@good2goism I guess that's why it's called "taste". It just doesn't appeal to me. I grew up in Barbados and was still in my single digits when the ska came out. I guess we'll disagree on this one. They're doing the same boring move over and over again.
@kingska64 I've taken the audio from the 1964 LP which was recorded in 1963 at Federal Studios, not live; the clips of the video where BL&TD appear along with Keith & Ken are from the Sombrero Club film reels also of the following year as the Ska craze was booming.
Hey look, proper Ska dancing. Now "skanking" is just kids flailing around listening to music that is not really even ska and all sounds exactly the same!
@o101011o It's third wave ska. Skanking is the typical dance to third wave ska (and second, maybe, I think), while this is first wave/original ska. It evolved, but it's essentially got the same essence.
everyone says that "they wish they were alive back then" i hope that there is a new like generation of music so people my generation "teens" have "good" music
LMFAO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HOW HAS THIS VIDEO NOT GONE VIRAL YET!?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This is brilliant! I found this just yesterday. It is fantastic and needs to be seen by everyone! Byron Lee & The Dragonaires were a terrific band. This clip is a gem!
OMG! AWESOME ! .. THANX JAMAICA.! I LOVE SKA,I LOVE REGGAE,THANX TO PEOPLE LIKE THIS NOW WE'HAVE SKA AND REGGAE ALL ARROUND THE WORLD,HERE ON MEXICO WE HAVE SOME GOOD BANDS PLAYING SKA,...LOVE FROM MEXICO!! AND THANX FOR THE VID''
Nothing warms my heart more than watching granma and dem in their 70's still doing these moves at parties. Loves it. Great music, part of my history.....loves it!
This is my Ja. where are the Bryon Lees of today Come on musicians you can change back the core graph of our country we are a strong people music. Make it the music capital of the world we can do even reggae opra, o yes.music inventers. get up stand up get Jamaican Idol audition, Dancing with the stars, our way Get out and do it take back our country.
Wow... this shows Jamaica at such a beautiful time in her history when there was money, people were innocent, disciplined and the future looked bright.
Innocent couples dancing and having fun without having to grind up against each other. What a time capsule, thank you for sharing.
@Valizan lol 'Innocent couples dancing and having fun without having to grind up against each other.' love how it implys that grinding isnt innocent. its just another culture.
@xledzepplinx lol...I don't recall ever letting anyone get that close to me, or myself getting that close to anyone, without having alterior motives. Unless that's some new fad with 14 year olds these days that i don't know about, grinding up against another person is not a 'culture'.
@CaelaHarlot never said you did, but the dance move "the bump" was extremely popular in the 70's in the US with disco and all, is considered the roots of it. and as far as i'm concerned (i could be wrong) disco wasn't popular anywhere else except america (thank god), rather have my ska and punk anyday of the week. i don't think ive ever grinded a girl in england, but for the 4 years i was in america it was the only way to dance with my generation, no1 could do anything else lol
@Valizan Money being the operative word...where there is relative wealth you have relative peace and order, Many educated, wealthy Jamaicans left in the 70's to England, USA and Canada and took with them that wealth and education, when we look at the the so called ruination of Jamaica, look at who ran away because of Jamaica/Cuba propoganda pushed by the USA...Actually BLAME them.
My mother brought back a Dragonnaires record back with her as a souvenir from her holiday in Jamaica over forty years ago. Considering that her other records were pretty bad, I never listened to it... The joke is that I got into this type of music myself without listening to them!
@Larrygallis ...GLAD YOU LIKE SKA HEY ..COOL HEY IM 53 YEARS BEEN LISTENING TO SKA REAGGE SINCE A LITLLE BOY IN LONDON LOVE IT ..AND NICE TO SEE YOU ARE 18 AND LOVING IT SMILING SWEET ...
Tony Varity ah. Yeah. very cool. Byron lee was a cleaver man who ran an UP TOWN Kingston band, with tight musicians, lost from Eric Greens dance band. He bought his Hammond organ with proceeds from a tours, the first in Kingston! Now off to play some tunes on my Blaupunkt.
Great work. These guys knew how to party back in the days.
