she's amazing. i have met her through gymnastics camp and her story amazes me every time i hear it. should she have been on the 2000 olympic team? i believe she should have. i love dominique. one of my favorite gymnasts of all time to watch.

have any of you seen the documentary where she is saying how much she hates bella? its kind of weird because she is talking about how she wasn't aloud to eat lollies like it was the worst thing in the world when all athletes have to eat very carefully and heaps of kids arent aloud lollies cause they are uhealthy! if she wanted brownies more than a gold medal why was she an athlete, let alone gymnast? i doubt you would hear any of those chinese girls who are taken away from their familys complain

If she could have stayed healthy and found a coach who could deal with her, I think you're right. She had a MASSIVE amount of natural talent and was so magnetic. Injuries have put SO many gymnasts into the "what could she have been" category.

It's sad that being so young they have to retire due to their injuries but I think is understandable because they worked so hard for that one moment of glory, and there's only a limit to what their body can take.

I'm not thrilled with Dominique today, but back in the day, she was IT, like you said. She was such a pleasure to watch. She sure as hell gave Shannon a run for her money, and don't think Shannon didn't know it. Her little body just couldn't take her intensity. It just gave up on her. I do disagree with the statement that Domi's career was over when she left Bela. I personally think Domi was at her best in 1998, when she won the Goodwill Games All Around title, and then followed it up with a Bronze Medal at the US Nationals, despite having a knee injury that prevented her from training for 2 weeks. I think if the issue with her parents didn't interfere with her training and whatnot, I think Domi would had been a threat at the 1999 Worlds and even the 2000 Olympics.

Kerri Strug hurt her ankle really bad on her first vault, and even though it was really really badly injured, she went up for her second, and stuck the landing and hurt her ankle even worse, but won the gold for the team! Was, in my mind, the best moment in US Women's Gymnastics history!

actually you would be incredibly disappointed... i used to love her, and then i watched a lot of interviews of her dissing the sports of gymnastics and the other athletes and coaches. she keeps saying that the olympic gold wasn't worth the hard work and the dieting and that the karolys are monsters... such an ungrateful little brat! shame, too, cause she was a lovely gymnast.

Moceanu said the Karolyis were basically abusive towards her, so it's not 'sour grapes.' Look up the Emilia Eberle story- she was a Romanian gymnast in the 70's and she's said the Karolyi's were physically and mentally abusive.

yes thank u, i believe i know the emilia eberle story better than you do. did you know she entered international competition at age 9, when she was supposed to be twelve? did you know her parents agreed to that, knowing she would suffer physically? so don't blame it all on the karolys for god's sake. the bottom line is, gymnastics is the toughest sports in the world and moceanu is an ungrateful brat.

god no that's not what i meant! noone should be abused! but the truth is, gymnastics is like no other sports, you need to push yourself way beyond your limits, and young kids can't do that for themselves. unfortunately, it's up to their coaches to make them do it. i believe she's exaggerating; i mean it can't have been that bad with bela, since she was begging him to take her back in 98/99.

I for one totally understand where you're coming from and agree 100 percent. Little Moceanu had a lot of internal issues. Nobody thought as highly of her as she did of herself. Without Bela, she knew her career was over, cause he was the only one who could handle her. It would have been the same if for some reason Shannon had to get separated from Steve. Dominique was a beautiful girl and a talented gymnast, and could have been GREAT, but there were too many issues.

Thanks! I had videos of her competition routines on my computer and the other footage (her younger days, interviews, etc.) all came from specials on TV, like the E! True Hollywood Story on gymnastics and other similar documentaries.
