choefoe, i couldnt agree with you more. this song is an absolute favourite of mine, because it's genuinely a good song all round, but its lyrics confront every single stereotype out there, and a hell of alot of conflicts. that's what music's about. expression of emotion and thoughts.
@CherryErry joe is NOT into meeting fans..very guarded. I ran into him backstage at a marianne faithfull concert in New York . I was very humble and asked if he would sign my program and he said "Im not here for YOU im here for Mariainne"> and walked away...oh well....
@DavelovesRealMusic Ouch, not very nice, without fans you can,t live as an artist if they all walk away and stop buying your music you can play in your livingroom. That comment was not nice too but well, at least he,s not a pray of his fans ;-) He,s cute on stage to the fans, not off stage. That,s private. That,s too close, that,s how I see it. I guess we,ll take it from him haha.
@Choefoe I double checked . If was After Show Irving Plaza NYC early 2004. Joe never said he loves his fans so he is what he is. I also saw him walking by Virgin records (closed now) on 14th St and I just waved..I didntr walk over..and he saw and ignored me....so he does not want any contact with fans. I guess he wont be doing the "meet and greet" VIP ticket package like so many others who over-price tickets to shake hands lol.
@DavelovesRealMusic That last part is only more kudos to him haha;-) can imagine,He,s also a shy man, ,shy people don,t like to meet and greet to much with strangers, takes time to get to know them, let,s just enjoy the man,s music and let him be ;-)Cheers
@Choefoe He is shy and he is very guarded. That IS his nature. A friend of mine who owned a booking agency met with him in the erarly 90's o sign him for several club dates. He ans Joe to take a photo with him and his girlfriend and Joe got really annoyed and left. I guess he felt a personal invasion. Wasn't expecting to HAVE to take a photo. I can understand that.
@abelseeman No it is NOT strange behavior. Many performers are by natures shy in social situations but are able to emerse themselves onstage and play. Carly Simon, Bob Dylan, Donald Fagan (of Steely dan), Tracy Chapman. ALL of them as well as JOE are shy. They are not into the social scene backstage, the yare interested in performing the music as best they can. Not unusual. Just dont make EYE CONTACT with them and everything is ok
@DavelovesRealMusic that is a professionalism through aloofness, not shyness. UK Actor James Bolam is like that. No autographs or acknowledging fans who are simply customers He won't do re-union of 1960's sitcom "the Likely Lads."My opinion (irrelevant here) is that is wrong because the "job" they and sportmen do is something ordinary people do for pleasure. You don't see them or anyone working in shops, factories and offices unpiaid to chill out. while others act, sing and do sport in leisure.
@abelseeman I agree with you. But there are those who say peformers owe us NOTHING but a good concert or film. I understand that as well. But if you are a wealthy and able celebrity what HARM does it do to stop and sign a few things after a show? besides..it is the fans who bought their music that feed them.
Great music in spite of the lyrics. The coexistent of unbridled talent and a deep-seated comfort with sin. Hopefully one day Joe will sing to the Lord.
Ebbv's comment is illustrative. He accuses me of being a bigot for upholding Biblical revelation. He shows himself to be a bigot in the process. His war is with Jesus Christ, not me. Trust in the Lord, not man.
wow, have you really ever listened to this lyrics AT ALL?, seems your faith is blind faith because you don,t understand what this song is about, against any form of hate and anger towards people black ,white, man, woman, gay etc and you say it,s about sin? WOW , Joe sings to the people , and you,re the prove that,s hard enough
It was this song in the 8o,s that made me a fan.wonderfull lyrics.A man who got it."kill all the blacks, kill all the reds and if thre,s war between the sexes there,ll be no people left" A non macho man, wow there out there ;)
@montawkjack So it's really a "coming out of the closet" song ? Not that I care, I always saw it as a meaningful interpretation of the gender questions of the eighties — and a stellar song to go with it — and it moved me that way at the times ! (With all respect to my several gay friends who takes me as I am like I take them as they are !)
I've heard too many sad songs, but only THIS made me cry!And Joe is still(and always will be)amazing! His voice here gives me chills...thanks for uploading friend!

Was at his Berlin concert last March, and it was overwhelming... an out of body experience. Hope to see him again soon.

Ellen Amos (i.e Tori) covered this, but I wasn't sure where she was trying to go with it at all. With Joe, you know.

You're right my war is with Jesus, he's a fucking douchebag and so are you.

If Christ delivered you from your sin now and forever would you live to fulfill His desires? I'm sure Joe would, or anyone else for that matter.
Hubie59 3 years ago
There's no such thing as sin you stupid pile of shit. There is no god and the bible has no more meaning than Goldie Locks and the Three Bears.
ebbv 3 years ago
How can anyone trust a zombie like Jesus?!?!?
blingpings 2 years ago
You're completely disgusting.
Voice comes with reason, and obviously intellect, as far as Joe Jackson.
Which, you of course lack, and the "Lord" wouldn't have allowed free speech and proper thought to prevail if it were "comfort with sin."
Have some respect, women bring life into this world. You are proof of that. (Unfortunately).
