  • Finally I've took the time to make a simulation worthy of your awesome tutorial... I think :P

  • Thank You very much. :) It worked and I learned about animation recording. Keep up a good work and have a nice day. :)

  • Great. Thank You very much. :) Are there more variants in how to compose ragdoll?

  • very good tutorial, thanks!

  • THX!

  • I got it to work in blender 2.49.2 perfectly, so think before Yo go running Your mouths. Plus this is for an older version of blender and should only be used as an example. But the concept is still the same.

Use the ball setting instead of hinge and mess with the pivot z in constraints, I used 1.50.

    Good tutorial +1

  • Ho is possible! THANK YOU :) YEHA!!!

  • EVERYONE I worked it out. If it doesn't work instead of hinge set it to ball

  • pretty nice!!

  • In 2.49 you can't choose both Rigis Body and Dynamic at the same time. I choose Rigid body, but they do not react as a hinges.

  • im confused, can you include like a blend file link in your description? thanks!

  • how did you get constraints to work in the game engine?

  • 7:18 that hurts xD

  • it wasnt help full because dynamic didnt work but i finally figured out how to make the parts move. other then that good job

  • THIS IS FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE IT FALLS THE WRONG WAY, IT BREAKS APART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KFHUCRDUKJVMUKLDV no insult to you though

  • @benystrider try to get better in blender fist before attempting an advanced tutorial like this.

  • @aegis3d LOL! advanced hahahha

  • @Blender3dvids I said that to scare away the people that are not familiar with functions like grab, scale and rotate :P. If they would try this tutorial they would get frustrated with blender and give up (because I can't be arsed saying "press R to rotate " all the time) , and I don't want that to happen.

  • For some reason when i add a constraint, it doesn't make it ragdoll so much as less than stiff branch from a tree. also, i don't know how to scale it so exactly. please help.

  • Ok, I have a little issue, I have created a rogdoll (not using the tut, but I thought here is a good place to ask) using multiple meshes that make up the body parts and constraints, but obviously the ragdoll is only selectable by selecting all of the parts of the mesh and then moving it, also, I can't copy the ragdoll as all the constraints from the copy ragdoll are parented to the origional ragdoll.

Please can someone suggest what to do :)

  • @Oscarismyname:

I think you work with a newer Version, in which the Logic Panel Looks different.

There should be a Box to choose, where you choose Dynamic.

In the Tutorial there is a Button for Dynamic, in the newer versions you habe to choose from a List which you find where in the Tutorial is the Button "actor"

Hope i helped (sry for Bad english :P )

  • i had the same problem as guythingbob3 (like the name btw) and if you cannot tell us how to do then if anybody else knows please post how

  • can blender import 3d models?

  • obviously

  • just wanted to be sure

  • I followed all the first part of the tutorial, but when i press p to start the game engine, the cubes just stay there. Many other people had the same problem but they never posted solutions. Please help

  • The game engine is updated and it works slightly different.

But this isn't an exact tutorial. It's more a way of showing advanced users how its done.

If you know the game engine, and know what's going on in the tutorial, you'll be able to figure out what buttons to press in the new game engine.

Also, because of college, I don't have the time to make a full updated tutorial.

  • @aegis3d Oh, thanks for the response though

  • @guythingbob3 Make sure that your objects are all rigid bodies, if not, they have no gravity, nor motion. And if that doesnt work, space your body parts further apart. ;)

  • I never knew Blender had a game engine :o

    Thanks ^_^

  • how do you snap to the grid like that?

  • @CptnFordo Press Shift + S.

    Btw,everytime I test,the spine disappears within 5 seconds.

  • tanks X)

    its help a looooooooooooooooooooooooooot :D

i now can create mi first explotions with buildings :D

    niced to meet you:

    Alf!Q

  • thanks for this tut.... it helped a lot =)

  • Can you rig it and use it in game to do something like the gta 4?

  • thanks so much it helped a lot. 5 star explanation.

  • I got the ragdoll to work but for some reason my characters leg2 are spinning when he start to rotate in the air (the legs under the first)

  • Comment removed

  • valeu mano vai ser muiiiiitto util isso

    HARDSTYLE KING SHUFFLER

  • a big thanks from my ^_^

  • where can i get that?

  • The file or the program?

  • haha dat was a good & funny toturial

  • lol when i tried this the head got stuck on the cube it fell on :D

  • i have a question

i did every thing u did but then the 3 cubes didnt fall onto the other cube

    halp meh lols

  • i need help ='( when i make the first 3 cubes and attach them and stuff then when i hit play nothing happens they just sit there what did i do wrong?

  • Double check in the GE buttons window - did you set bounds right and make the cubes rigid bodies?

  • um maybe u culd help me a little uhm the 3 cubes dont move and i read ur comment and i did set the bounds right and all of them are rigid bodies theys still dont move

  • his arms are stiff! i followed all of your moves bout it didnt change! HELP!

  • Try rotating the hinges, maybe they are in such a position they can't rotate..

  • if you make all of the arms and legs ball joints it makes it floppier

  • you seem to know a lot about blender

i have a really stupid question:

how do you delete objects from blender on a mac?

  • On windows machines its either the x key, or the delete key.

  • that a completely stupid LOL

  • it is the x key

  • Is there a site where you can just download the ragdoll?

    I'm NEW to blender.

  • mines coming out really really stiff :(

  • you have to leave some room in between the boxes to give them more freedom of rotation

  • :( bugged

  • Thanks, this helped a lot! I can't thank you enough!

  • (look at comment below) the secand test it didnt fall it started to but then it went upward. help please?

  • the first test you did with the three sqares when i did it the sqares didnt fall. i might have missed a step. (I just started blender)

  • If you've just started blender you shouldn't be doing this tutorial, try do find some basic tutorials first

  • Nvm i figured it out. and i did do basic tutorials i just screwed up. but thanks

  • Can you help me with the Underarm settings thing because i dont get it my arms just go all the way around and urs just stay at body2 mine go crazy please help and what version did u use on this video

  • it should work in the newest version, but what is your experience with blender? because ragdolls arent something you should try on the first time..

  • i just started blender today so what should i do first cause i want to make awesome videos of this and when i tried the rope hang thing the head dangled down to body2 and the arms went everywhere and they were spinning nothing like yours on the tutorial

  • Where can i find something i can do after about 5 hours blending? :P

  • Try googling for "blender course", and then the basic course. That's the first tutorial i used.

  • i couldnt imagine PivotMasterDX doing this for his SFOC vids it would be amazing

  • HOY CRAP this is amazing gamemaker sucks when you can have this! your really a good person!

  • You do good tutorials and youve helped a noob like me thank you very much!!

  • ugh this is on a early version of blender and the layout is allot different i hate when that happens . owell at least your video gave me the jest of things and i managed to figure it out.

  • I just realized something after my last comment, The reason I thought that having a ball constraint was better was because with my hinge, the arm2 rotates parrallel to arm1, How do I get it to not do that? I followed your tutorial correctly?

  • Your rotation was probably off, you can rotate the pivots, so they hinge correctly

  • Great tutorial but the arm2's and leg2's should be a ball constrained to arm1's and leg1's. It results in better simulation, I'll post a video :D Great tut anyway!

  • Do the 3 squares at the beginning have to be sized exactly like that? I mean, does it have to be exact? Did you just size it like that for easier ragdoll movement?

  • not at all, it doesn't matter

  • ive been trying this tutorial for 3 days!! i cant get it to flipping work!!! please send me the .blend!!!

  • By downloading it off of the main site, duh.

  • I'm getting the same elbows Hinges issue that CrazzyNinja :)

I think it could be the fact that we need apply all the rotations and locations of the cubes before start the simulation... I'll do more testing and then I'll let you know.

Thanks allot for the Tuturial ;)

  • I've been screwing around with the rotation too, if you'll find a solution that always works, please, post it here, and i'll put it in the description.

  • I'm trying to upload the video that shows the problem (I'll make it a video response of your tuturial), as soon it is complete I'll start to look for the solution.

  • Awesome tut, this tut is great for beginners to blender. I tried it and I got it working!

  • how to duplicate it??

  • This isn't a beginners tutorial, i asume you already know this stuff before you start with ragdolls. Try to find some beginners tutorials first

    (it's shift + d )

  • can u actually change that to a perspective view?:D

  • Also, how can you make it a dynamic and rigid body at the same time?

  • I used an older version of blender, in the new version, if you press riged body, it's automaticly dynamic

  • Take one of the body boxes out. It might look better.

  • dude my odjects dont seem to fall onto the cube

i know this is noobish but can U help me?

  • Now in blender 2.46

    you can use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P

    instead of Record to IPO.

This way there is no need to readjust the frame rate.

Physics engine works at 60 fps and video is at 30 or 24 fps that is why the slow motion effect in most rag-doll videos

  • Thanks, that's handy!

  • Nice Aegis3d i will try it and give u some reviews its a good thing u made this one !

  • Thanks!

And you should see my new tutorial, it's about armature ragdolls, so not those boxy ones.

  • thx for this tut

but wich version of blender did you use for the vid. ?

  • I've used 2,44 but newer versions will work too

  • how do u get that view

  • What view?

  • AT LIKE2:41 srry for caps when u can see inside the cubes

  • That's wire frame mode, press z to go to wireframe

This is something very basic, and this is not an advanced tutorial, so try to find some basic tutorials first.

  • It's in the title, and in the discription -.-

what do you think blender would stand for? there's no food blender in this tutorial..

  • I have blender 2.45 and whenever i hit the p button the game engine crashes, no game window shows up, just a window that says that blender has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please help me, blender's game engine doesn't work.

  • That sound like an driver problem, do you have the latest videodrivers?

  • THANKS FOR THIS TUT :D

  • Very well done tutorial!

  • hey every time i try to add a hinge or watvr its all stiff when i test it! help =/

  • Are the 2 cubes spaced far enough from eachother?

  • ya u could say that i mean they're close but they dont even touch eachother

  • Could you send me the .blend? i'll have a look.

  • ok lemme get it i'll have to remember where i saved it lol =/

  • PM me ur email so i can send it to, u give it a look

  • Is it possible 2 restrict da movements of limbs 2 a certain point? Such as keepin' the elbows and knees from bendin' the opposite direction? I've tried experimenting and that's y I ask.

  • You could use instead of hinge or ball, generetic. This is still experimental tho..

  • hey umm just reading some of these comments where people can't seem to find vids on their desired question aswell as watching this great vid may i recommend reading some pages of the wiki blender noob to pro thats where you can learn some of the basics that arent always detailed about in vids

  • The blender noob to pro wiki is indeed very handy! I recommend it for all the blender starters that try my tutorial without experience.

  • okay...

when i test my head won't fall down:P

    he hung himself.:P

    what went wrong?

  • you forgot to make the head an actor in the game engine, do the same thing as i did @ 0:25

  • thanks:P

  • I have been using this program for 2 weeks now. I have watched 23 tutorials and noone has explained this one question. How do you change the model on its Y or X axis to make it a rectangle? Please help. Any more and I'm just giving up.

  • Press s, and than the x,y or z key to scale it over an axis

  • WHAT SITE

  • I dont even get it what butten did u push for the snap stuff

  • the menu at the beginning? that has nothing to do with the tutorial (its shift + s btw.. )

  • did u use windows moviemaker to edit the film?

  • Yes

  • what program did u use

  • Blender3d, and if you're gonna start with it, try some beginners tutorials first

  • lol um i dont get this

  • try some beginners tutorials first

  • how do u scale the objects like the cube to be a rectangle thing.

  • i can make the ragdoll, but do you know how i can skin it? or would i have to make an entirely new model and rig it?

    thanks.

  • unfortunaly, i don't know how to make an armature ragdoll, i've been trying to figue out how for a long time... but i just can't =(

  • ok :)

  • if you click play game will it also start

    the animation?

  • for that you'll need to add an ipo logic block (i'll explain it over msn ;) )

  • Em, I don't know if I'm having problem or it was supposed to be like that: the lower arms always spins very fast, which is unnormal, i followed every single thing you do! and it still spins like crazy when it's being moved too much or hit something really hard (I made the ragdoll controlable in game engine... right now I'm rendering the animation from game engine and might post it to your video response later, so if you can please tell me if i did something wrong or it's supposed to be like that

  • I'm not sure, it could be the boundries, or mayby you've placed them to close to an other part of the body. If you want, you can send me the .blend file, and i'll have a look.

  • well I PM'ed you the link... in case you haven't noticed...

  • already checking out the .blend ;)

  • So can stuff b imported like from MAX, Maya or other programs?

  • Blender can import by defauld over 20 files, and with plugins even more!

  • How do you scale over the Y axis???

  • if you don't know how to do that, i strongly reccomend to do some beginners tutorials first.

(and it's s key, and then the y key btw)

  • ah shit I forgot, sorry, scale and then axis position. I just downloaded Blender 3 days ago, and I'm trying to shove too much info in at once. :P

  • well, good luck then!

  • Nice tutorial! By the way your ragdoll should at least be proportioned like a human figure. For example his head was a complete cube and all 3 of his bodies were huge. You should add hands and feet as well. It would increase the realistic motion and it would look better.

  • true.. but than the tutorial would be way to long, this is just to explain the technique =)

  • Nice. You should post too a way to control it on keyboard.

  • thx it was a lot of help

  • no problem ;)

  • awsome tutorial, now if i would just get off my ass and start using blender lol..

  • wat is this program called?

  • blender ;)

  • wow you take so long to make the ragdoll

  • i had to do it slowly so people could understand.. that's why it's called a tutorial...

  • aegis3d, thanks a lot for this great tutorial!

    It's greatly appreciated.

  • Thank you too for the appreciation =)

  • what's the site where u can download this??

  • blender dot org

  • i make the spine like you but it wont fall down

  • Do you have any experience with blender?

  • no..

  • MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

I CAN'T SELECT THE CUBE!!!! :S. i have NO idea how to even do that!!!!!!

  • try some beginner tutorials first (and it's right click btw ;) )

  • i have tried right clicking! man... i have had a bad day... endorphin f**** up and now this :/

  • object mode and right click for select

  • hey, if u make another tut cna u make it a little slower i dint get that.. it went kinda fast.. and can u add a sould or music?

  • there is a pause button, i expected people would use it.. ;)

  • lol yah :) i still dont get blender ATT ALL D:

  • this is not a beginners tutorial, try those first.

  • i did, im trying 2 make a monster truck racing game, or a ragdoll game ive seen all tuts :) but i still dont get it D:

  • get blender or the game engine?

  • I have Blender, i dont get it

  • i meant understand blender or understand the game engine :P

  • ohhh well then... nope :)
