Well, as far as I am concerned, it's a great cover of a great track, done by a great band! Why do people always have to read so many negative and evil things into rock bands and rock music? There is so much other trouble and strife in the world today that they should rather concern themselves with. If you don't like it, press "stop" or switch off! Quite simple, really. Bloodgood are brilliant! Thanks for this posting.
It's no wonder no one wants to be a christian. Look at all you! I think we'll all be surprised that God doesn't seem to fit in any of our little boxes. This video rocks and all you can do is whine whine whine. Maybe their hair is too long too?
look left, there are videos for their songs Accept the LAMB and CRUCIFY which clearly gives the gospel message to people who would never set foot in a fundalmentalist church where 1/2 the congregation has a tie on and the other 1/2 is wearing dresses
People seriously, the world has bigger problems than Bloodgood playing Rock n Roll at Cornerstone. FYI - They did great with it, Jesus still loves them, and it hurt no one. Keep up the great work Bloodgood!!
I'm sure God was so disappointed in them playing this song while wars, famine, disease, etc. was going on in the world. People need to get the priorities straight. Screw religious beliefs and love God and your neighbor. That's what he said....not debate about them playing a song.
I was being sarcastic. I play at church and myself and the other guitar player went through the first half of Nothing Else Matters the other day. Playing something on a guitar isn't probably what He goes around worrying about. I wouldn't agree with playing in a bar as a Christian, but playing a song....big deal.
I go through some metallica as backing music in church myself. Usually no one notices..... Except the black sabbath time.... Some people did appreciate that one lol. We need to stop worying so much about music. No such thing as an evil note, only evil intent!
Well, You want to do the job Jesus put us to do, then we have to go to the bars and look. Because the once need saving is usually not in church every sunday, he/ she is some place else. So if you want to save people and do His work then you have to attend those places.
??? I could debate that point with you. The exact verse in the bible that gives the great commission doesn't exactly say you should go to bars so you can witness. Although some people do that(to each his own calling). The original text says "Therefore 'as you go' make disciples of all nations" Doesn't that mean just try and minister to ppl you are normally in contact with?
Ok what did Jesus do? Did he not turn to the sinners in order to help them on to the right path? Some people have been given that path by the Lord to seek the once that has fallen that far, so that they may have the chance to turn around. Do not judge them who are doing Gods work in places where he would not reach othrwise. You have to go where the Lord tells you.
Yeah, I agree. But when you said it the first time, you made it a general statement. Not everyone is called to go into a bar or a strip club and witness. That's all I was saying. You said "We HAVE to go to the bars and look". But that isn't true for everyone. Only the ppl the Lord tells to do that. Not everybody is cut out for that.
Was this a bad song choice for a Christian band? Sure, was it a bad choice to play this song at Cornerstone? Sure, but I think a lot of Christians are making way too much of this. How many Christians still listen to secular music? Does it sway your faith and belief in anyway? As for sending the wrong message it's debatable because everyone is different and what affects you doesn't affect everyone quite the same way. Lighten up.
BTW- just because secular tunes were used for hymns doesn't justify it...doesn't make it wrong either. Basically the appeal to the "secular tunes for hymns" is using tradition to justify something when we should always use the word of God, not traditions of men. Again, NOT saying using secular tunes is wrong...I'm just saying, using the "ancient hymnwriters did it" argument is a lame argument to justify something. Bible, not tradition is our standard of truth and practice...or should be. :)
Is this an argument? an attempt to justify?Who introduced the quote "ancient hymnwriters did it"? I'm not sure where you're coming from or what outside discussion you are bringing to the conversation here.
The point I have put forth from the onset is- a tune is given by God, man chooses how to use it. Some tunes have a long history. At certain points in history a melody was used in a secular setting. Later, that same melody was used for a hymn of the church. The Bible itself can be misused.
For the record, marycross, I like Bloodgood. Used their video to help lead a friend to the Lord. You seem to make a lot of assumptions about others who have a different view than you. Differing opinions doesn't mean someone doesn't know God. The only thing justfrank or I said, was questioning the wisdom of doing a Zeppelin tune...neither of us questioned Bloodgood's faith or walk with the Lord.
Maybe the choice of this song was not very wise and many could understand it wrong that Bloodgood covered it, but I don't think that Bloodgood would in any way give credits to the wrong message of Led Zeppelin. Two thoughts - let's pray that Jesus will always be the number 1 in their life and ours, and the second - if we need an answer on things, we don't understand, get it from the person, whom you don't understand. That's building up the body of Christ.
And to conclude, From what you are saying, I suppose Darrell Mansfield, a well known and respected Christian artist, is straying from the faith as well by recording "Nobody's Fault but Mine" on one of his albums.
So now I can assume you think God was wrong to have Rahab, a known prostitute, be in the bloodline of our Lord Jesus?
Sorry, but I really have to question if you truly know the heart of God. I'll be praying for you.
Nobody suggested Bloodgood was straying from the faith...those are YOUR words. Reread the other posts. BTW...Nobody's Fault But Mine was written by Blind Willie Johnson...a blues artist...also a Christian and evangelist. It was not a Zeppelin song...Zep covered it, but it was written by a Christian. It is a common misconception that it is a Zeppelin song. :)
And to add to what I just said, As far as them performing a Led Zeppelin song, I believe the lyrics to this particular song are not offensive in any way. And I saw another video clip where the singer made a point to let everyone know he changed the lyrics to be Christian themed. A genuis idea to say the least for a man true to his faith in Christ!
Hmmm! These negative judgments seem so unfair and ungodly. I for one have seen the fruit of groups like Bloodgood and Stryper. Although their callings are unique, the Lord has used them where others could quite possibly never have reached. Though their methods seem a bit unorthodox, they certainly touch hearts for the Lord.
I've loved Bloodgood for years. However, I don't see someone pointing out a concern regarding them doing a song by a well known occultic rock group as being negative. It is a valid concern. It doesn't mean that Bloodgood is not used of God...it is a case of someone worrying about the confusion it might cause. That is all.
It is an odd choice for Bloodgood to do this song when they stand so strong on values...It dosent bother me personally...but it could be confusing and send a conflicting message that christian rock bands are more for the music than the message
I'm shocked at the flippancy of the folks telling "frank" to chill out or lighten up. Anyone ever heard the term "bad witness." What else do you call it when professing Christians play a song in concert by a drugged out, occultic band like Led Zeppelin??? I think it sends a very confusing message to give creedence to a band that was steeped in spiritual darkness. What if it inspires Christian kids to listen to Zep and to be subsequently influenced by their filthy lyrics?
Led Zeppelin? "occultic"? "Filthy lyrics"? Led Zeppelin was one of the cleanest bands of the 70's. Although Jimmy Page and John Bonham had serious drug problems, their lyrics were not harmful to listen to at all. And "occultic"? WUT?!?!? For goodness sake, do some research before you make a statement like this! If someone who wasn't a Christian saw your comment, they would think that we're all uneducated!
Oh, and Oz Fox is amazing no matter WHAT he plays.
Listen to Black Dog, totally sex-laden song. As for occultic, never said their lyrics were, I said THEY were. Page was obsessed with Satanist Aleister Crowley. As for research, I was a metal musician and dj in the 80s and a ZEP fanatic. I read pretty much everything I got my hands on that was Zep oriented. So I am well educated on Zeps backround.
Jimmy Page had a great interest in Crowley, but he was never a Satanist, although he was involved in odd spiritual affairs that I personally disagree with. Still, as a guitarist, I has respect for his talent, and i like Led Zeppelin for their music and talent. If they became Christians, that would be even cooler.
My favorite rock n roll band ever is Stryper because they actually were Christians, and every single member of the band displayed a ton of talent.
Some of our brothers need to stop talking and read.
Let them research the history of many beloved hymns of the church. Many a hymn was a drinking song melody taken from the pubs and reworded to lead people to Christ.
Melodies have God given power that can lead to or away from Him depending on use. Much like the power of sex. If used properly it is a gift, used selfishly a curse.
Anyone can find evil, the key is to seek the good-
The drinking song argument is false. There is not one shred of proof that any hymn came from a drinking song. The myth arises from the fact many hymns were written in the form of "barre" music...a musical style. Some confused this to mean "bar songs" or "tavern songs" but it is a myth.
Many people are offended by terms "drinking song" or "pub tune", but it is not false. Maybe a better term to use as to not offend the easily offended is "secular folk tune". Perhaps many of the tunes used for Luther and later on Wesley hymns were not specifically "drinking songs" by origin, but were used as such in the pubs. The original tune was not used for worship either, but simple folk songs. The point is how do you use what is given?
agreed...folk tunes were used, but a folk tune is not necessarily a "drinking tune." Luther used only one hymn that was put to a secular traveling song. He later wrote an original tune for the words because he didn't like the idea of having a secular tune for his "hymn words." Joyful We Adore" this uses Beethoven's Ode to Joy. I never denied the use of secular music. Although,
Anyone else disturbed by Christians performing a tune by Zeppelin...a band known for their debauchery and occult influences? I love Bloodgood, but am deeply disturbed and saddened they would do this.
