lol, it just means you were fucked over and your dvd doesnt match your console.

DVD drive and motherboard are married to each other. Put another dvd drive from another xbox and it will read movies and cds. no games. Gotta hack the xbox inorder to get the dvd key/cpu key. Then you have to flash the correct dvd key to the drive. Then you can choose to either go back to stock firmware or just leave it hacked =)

@tyiphius - Spot on. Though if the drive is the original. There are two tweek pots on the laser of these drives. One is for reading DVDs and the other is for reading Games. The one for reading Games can be adjusted when required.

@andrey9t2 i havent yet, but i was told to take it apart and rap it in tin foil and slowly cook it in an oven at a lowish temp. so it would melt the broke fuses back together

Remove your hard drive and try to play a game with it out, if it reads, put your hard drive in and clear the system cache. If that doesn't work, delete netflix data and/or any unneeded items from the top of the "delete suggestions" list. If that doesn't work, LOL.

I guess you could also try deleting the system updates if you don't care for xbox live.

@andrey9t2 There could just be a problem with your disc drive, and unless you want to crack your xbox open and try to fix it yourself, I would just send it to microsoft, or a local repair shop if your warranty is expired.

did you replace ur dvd drive? if u did you lost the dvd key that supposed to match with your motherboard... thats why it only reads cd's

@bicho80233 each motherboard and DVD drive has a Key. if it doesnt match then it wont play xbox 360 games.

if you don't have you're old dvd drive then you're screwed the only way to retrieve it is to Jtag it.

try clearing catch thing go to memory and then press y on your memory drive and then click clear catch thing it deletes all last downloaded i thik like updates but you can just download it agien try that or look on the xbox live website

The most common cause of this error is when you open up your XBOX and insert a different drive without changing the PCB board from the drive. The motherboard and the drive are married with encrypted codes required to play games. If you havent updated your xbox system lately then you can mod it. or if you have the old drive switch the boards on it.

not too much help but i played around with 2 xboxs, one with rrod and this same exact disc reading problem and a good working one. It has nothing to do with wires i have tried switching 4 in and out of the good xbox... still same results. But I can assure you that at least half of the problem is the disk drive itself because i moved it from one xbox to another. Hope i helped a little.

Just had this problem. I tried multiple games that it didn't read, then tried a dvd and cd. Both the dvd and cd worked fine, after trying them, my 360 was suddenly reading games again.

If you contact microsoft and tell them that this is happening they will let you send your xbox in and then they will send you back a new one in about a month with a free 1 month xbox live gold card taped to it. I did this before and now, less than a year later im having the same fucking problem. I think im just gonna get a good gaming pc get my steam account up and running again then play tf2 :D

1.take out game

2.turn off council

3.unplug power brick

4.plug it back in

5.turn on system but NOT the controller

6.wait tell it says play game then turn on controler

7.press play game

8.sign in when game is loading

andthey say ps3 is more expensive ive had over 4 xbox elites lets see thats about 1200 dollars been play live for over 3 years i think thats another 160 dollars somewhere around there ps3 same price as an elite had it for over 1 year and a half no problems yet i dont care about the games xbox gets half the time my elite cant read the discs wats the point of buying a system that lasts a couple of months
