This Red Death costume is a TON better than the one from the movie. When The Phantom arrived to the Masquerade in the film version, I didn't find him all that menacing. But when he appeared HERE, I was terrified. No wonder the whole party went silent! I mean LOOK AT HIM! Plus, that magic trick of his left me wondering "how'd he do that?!", while the film version left me thinking "meh, trap door".

@saychristian Well, to each their own. To Gerard's credit, when I first saw the costume in the movie, I was a little threatened by it. But nowhere near as scared as I was of THIS costume. I think the mask and lack of a hat might have had something to do with it... I dunno, I guess I prefer my Red Death costumes to be more elaborate, the best example of which being in the Robert Englund version (check it out!). The costume in the 2004 film wasn't bad as a design, but it just wasn't scary.

The broadway version is amazing, but we totally beat the movie. It's such a hard musical to do.. it was amazing. I dont know about the other schools that did it (it's not many, I'm pretty sure we were the first in New York state to do it) but we really sounded like broadway quality.

I finally got to see this for the first time two years ago! It was my high school graduation present from my parents. I want to see it again so much! I'm so glad that this year they are going to have a 25th anniversary concert in the West End! And my favorite Phantom, Ramin Karimloo, is going to be portraying him in it! If you've never seen him as the Phantom, look him up here on youtube! That's how I discovered him. Even though I've never seen him live, he's still my favorite Phantom! <3

wonderful thank you for posting this....PO was for me the most spectacular lavish musicals I have ever seen twice on the west end and once in south africa...amazing what incredible effects they echieved on a stage without CGI or whatever it is because of this that I feel the film was an utter failure and a mammoth disappointment completely flat and lacking any kind of theatricality...this little snippet reminds me once again why I feel this way...once again thank you

It's a truly beautiful piece. FRom a staging standpoint, I bet it's a pain. It's never easy to have that many people on a stage at once, especially since it's so intricate. I'm not too fond of Christine's dress, but I understand why the full skirt is necessary. But then, I hate pink, so it's probably me. :P
