Your brain is more complecated than you realise. It can take fear and help materialise it. I say, read it, get scared, and laugh about it afterward. These books are a huge marketing ploy used to try and scare people who can't quite grasp that the only reason they become scared is that their mind is going batshit reading this.
There's a line that goes something like "if you can't hear me breathing, it's probably because I'm holding my breath."
Really? That's basically saying, if your mind doesn't trick you into thinking you hear breathing, it's because there is no breathing.

It plays on imagination, yea, you fear that something may be behind. But when common sense kicks in and you realize that none of this is true you open the door and oh, what a surprise, nothing. @sacr3 I'll say this once again, record it so we can believe that you've done it. I haven't read the book but from what I've heard is that you're not even meant to open the door at all. I understand what you're saying but people who have not read the book tend to have the same attitude that you do. Always in doubt, not believing it, introducing psychological elements in order to explain the resulting perception and belief of a person who has read it, and classifying them as a schizophrenic.

@GoDxism Read it, You basically close the door, be alone, no lights cept the light you use to read. You follow the steps, stand, go to the door, continue to read. It'll tell you to place your ear on the door and listen for "his breathing" (satan). Then say out loud "come in" or basically welcome him in, you can choose to open the door too in the end. So its like the bloody mary trick in the mirror, plays on your imagination. I listened to the door, opened it after the book, nuttin.
