@icutsmellyfarts Hi Joel. This bass, unlike Chris', is mono only, so I have to split the signal but not each pickup individually - which is a pity! Thank you very much for your interest and kind words.
Awesome cover! I love this bass line :D. Also fantastic bass (Chris Squire models are so cool looking) how much did you pay for this one if you don't mind me asking?
No momento estou bebendo na sua fonte (a partitura no outro vídeo) e estou inclusive fazendo uma transcrição para uma versão do Guitar Pro, para facilitar a vida de todos :)
Perhaps the best Yes song that's NOT Yes. It's a shame that Squire's never been motivated to do a follow-up solo album. Nicely done, here. I remember your audio-only tracks from years ago. Impressive work.
Wow. That is impressive! You nailed that. And you got your tone dialed in perfect for every video! If Squire ever needed a fill-in...You'd be the guy.
I always thought that this music was only known by a select few fellow musicians who were big Yes / Bruford / Squire fans. You completely nailed it dude. The feel is great and you really channeled your inner Squire. So many of these type videos on You Tube suck cause they don't feel what the original artist felt, or they just don't have the chops. You've got BOTH and did a fantastic job. I'm blown away. I've always loved this record and it seems you do too..! Thanks for posting this. Awesome..!!
@philnaccarato Hi Phil. Thank you very much for writing. That's what I end up doing - trying to feel the "Squire in me" when I do these covers. Merry Xmas!
I feel that in Chris's solo work he can really release all that talent he has inside. The fact that he is also a self-taught bassist and plays like that blows my mind.
Excellent cover man, I love this song, and the way you play it.
@halfjaw77 That's right. His love for music made him be connected with various styles (singing in choirs, motown, contemporary rock etc...) and his own taste blends that acquired knowledge into his own works. This album is a work of art. Thanks for watching my cover. Merry Xmas
Miguel, Was wondering has Chris ever heard any of your playing? And have you ever met Chris in person? He's gotta see what an awesome player you are!I
@Progrocker70 Yes about 2 times I was very fortunate to talk a bit with him and back then I gave him a cd with the covers I was making by then :) That was 2000-2001
@ProcolHarum1967 Thank you very much! Btw, on the deluxe expanded version Chris talks about his taste for CS&N sort of harmonies that he used (too) on FooW
Greetings from the UK Miguel (cs 4001 number 353 here again)
I agree with you on the Herco pick question because I have the very one Chris used on stage on the Wembley 78 Tormato tour gig ( a friendly roadie got it for me from his spot on that famous revolving stage at the end).
The original Wishbone Ash bassist used the same one (as I have that too from the 70's)
I want Sir Macca's pick next, LOL
Great to see you still inspiring Ric lovers, I hope you are well my friend.
@maccafan10 Thanks Pete. In the starlicks interview He shows the very same pick. Pretty hard to get them here but I have a few from when I went to the UK several years ago :) Regards M
@miguelbass I've never seen the Herco pick in real life, and it seems to be almost impossible to get them here in Norway. I'm using the Dunlop Nylon Standard 0.73 gray and the Nylon Glow Standard 0.80. These 2 seems to be the nearest thing to the 0.75 Herco which is also Nylon. Is the Herco pick a hard or softer kind of Nylon? I'm asking because the Nylon Standard is a bit softer then the Nylon Glow Standard.
Awesome. You are amazing! I've never had the discipline to take on an entire Yes or Squire song. I'm impressed. What are you going to do when you run out of Squire songs? Who's the next bass player to conquer?
@Marshmanification Good question (beyond the answer) ... I don't think I will ever run out of Chris' basslines. I don't have time. My goal was one per album and I am near that... I would like to cover more bass players and put some of my own stuff here. Thanks for writing!
Miguel, Chris Squire is one of my favorite all time musicians and I would have to say my favorite out of Yes, he is really the brains and the musical manager of the group more than Jon Anderson. Yes Jon Anderson is the harmonies and did some nic works but I think Squire has proved that he never bailed from Yes and did his best to keep the uniqueness of Yes that we all like from the group.
@StarshipTrooper32 Have to agree... and history speaks for itself, doesn't it? Like Chris says, he and Jon are like Yin and Yang. It's so true... one can of course feel the absence of Jon. But Chris has been the anchor through good and hard times....
I was just listening to this record yesterday and wishing bill bruford had stayed around for Tales, Chris sounds so much better with a good drummer. I am probably ruffling feathers, but I had just listened to the first side of Tales then put on Fish out of Water, WOW what an enormous dif the history making rhythem section of Bill and Chris is! (as is apparent on Fish O.O.W.)
@TruNordic Yes those are completely different styles. Like in the case of Banks-Howe-Rabin , or Kaye-Wakeman-Moraz... we would never know how would it be "if".... but those changes are part of what Yes is about... Well I am glad they didn't have another bass player :)))
@StarshipTrooper32 I can't be sure in the case of this video, but Chris has already heard something from my work, which left me very very happy, as you may imagine :)
@MysteryClown000 Long ago, in 2000, I went to see Yes at the RAH and I offered Chris a CD with some the recordings I was making at the time - after a long wait in the cold after the show :)
It seems you also modified the body (reduced the size a bit) and refinished as well. Squire claims the custom body work contributes to his sound. Hearing you playing these songs expertly would confirm that. Well done, sir!
@SanFernandoJym Wasn't me - this is the model that Rickenbacker produced according to Chris' own bass. The sound is known to be pretty faithful and a very good instrument overall. Thank you for watching!
@Bilko2720 Thanks! Rickenbackers are precious really. Some P-Basses are great instruments too, I own one... then it's a matter of taste. Keep playing, that's the most important.
Love this song, and Miguel is performing superb. Just got a hold onto the Conspiracy Live CD where Chris sing and play this song live. His performance there for me is the bass bass+lead vocal ever.
Great Job...i was learning ELP covers in jr. high when this album came out. Fish Out of Water was instantly a life time favorite for me. The best of the YES solo albums by far!. Big plus to you for for going straight into "You know i Love You". When ever i hear "Hold Out Your Hand" it just has to lead into the next number.
