I remember seeing an old film somewhere of Teresa doing this in front of a record player, & there was a little man dancing on the record as she sang. I THINK she sent him sailing off the record at the end or something. LOL! It was GREAT!
Great contrast between this and Skeeter Davis's version. Patience and Prudence were Patience and Prudence - I quess their mom had a lot of control over them 24/7.
Until recently I only knew Viola Wills' version. Teresa Brewer's original certainly is the most - shall I say - ironical? It is interesting that the "boom boom" was used in the cover version featured in the film "4 marriages and a funeral". A nice reference to the original.
Love it.. was looking for 'I get along without you very well' but this is so much better.. no more wallowing... might get a kick in my step and dance away some blues x <3 it x
TESSIE'S BENCHMARK HIT was Music Music Music which rocketed her to stardom in 1950. This song was not a success until Patience & Prudence ran it four years later. (they were 11 and 14 at the time!) Tessie's best love song will always be Til I Waltz Again with You. I had a crush on her all the way through high school, though I never saw her on TV til she was 50 around 1980..
Probably the most famous version was by Viola Wills who's disco style got to number 8 on the 6th-Oct-79 (UK),1st 1 I heard & my favouite. Teresa Brewer (7 May 31 – 17 October 07),an American pop singer whose style incorporated elements of country, jazz, R&B, musicals and novelty songs. 1 of the most prolific & popular female singers of the 50s, recording nearly 600 songs. Born Theresa Breuer in Toledo, Ohio, she died of a neuromuscular disease at her home in New Rochelle, N.Y. at the age of 76
There is an early version by The Bell Sisters titled "Boom Boom-My Honey" that is also said to be the original. But perhaps this version is the first.
Thank goodness Viola Wills put her class all over this song! This version is too shocking to listen too! No doubt it was a hit in 1950 whatever-bring on the 70's/80's anyday!
Teresa Brewer professionally changed the spelling of her name from the original, more Germanic Theresa Breuer.

I just learned from Second Hand Songs that even even this version is a cover. It was first recorded by a singer named Roy Hogshead

Patience and Prudence sisters made this song a little bit sweeter in 1956.....
I guess Early 50's was somehow different in styles!
