@OldHowlingHound When u use these units you are shedding the load. Meaning you can use a smaller unit and manage heavy loads like AC units. too much draw on the gen... then you get no ac.... simple ...It doesn't beat up the generator.

Its managing the power. Do you really think a typical home uses 166 amps @ 120 volts of power? Because that is what a 20 kw gen is rated at
