3) The Bolshoi theatre is my home and family, I’m not going to leave it, but I’m always open for any invitations and work proposals, that don’t require me leaving Bolshoi.
There were many premieres last season. I want to make a special emphasis on the Le jeune homme et la mort ballet. It was a very interesting experience for me and a very nice collaboration with Roland Petit. I’ve seen many great dancers performing this part but it’s one thing to watch and another thing to dance and feel it.
2) Since recently I’ve found myself enjoying opera, basically Italian opera. My favourites are Cavalleria rusticana, The Barber of Seville, Rigoletto, Pagliacci. I understand now what a great art opera is.
I was born in Vladivostok, lived in Dnepropetrovsk, studied in Minsk, now working in Moscow. I like this city and always feel sad when I need to leave it.
I’ve travelled a lot over these four years. I’ve been to Cuba, the US, Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain, Brazil, Switzerland, Japan, China.
Here is a brief summary of what he's saying for those who would like to understand :)
1) It’s my 5th season in Bolshoi, the previous four were tough but successful. I’m at the point now where I realize that jumping as high as possible is not the most important thing. What I’m trying to do now is not just dance but create emotions on stage.
The Spartacus ballet was a milestone in my life. I had to grow up as a human and as an artist. I’m now more confident when I’m dancing this part.
4) When you try to understand all the emotions of this young man and his thoughts that force him to commit suicide, it drives toy mad.
What is popularity? It’s just something that pleases you but it’s not the ultimate goal of life. The more down-to-earth you are, the more good and faithful friends you have. It doesn’t matter if you’re popular or not, I dance and I enjoy it, that’s all.
This is a nice set of fun stuff. He has a lovely combination of a light, gorgeous, incredible technique with a polished quality contrasted with a young Brando-type, rough edge. I can name all the ballets but WHAT IS THE THIRD ONE? With the frilly cape? Really, Chuckster, your idiotic comments about the costumes and mise-en-scène are way off the mark. Sorry if you can't understand either Russian or ballet. You remark on tiny flaws in the packaging compared to the gift inside.
He is a blessed windy God. He can wear anything, anywhere, anytime; He is worried about art and He must have not poor mind for clothing by. He is simple, cute, easy going one,and must feel he is above others commun mortal. For sure He is not an idiot.
great dancer, can't understand the language. However, i must say the way it's shot makes ivan look like a douche bag. I'm not sure if he picked out that outfit himself but i hope that's not what he wears every day. And instead of showing ivan in class, or interacting with others in the company, they shoot him lurking empty hallways looking like a vapid idiot. the whole production seems very cheap and rushed. you can tell it's all shot in one day because he's wearing the same awful shirt.
Love this so much! Ivan is very engaging! The height of his individual jumps (as opposed to his manege) is astounding - particularly in the first clip. He's *the* great male virtuouso in the world today and so exciting to watch. Love it - thank you so much for posting! Also ... love the speed of his DQ pirouettes!
@MrNocco I think you are right insofar as some of Ivan's earlier performances were more technically correct/pure. Because he has such natural stupendous technical facility he must avoid becoming too flashy. It's a very narrow line to tread! But this is being pedantic really! It's amazing to watch!
I heard that he and mme osipova left the bolshoi and dance now in the Mikailovsky theatre!

The beginning's the best, he just walks in like he's the king of the world (which he is in the ballet world)

How can the most rated comment on this video be about what he is wearing?! Just enjoy this beast and shut up!

So please, learn the language if you should and leave the fashion comments to the vapid fashion crowd. This guy is a force of nature!
