Just wonderful! I was recently reading up a bit on Occum, who was a remarkable man. ..but apparently ruthlessly exploited on a fund-raising tour of England, during which we was presented as a type of "Noble Savage." Quite insulting to this well-educated person. He futilely protested the way the funds were (mis)used when they arrived back here. He had really hoped to benefit Native Americans more, and the sons of the wealthy...not so much.
I think I sang it in C here, but you can just put it wherever's comfortable for you. I stuck some verses up in the description for you (there are several more verses, but I think these are best..)
Hey- I think the best way to learn it is by ear. I do have some extra verses (though less singable in my opinion) and somewhere I have a transcription of the music in the 1803 American Musical Miscellany, but it's kind of clunky. Let me know if a transcription of words or music is useful and I'll get it to you somehow...
Nah, you can sing it. "Ecoutee et repetee." beep. I've got music too, from a magazine published in Northampton ca. 1803- let me know if you want it...
Perhaps you could post a video response to my video "My favorite Christmas Carol. What's yours?" here in Youtube. We're collecting people's favorite carols from all over the world to celebrate this Christmas time with everyone!

I really like the version on your cd, but it sounds really damn good with the accompaniment, and your voice is really clear here.

Love this--the tune is so delicate, just so incredible. I want to learn to sing it (but it seems very hard!)

I don't think anyone else sings it- it would be great if they did, although it's not the easiest sing along tune. Glad you like it...
