  • Did Brohard do an I&E that year?

  • @owaaaa984 no... 05' was his one and only year... sucks too cuz tim jackson win practically every year he did I&e... casey had that potential

  • hes almost as flashy as ivan pacheco

  • Gosh he has very quick hands for this kinda of work. I makes my head spin just watching hIm. Good stuff though.

  • Let me remind all of you that this is a difficult solo. It makes it even more difficult that he had to memorize it and do it perfectly in order to get 1st. If you said he messed up, it would have been very noticeable and he would've gotten 11th place.

  • nice hand movemnts..

  • of course a blue devil would win.... just saying.

  • Just because whatever style he is playing isn't the one that you like, doesn't mean that he sucks. This guy has serious talent and he deserves credit for what he does. Everybody can have their own opinion about what they think music should be, but to some people, this is music. Music isn't something that you can define, it is just what people feel. To criticize another person's outstanding musical ability in such a way that degrades them as a musician is being ignorant and very close-minded

  • The longer I play drums and the more I learn... This level of drumming just gets more impressive. If you don't think this was amazing drumming you don't have a clue about drums.

  • They should really start having solos outside, so much echo.

  • @pidog1............ The one thing positive I can say is that at least it is producing some young players with fairly good technique.

    Tommy Igoe..fairly good technique

    Billy Cobham..........fairly good technique

    Nat Barouch.......fairly good technique

    Scott Johnson.......fairly good technique

  • @hotdogking .... lol yeah scott johnson .... just fairly good lol

  • @hotdogking ... Billy Cobham`s technique is not even fairly good .... Tommy Igoe`s technique is outstanding ... i dont know who those other cats are

  • @pidog1 That is probably the most ignorant thing I have ever heard

  • @pidog1 The thing that remains the same is that these are all college students. Amateurs. They will not have flawless technique regardless of how naturally talented they are. At any rate, the activity has changed more than we realize over the last four years. The new techniques are revolutionary, and more correct.

  • @pidog1 i couldn't disagree more!

  • @pidog1 seriously? in my opinion, DCI is a professional activity that only the best and most ambitious musicians/athletes compete in on an international scale. these are some of the most talented drummers in the world, and DCI makes them strive for more. so dont say "if they make it in the music world" because i have more respect for this organization than any label or orchestra/band, regardless of how much they get paid (or have to pay in DCI's case). if you dont like it, then dont comment.

  • @pidog1 on what grounds do the drums sound terrible? you must be one of those really old guys that listens to nothing but classical music and thinks everything else is inferior.

  • @pidog1 I would like to know what type of background in percussion do you have. For one this is an snare drum that is tuned for outdoor use and the sound quality in the video is not the same. This is also a performance it would be no different than a rock drummer or jazz drummer doing a solo, they rock out and get into it you would see a drummset soloist play still it would not look good. Do you know what these kids go trough on summer tour it is rough but rewarding. PS he is the world champ OK

  • @pidog1 a true drummer is interested in every form of drumming. thats clearly not you.

  • @pidog1 you have got to be the most closed-minded know-it-all in the musical world.

  • 0:40

Im trying but it wont let me.

  • He kind of looks like Chris Cole haha

  • Anyone who says this sucks or that they can do better is a fucking lying piece of shit. This is a tremendously difficult solo, I saw the sheet music once and it is rhythmically beyond most people and few have the chops for this anyway.

  • 3:26

  • 2:19

    "i kill you!!"

  • That final shot is AWESOME.

  • His technique wasn't that great. but then again it IS about the solo...

  • What about his technique isn't good? As an honest question. I'm not a snare player so I'm just curious, not disagreeing.

  • so does anyone know why casey didn't compete in 06?

  • @Tenorsarefun he aged out didn't he?

  • he did in 07. I'm positive that he was on the snare line in 06, the year of this solo. I'm just curious as to why he didn't compete because he did in 05, and 06 was his last chance to...

  • lol, i wonder what would happen if jim kilpatrick entered the comp?? hahahaha

  • @CrazeKillen

    He'd get smashed.

  • who kilpatrick or this guy on the vid?

  • @CrazeKillen

    Kilpatrick.

He plays a different style than DCI members do. It wouldn't make any sense for to compete.

  • him*

  • jim kilpatrick can roll with one hand... there might be a different style, but what can these guys do that he cant.. honestly?

  • so he can roll with one hand...plenty of DCI drummers can.

    Agree to disagree?

    Don't need a flam war.

  • @whsquads He's talking about a one-handed buzz roll. I haven't seen any DCI player do that.

  • this solo isnt that hard, i bought it and learned it a few years ago, but it is put together amazingly.....lol I wonder how many times he practiced that shot at the end?

  • man this is inspiration...

  • i got really bored with this!!!

  • how many years did u play at drums?

  • 150 OMG omgomg OMGOMGOMG

  • look at his facial expressions on 2:35 lol. THis guy is amazing!

  • Also 2:05

  • Yeah anybody who isn't impressed by this is either God, or they have no idea what they're doing. 50% of the stuff in there, I could never learn by ear if I tried. Well I could, if I could slow it down. buuuuut otherwise no there would be no way. And I'm pretty proud of my ability to learn music quickly haha

  • 1:50..i just learned how to do

  • I've got the music for this if anyone is willing to trade.

  • @knexems i have casey brohards 2006 solo if you wanna trade send me your e mail and ill send you mine

  • Everybody that said he doesnt have any technical playing abilitys thats bull crap because all dum corp is, is technique they work every day and hour on just warming up and then they start technique building on there cadences/shows.

  • And I am not dumping on anyone.......but do the people that comment as such understand the whole concept of rudimental DCI drumming?

  • you should give it a shot n say that again.

  • @hotdogking most of the time no ....

I am sure he has played that solo better at time but it was still good

  • @hotdogking if they dont think this is good....then yes apparently they dont have very much experience playing on a drum at all............dynamic levels, sound quality, chops are all included in this solo which is the reason he won. very few people can play at this level

  • heh can you imagine if he missed that last shot

  • i think i just jizzed in my pants

  • they created drums for rythym too, and i heard rythym so its all good.

  • dude i agree

  • Inpressive, but they created drums for music, and i didn't hear music at all, just impressive tricks.

  • So Drum Corps has nothing to do with timing, rhythm, precision, focus, and physical capability? It's all just tricks? You have either never marched, or you don't understand the activity and the purpose. People don't march so they can go out and backstick. They march to have fun and to create bonds with other people that put their heart into one final product that they will always remember. Besides, this guy is entitled to do tricks since he can clearly back it up with chops.

  • @madjical Couldn't say it any better bro. I'm not a blue devils fan but this guy and tim jackson are both prodigies at what they do.

  • tricks u wish u could do

  • reality check, your a loser.

that doesn't know anything about drum corps.

  • @a7xfan1230 and maybe your just a jerk that has low self-esteem that realized that he will never make it as a musician so you take it out on everyone else that is

  • its a solo snare drum competition, or would you rather he pretended it was a drumset and get dead last?

  • no clue dude

  • i play better

  • Doubt that! Put a vid up if your better

  • you should never pick off slowly ....i did that on youtube and someone stole my duplex simmerphore note

it dont matter ...your still dope sticks at snare ...lol ...just saying

  • LOL, his faces are just like the davidmeshow faces

  • hahaha!! nice!! Carmen at like 2:10

  • I see this as interesting and skillful...of course lots of experience.

  • He reminds me of Faraday from LOST

  • my dad was in the blue devils platoon back in desert storm

  • hi

    good job

  • automatic win at 1:43. lolz

  • i mean 3:07

  • 3:03 left hand dies from all the insanity for a bit

  • How the hell could you tell he missed 3 beats at 0:46??? DUmbshits...

  • looks like he's playing with a slight tilt BK style!!!!!!!!! really good player for sure!

  • ugh too much reverb but sounds great

  • WIN @ 2:04

  • truly skilled and not overly flashy...i like it

  • sweet as hell

  • he missed nothing at 0:46

  • yup, cuz you know and you wrote the music for him right?

  • wrong

  • right, two, and ONLY two....who's the ignorant fuck?

  • that is literally what i said like two days ago... and i used the insult ignorant fuck!

  • let's see that fag travis barker do this..

  • why does everyone hate on travis barker. hes a good drummer in his own right and the video of him playing the snare was just him messing around. he never actually said he was the best... just the ignorant fucks that think hes good cuz hes travis barker

  • Hmm... He's bad. Ok, don't compare him to snare players. Let's compare him to good drummers, steve gadd, buddy rich, gene krupa, neil pert?

  • travis barker is good in his own right. you have to give him credit for that. he is a great punk drummer but we all know that punk isnt too rythmically demanding. unlike jazz, metal, and rudimental drumming in any shape or form.

  • travis has his set set up like a jazz kit, and the stuff we hear in blink and +44 and all his remixes isnt the only thing the guy plays.

  • @rattlinO0Osnares The genre does not dictate how rhythmically demanding you play. Barker's genius is his ability to play uniquely and energetically in a song.

  • @cubine travis barker is waaaaay overrated. Its mainly his image that makes him so popular. He's got some (and by some i mean barely any) chops, but there are soooooooo many drummers that are sooooooo much better then him. Both rhythmically and energetically. just watch the drummers from the "guitar drum-off". travis Barker=not that good of a drummer. bottom line....oh yeah, BLUE DEVILS ROCK!!!!

  • @RickDawg527 I still stand by the fact that he was a huge innovator in pop punk drumming. Hundreds of kids emulate him today for a reason, and it's not the image. Show me a better-written drum part for Adam's Song or Aliens Exist and I'll change my mind.

  • lets see you do this

  • epic \m/

  • those one handed rolls are amazing!!

  • As incredible as guys like Casey and Pacheco are, I think you all DCI enthusiasts should direct yourselves to one drum set player and study his ideas and technique: Buddy Rich. Look for "buddy rich 1970", "buddy rich stick trick solo", "buddy rich boston pops" "buddy rich vs ed shaughnessy" "buddy rich solo de bateria" "buddy rich at the hague" "buddy rich on why he doesn't use match grip", "buddy rich two o' clock" and SO ON then shake your heads in disbelief. There will never be another him.

  • Don't worry cadaverr......these DCI guys are fully aware of Buddy.......quite a few drumset guys marched in DCI corps...Tommy Igoe marched Bridgemen for one.

Even Neil Peart hints at some drum corps background.

  • @hotdogking Don't forget billy cobham! lol

  • Buddy Rich is amazing; great. He probably played a lot longer than these guys.

  • I'm pretty sure ANY drummer knows Buddy Rich. Keep in mind though, anyone in DCI is either 21 or younger. Those that stick with it get even better after they age out. If they can do this stuff now, imagine where they could be 10 years from now.

  • those 1 handed rolls r crazy

  • does anyone know why casey didn't do I&E in 2006?

  • idk but, I was disappointed, I was also disappointed that he joined freelancers instead of RCC in 2006

  • yeah it sucks. It's funny too, because RCC won gold in 2005... Oh well. Either way, casey is still a bad ass.

  • holy shit our band directer's nickname is Jiffy Pop...

  • Sounds like a warehouse fire at the Jiffy Pop factory.

  • what the fuck?? mike bierek the artist? an amazing drummer too? geeezz

  • 1:03 Ivan Pachecos 2005 solo?

  • my guess is that they probly both got that idea from some other piece of music or beat.

  • was that a real peace?

  • for one thing its piece lol. and yes it is. he wrote the whole thing himself. ive seen the music its nuts.

  • damn dude. That was awesome makes me want to go practice. I wish he could teach my drumline at schoool

  • Is Mike the one who does indoor floors... and clothe designs and what not?

  • This solo NEVER gets old...its just GRRRRREAT!

  • I've always liked Mike's performance here.

Good chops, pretty well written solo. But the thing that makes this performance is his body/head movements through out it all. Effing hilarious

  • 1:48 was the best.

  • The beginning was a little weak, surprisingly. He really loses tempo until he gets in to it.

  • pretty frickin sick and i agree with godortoiletpaper

  • ill ive him 100 bucks if he can do the exact retuine:)

  • Haha, prove it!

    *Actions speak louder than words*

  • I already did!!!

    Watch my videos!!!

  • Awesome! Except the snare tuning and video quality coulda been better.

  • The tuning was fine but the microphone was too far out of place. The audio from the documentary crews was great.

  • i hardly recognized him without his hat!!!! lol

  • I would like to see you play that

  • And like most DCI snare drummers, I'm sure he's not the least bit pretentious.

  • His technique is actually kind of refreshing. It is very Moeller, yet with a lot of power behind it - which is actually what Moeller taught, though many think that feather tapping is a result of that method.

When Dave Weckl (my mentor) changed his style to Moeller, it completely changed his playing in a positive way, permanently.

  • holy fuck.

he does shit I can't even fucking comprehend.

What I would give to be a good as a DCI snare.

  • What is the name of this solo?

  • "pushing squares"

  • i agree that travis barker drum fails. everyone loves him and i dont know why...

but this guy is really good. but ive seen much more interesting solos.

  • Travis Barker? ew...

I hate idiots who think metal and punk and death/screamo is the best just because of some stupid reason..

on Buddy Rich's videos, all these losers say Joey is faster, etc...

    BULL SHIT

  • good job dude

  • very fast but boring

  • this guy is to cocky

  • OMG....that comment had me howling with laughter!!!

Travis Barker is a better rudimental player!!!

That made me laugh more than Eddie Murphy in Raw!!!!

That's somewhat like saying Joey Jordison is a better jazz drummer than Buddy Rich (was)

  • Dude im with you on this one. As a drummer I hate we people say travis barker is better then alot of drummers. If you want repetive 16th notes and the same old beats then yeah travis is better, Travis and Joey are some of the most overrated musicans of all time

  • repetitive I mean. Dont want any youtube ass holes saying that im a idiot for miss typing a word

  • Then you better check your spelling of "miss typing". lol

  • Evident? Where's the evidence? I haven't seen Travis do anything in rudimental playing that even exceeds the line of mediocrity. He should stick to set.

Unless of course you were being sarcastic.

  • LOL! So Joey Jordison is playing jazz now? Hmm...if they are as good as YOU say then you should watch a few Dave Weckl or Steve Smith videos. While those very lucky drummers are out partying with the MTV crowd the real drummers are sitting in the studio practicing! You kids kill me!

  • haha negative

  • joke right? that or you're fucking retarded. joey jordison has even shown himself play jazz, when????

  • I have yet to hear/see Travis play any kind of rudiment in his playing AND utilize dynamics...

This guy is such a better drummer than Travis to the umpteenth power.

  • This guy's quick but has no flow whatsoever...

    Be honest?

  • Seems to flow pretty well to me.

You're not gonna tell me Travis is a better drummer than this guy, cuz he's not. No by a long shot.

  • the piece flows just fine. be honest with YOURSELF. do you have any idea what's even going on in this arrangement? i'd assume your another big punk rock fan who doesnt even know what a flam drag is.

  • travis barker is very good when playing in the punk rock genre. otherwise, he is not a great drummer. he is an avergae drummer who probably wont improve because of the music he plays. i love blink but i accept hes not a great drummer, while DCI takes years of dedication and hard work.

  • please don't tell me you're referring to travis barker. him, a better "marching band" drummer, haha what a joke

  • Travis Barker? a drummer? Is that what he's considered compared to anybody?

  • Travis Barker is a great drummer, and is an incredible stand out in the genre he plays. That being said, he can't play DCI style snare drum or percussion worth shit.

  • your an ignorant fucking moron Travis Barker cant even play 8 on a hand correctly compared to the blue devils in 2006

  • holy god you must not play drums if you think joey jordison is a better jazz drummer than buddy rich damn buddy is better than joey even though hes dead

  • HAHAHAHA!!!

  • ROFL?

  • We must accept that the internet is primarily made up of idiots and trolls..

  • Some people use ANTI-TROLLING techniques.
