  • Can anyone tell me where I can find THIS performance on dvd? Is it on "Live in Dublin"? God help me I can't stop watching this. I've watched it a thousand times. Funny how it never brings any tears.

  • I love this song - especially by these guys!

  • a pure classic fr my dad ,a glass of powers i raise rf you

  • that was supposed to be for @lilgreenman185 - sorry :-)

  • @TheMoll7 I as well

  • Brings me to tears. Powerful!!!

  • i want this played at my funeral

  • My friend posted this the day he graduated. Sadness.

  • Better then any chart music!

  • nadhera

  • This was Played at my parents funeral, they both passed away with in 9 days of one another, God, how I miss them , so this is for you both ....: )

  • Good night my lovely mum and dad....gone too soon, will meet you very soon, love you , your daughter Mags xxx

  • In Honor and Memory of all thise we have lost. This one is for you Anne.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! This song was once sung at New Years, like Auld lang syne is sung now.

  • This is just wonderful. I'm 16 years old, and I find that much better than all the musics of the moment listened to by the youth of my age.

  • Wonderful.

  • People disliking true music like this are the same kind of people who "enjoys" techno.....

People with no taste and no sense of reality !

  • My brother and I sang this at my grandfathers funeral last january, makes me weep every time I hear it.

  • Better than West Life!

  • MALY TEARS....manly tears...manly...tears....tears.....

  • Love these guys, but it's kinda scary now. I hear the High Kings and Celtic Woman singing this at the same time. Only for this one song though. The arrangement is the same for both groups. Did David Downes do the composing for the High Kings?

  • @William2020a yea Downes did both arr.

  • This song always makes me shiver, because it is so touching

  • Proud to be Irish ^_^

  • i fucking wish i was irish

  • This is a stirring performance by any standard! WHY would 20 people dislike it?!

  • 20 people who disliked have no soul.

  • This is my favorite song of all time. Man!

  • @stuartdthompson i agree its just ranmdom words with a eh beat, but i have found a group just like them if you want i can send you a vid!

  • You have stolen my breath and my words!! But, as a single tear rolls down my cheek, I can only say... thank you!

  • How do the pipers manage to play above HA (pardon my musical illiteracy) on the scale? I am a piper myself, and this is perplexing me quite a bit.

  • So in love with this version of this!!! You should also check out A Cub Bellas version. Very god too! Thanks for this!

  • Good night and joy be to you all.

  • Some just sing songs. The High Kings sing songs with emotion. If emotion is behind it, the sound can't be anything but pure. And this is absolutely one of the purest songs I have ever heard.

  • Thank you Sanctuary for introducing me to amazingness and beauty

  • @Herekittykitty777 thats where i first heard it too :D

  • I'm so glad I found these guys while listening to an online Celtic radio station...they are true artists. I still get goosebumps everytime the bagpipes join in. LOVE the pipes!!!

  • we played this at my wonderful father's funeral, God love him..... x

  • I take my first drink in memory of an old friend who was KIA. Rest well old friend.

  • @stuartdthompson Take heart, popular music may have forgot the art, but it is far from lost. Celtic, classical, opperatic, and chloral singers still know how to actuley sing.

  • I think it would sound better if only one of them was singing. It sounds weird to me when four people are claiming, "Ah for all the money *I* have ever had, *I* spent it all in good company."

  • I have this in my I-tune...now waiting for the Celtic Woman version..

  • Wow! I could listen to this over and over! Well, actually I am listening to this over and over! Can't get enough! Truly beautiful!

  • Listening to this song makes me think instantly of my best friend Austin...he was taken from us by a bullet that wasn't meant for him..Being that his family and mine both have alot of irish in our blood this song fits. RIP my brother. you were taken all too soon. 9/11/95-4/9/11

  • 2 problems with this video... first there should be way more views. and second who could dislike this? really?

  • @1324tbo ME

  • I thought I had heard all the beautifull songs from the High Kings. Till I heard this one. I lost some people in my life. I'll fill the parting glass for them.

  • @stuartdthompson I dunno what it is then, all I know is sometimes they sound very very different to these harmonies which seem unrealistically perfect. The guy on the left in particular seems to fall off the tune

  • Those pipes really brought this song home for me :')

  • Neil you will never be forgotten rest in peace my friend

  • Nice combo of the original version, followed by the Shaun Davey version in there

  • @dingodog475 why do you watch this then if you think it sucks.which it doesn't

  • @carrierox1031 cause my Nana wanted to show me some really gay music but bro you should listen to frans ferdinand or pearl jam. or maybe creed or foo fighters if want something heavier. and it does suck it has bugger all meaning and makes you want to go to sleep

  • @dingodog475 It's not for narrowminded simpletons who feel they have to let the world know when something doesn't appease them. It's for those who like celtic music, those who feel a connection to the song and even those who have lost a loved one who appreciated this type of music. To have this sullied by a poorly thought out, borish comment borders on insulting. We can however, next time you decide to express you disdain for a song, accept a well worded albeit harsh critique.

  • @drongoguy mmm yuuuh oookkkk, but can you stop eating dictionaries. And uh cann youuu pleaaase define thee exuberent worddd simpletonnn mm okk.

  • @dingodog475 O.K. I'll dumb it down for you... If you haven't got anything nice to say dont say it at all, because no one wants to hear your absurd comments or if thats still to intellectual for some idiot (simpleton) like you I might just be able to use a few grunt like noises to resemble a caveman... ugg.

  • @drongoguy dude have you ever listened to nirvana the man who sold the world or jet look what youve done or REM everybody hurts or u2 with or without or live lightning crashes?

no you haven't. CAUS YOU A SIMPLETON!

  • Wow.... :')

  • shivers each time the soloist sings

  • top of the morning to ya! greetings from switzerland! i want a pixy or a leprecorn..

  • This song just sort of hits me right down at the core. When the pipers came in my eyes sprang a leak. LOVE The High Kings!!

  • Ed Sheeran brought me here...

  • Came here because of Ed Sheeran. Great song! :)

  • I dedicate this to all the people who died in the attacks of the 9/11. It's been 10 years already, but nobody will ever be able to forget about this tragedy.

  • I am sorry as a piper myself you cannot autotune Bagpipes and their voices do not sound digitized to me as a 27 year computer Veteran, It was sung amazingly and the Pipes were very well played.

  • Also autotune cannot differentiate multiple inputs at once it can only do one set of harmonics so it is vertualy impossible to autotune this performance.

  • @TTimpreza yeah na autotune sucks... but so does this song!

  • 18ths people comrades weren't sorry for their going away

  • Irish music is so beautiful. This was truly moving ♥

  • Forget Celtic Thunder, THIS is how it's done! :-D

  • 100 out of 10 brilliant song

  • This is the most beautiful version of this song! Thanks guys, you are the best.

  • This would bring me to tears if it wasn't so obviously auto-tuned.

    Brilliant song and rendition, anyway.

    :)

  • @FuryKat

I saw them live this year at a small event with fold-out chairs and a limited sound system.

They sound like this in real life, too. I don't think it's autotuned at all. They are just excellent singers. (: People could sing this well before autotune was invented and this group is simply very good at what it does.

  • Dear ApocGenesis,

I agree with you. I lost my husband and mother within a year. Its tough, but such music from the High Kings helps. It seems to help a broken heart,

  • love this song :)!!!

  • Not as good as liam an shane macgowan . but a little showy like a play for me .

  • I always preferred these melodies taken from a humble pub or living room of unrenown performers - and I still do. But this high-budget rendition merits some praise though. Nicely done - though I still cringe at the money involved.

  • beautiful song, its so soft yet it builds up to a strong and significant song, you can just listen to it over and over again. I <3 it!

  • I heard this at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.

  • I can NOT understand how one person, let alone 17, can dislike this! It's so amazing!

  • best rendition of this I have heard yet.

  • I'm American and I'm damn proud of it! I dedicate this song to every troop KIA, POW, MIA, WIA, or just in our great military! Signing in is signing your life away. God bless them!

  • @Erkutanuva God Bless, in the name of the Creator, by whatever name you call him.

  • It, most literally, does not get better than this. I miss you Grandad...

  • Bagpipes :)

  • You ain't seen nuthin yet

  • Great performance. What is the name of the Pipe band?

  • god bless all the clancys i live right down the road from the LIAM CLANCY R>I>P legend go on the dutchman

  • This brings tears to my eyes!

  • this song is soo beautiful, sends chills every time i listen to it. Makes me want to be in Ireland sooner :) one day :)

  • Brought me to tears. Reminded me of my dear mother who passed away from diabetes when i was young. Bless you for uploading these beautiful ballads friend!

  • I lost my husband and my Daddy, who were both Irish, last year. This is a great song to honor them both on this Memorial Day.

  • @Katragew i ALSO LOST MY DAD 2 YEARS AGO ON FATHERS DAY reminds me of him aslo .along with the tearjerker killkelly ireland.

  • like posted on patty's green shamrock shore. i love these guys and always will. great voices and harmony.

  • I dedicate this song to anyone who has lost a loved one in this past year

To those who sought to free themselves from fear

To those who nature took before their time

To loved and dear ones who left in their prime

Because if you can read this Youtube post

Know that you'll never be forgotten

By those who love you the most

    <3

  • @ApocGenesis

    God bless you. :')

  • @ApocGenesis I dedicate ApocGenesis' comment to inarticulate attention whores the world over. May you also dedicate other people's things to whatever incoherent thought rambles randomly through your useless brain.

  • @ApocGenesis I loved your comment and can appreciate another person can enjoy and realise the meaning and being behind this music. May irish music live on in not only my era but in the furtre

  • So beautiful!

  • im fifteen and iv just found the song i want at my funeral.

  • One year ago today, my grandma died. This is the first time in a year that i've been able to listen to this song. I miss her a lot, but, somehow, this song is now helping.

  • This is probably my fave song that The High Kings sing (so far). The bagpipes are a perfect touch... I get chills every time I listen to this!!!

  • @daeleesa Yes, this is also a favorite of mine. And those bagpipes ARE perfect!

  • what a lovely song...

  • This is you Pearse. sing your heart out and I'll sing with you

  • there is a problem here... there is a dislike button ;)

  • Best version

  • To all the haters of this song, you should all go die in a hole filled with mice

  • This was obviously one of those performances that changed audience members' lives, if only for a little bit. Love love love.

  • This song keeps me thinking of good times :)

what a wonderfull kind of musik

  • Beautiful, just beautiful... I can listen this song for more than 1000 times, and still not fed up with it.

  • beautifully sung, played this version at my dads funeral, his favourite song, had everyone in tears.

  • Fabulously beautiful song. The High Kings are the best.

  • This sounds like the version Shaun Davey wrote for "Waking Ned Devine"

  • @monteverdi1567 It does!

  • Guys in kilts swirling bagpipes have always given my goosebumps and often tears. Love a Capella signing. Hope you visit the West coast of USA too, there's plenty Irish Scots over there.

  • "A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell."

"We can stand affliction better than we can prosperity, for in prosperity we forget God."

  • this is a beautiful song and we played it at our father's funeral. It describes him well.

  • i cry every time i hear this song. home is calling.

  • How anyone could dislike this version of The Parting Glass is beyond me!

  • @westie97 cos its far too cheesey. Slight hint of irishness, but just like Celtic women, tis been made all fancy and flash n what not, it should be kept simple as The Voice Squad have done it.

  • How anyone can not be moved by this is beyond me . I don't know what the 15 people who didn't like it were thinking. Maybe to much whiskey and long beards.

  • much respect for all irish folk songs...songs with history and meaning

  • I cry every time I hear this song. Beautiful.

  • try again without the autotune

  • @fairyslight If you don't know what AutoTune is, it's a modern technology that has the ability alter a singer's voice so that it sounds like they are hitting a particularly difficult note...onetouchtwo is feeling like he needs to snub these fine men...

  • may you be in heave an hour before the devil knows your dead

  • I wish theyd cut out the shamboola and just sing the song, which they can do pretty well. Hangin out of each other at the end is just too much, theres no need for it

  • @tony10396861 Lol. I think it's just a highly emotional song for most people who are familiar with it.

  • I love this song so much it reminds me of my uncle john who passed last year. He had a true Irish soul if I ever saw one. This song always makes me think of him I raise my glass to him everyday in remembrance for a soul that was taken well before his time but touched many on the way through his life.

  • a very beautiful performance

  • We buried my dad,a 5th generation Irish-American,this past Thursday,St.Patrick's day.A true son of Ireland(County Leitrim)..........thanks Dad for your inner strength, positive spirit and sharp wit. This song is dedicated to you.

  • Hey kingalthe1st... U obviously know not a damn thing about music. Take ur negative energy to Hannah montana's videos and leave this stuff to people who actually enjoy good music.

  • Thirty years on now that we've lost our 10. The place of Honour at the table is forever yours...God rest ye gentle, lads...a glass of the stuff for each of ye..Slainte.

  • To my Aunt Gracie, who passed away, I raise my glass.

  • Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone!!!

  • The parading bagpipers are only a little off kilter, I prefer my pipers seated.

  • @bjeany But Pipes are meant to march. They were the marching band of the scots. I think its great that there are so many younger men learning the pipes (a little off topic, but still there).

  • Why is it that most people sing this song like it's a funeral dirge? It's supposed to be a toast saying that we'll be seeing each other again... generally the idea of heaven is a happy thought! The High Kings and Shaun Davey are amazing doing this song! Incredible! Even though my dad likely isn't dying any time soon, he told me that he absolutely wants this to be sung at his funeral. Happily.

  • @wickedrocketelvispel I too want this sung at my my Funeral and at the celebration of my life.

  • This is the sort of song the High Kings SHOULD be singing! They can hit the slower ballads out of the park! Maybe I like the Dubliners better for the traditional 'pub songs', but I love the Kings' take on this classic.

  • may be the "new dubliners"

  • I could listen to these Irish Boy 'o's day and day out. The glory of their harmony, the God bumps that roll o'er me, the sadness mixed with gladness too, I raise the glass in toast to you.

  • YET AGAIN , our country reels with another shock.. The Christchurch earth quake that killed many of our citizens and also folks from around the world. Tourists who visited our wonderful country.154 confirmed dead and expecting up to 240 killed ,, II RAISE MY GLASS again , once for everyone killed , I could be an alcoholic by the end of it but at least it dulls the pain R.I.P.

  • @Bevancee I'm Belgian, and my previous chef moved to Christchurch. She and her husband survived... but their house is seriously damaged. We all think of you and keep our fingers crossed; hoping nature will calm down over there. I raise my glass and hope you're well and healthy xxx

  • It's amazing to think that THIS song used to have the traditional..."position"? of "Auld Lang Sine", as one to close an important or sanctified event...I wish it would have stayed that way!

  • To Brian Jacques; good journeys and sunlight on your road. I lift a mug of the finest October Ale in honor of a storyteller.

  • My short dedication to a very missed friend, Pete Heaney, forever in our hearts:

So here's to you Pete, my great friend

I raise my glass to you again

and gently rise and softly call

goodnight, sleep well, God bless you all

  • @cmc1991t -Sláinte dad

  • my family played this song at my grandfathers wake now everytime I hear this the tears run down my cheek

  • i LOVE this song ... especially the part when the begpipes come and the end when they put their arms around each other =)

  • @kingalthe1st Same thing was said about the Clancy Brothers with "Brennan on the Moor" and others...

  • @kingalthe1st You have to be kidding me. Try not to be too opinionated bro.

  • @kingalthe1st Go back to listening to your Lindsy Lohan Freaky Friday soundtrack bro,

  • Love this !!

  • I "Filled the parting Glass" to my 23 year old cousin, who passed away in an accident. We are an Irish family, and this song will forever remind me of him.

  • this is the most beutiful song i've ever heard... i raised my glass and i fell a tear

  • This is the best performance of this beautiful ballad.

  • Come on, we're almost at the top!

Sleep it off later like the rest of them

    - Do we all have a drink? - Here, Maurice.

    Take a drink...

    ..and remember the man.

Then raise your spirits to the sky!

    Raise them to Ned Devine!

    God bless you, Ned!

And may we be forever in your debt.

    To Ned Devine

  • lol i came here from Bloody Jack
