in that slide show!

  • Kleenex for breakfast!

  • Evo Stick and Buckfast those were the days lol

  • Great montage! What about the Modettes?

  • There are multiple parts. Punk 70s video = "X-RAY SPEX -DAY THE WORLD TURNED DAY-GLO". Late 70s-early 80's PostPunk = "LiLiPUT -EISIGER WIND". 80s Punk= "KLEENEX- KRIMI/YOU". New Wave and others will follow.

The Modettes are in the PostPunk video, check it out!

  • I'm on my way...thanks!

  • Goose bumps all over 5*****

  • We still do this number now and we're a rock band. So you can imagine how versatile I am! Sometimes I sing "the day the world turned dolie"

  • Blow that sax muther fucker!

  • poly!

  • I almost thought you were gonna leave Wendy O out. Scared me for a second. :)

  • riiiiiiiiiiot GRRRRRRRL!!!!!

  • Nice vid. I never would've guessed that was Pauline Murray at 1:01, doesn't look like her at all.

  • OMG! Brilliance! I love it! Gah!

  • abzolute wickid zonggggg

  • Love the Chrissie with Bleached Blonde hair pix. Definitely a rarity.

  • That was awesome! You put so many great punk women there!! Loved it!

  • It was not Lara logic, but Lora logic.

  • Ah well, you can't win 'em all. My intensions are good.

  • Thanx for inspiring vid and the memories...

  • hey you've forgotten Jo Squillo's "Kandeggina Gang" (1979-1982)a band from Italy.

  • though the fucking hippies claimed to have ushered in women's rights (among other things including having freed society blah blah blah), hippy chics did little more than get stoned and laid. this video demonstrates how truly liberating punk was and how brilliant women were in it.

  • It was a long struggle, and still ongoing. Check out my "Sweet Linda Divine -I'll Say It Again" video for a bigger overview. The Punks get their moment in that one, too.

  • check this out! love it

  • Thanks for the flashback to when music was creative and good!!!

  • did anyone remember ''girls at our best?''

  • yes. girls at our best ...go for gold or something. They were from leeds I believe.

  • way awesome. wendy o williams is my hero. i admire all these women. Brody Dalle of the Distillers said in an interview that her two main influences are Wendy O and poly styrene. The distillers cover patti smith's ask the angels

  • i ment suburban lawns.........doh!

  • Suburban Lawns made it into the sequel video, "LiLiPUT -EISIGER WIND (1981)". The latter half of this one is more PostPunk, and that sequel is even more of them. Tell your friends and fiends!

  • Brilliant! please post more!

  • See the new sequel video, "LiLiPUT -EISIGER WIND (1981)"! It covers many of the PostPunk women who pioneered the riot grrrl, electronica, industrial, dance punk, and goth music of today.

  • Hey wait a minute... I just realised!!

    Where were Ludus?

  • Very good! I have Linder Sterling and her art in the "Sweet Linda Divine -I'll Say It Again" video. Her barbed commentary shows how Punk was another progression in women's struggle for equity. Check out the new PostPunk video, "Liliput -Eisiger Wind", which will be up very soon!

  • Yeh this vid is great for finding exciting bands. I can't think of any1 that you missed out. even Liliput and delta 5 were on there.

  • they forgot the subburbon kawns

  • Awesome fan vid an Siouxsie is my goddess.

  • What an awesome tribute.

Poly Styrene has a totally unmatched voice.

    Thank you.
