Best review yet, thank you! i bought the hd hero to as an upgrade to my hd 960. I was worried incase it wouldnt be a noticeable difference. Just one question thought. Does the HD Hero 2 do anything inside (hardware/software) to reduce vibrations? im into kart racing but when i stick the camera onto a home made mount or the side pods, The vibrations reduce the quality and ruin the video. Thanks
Watched both, and the whole write up. you said a lot and left out some. it is a great cam, just a big decision to spend all those clams. placing on a rc plane and flying I deffently sell some stuff to get the cam, otherwise I will keep viewing, and say thank you for hte review. the GoPro One shown a deffenit tome with the facial of hte bungy jump the gopro2 did not.
What are the settings you use regularly on your gopro? Also what is your main editing software? or what editing software would you reccomend for a begginer? p.s I have a pc
@heikki722 I used Premiere Elements for this video, but most editing software should let you put one video on top of another, and then shrink and move them until they're side by side.
@xlr8shn The Hero 2 does offer two optional video modes which crop in for a 'tighter' but still quite wide view, but in my tests the video quality became noisier. See my review at cameralabs . com for examples - there's a link below the video here.
@baldwinjackson41 Sure can aslong as you have vista or higher. You can use any program really, windows movie maker, sony vegas, adobe after effects and so on. You will need a reasonably good video card/computer to playback the 60fps vids smoothly.
Do any of these small cameras (GoPros, Drift Innovation etc) have adjustable shutter-speeds? -Keen to get around the choppy/warped propeller effect you get with these high shutter-speeds
@hyper080 Both the Hero 1 and Hero 2 share thew same maximum field of view, BUT the Hero 2 lets you record it with higher resolution 1080 video. With the Hero 1 you have to choose between the maximum field of view with a lower resolution, or maximum resolution with a narrower field of view.
Wow... Next ticket to New Zealand please! Btw how heavy is ur bike? Looked like a long trail, I want to see if I can complete such a distance on my bike.. (I don't have 5k to spend on a light weight mt bike lol)

Thanks!!

Like really, we're just gonna skip your shit anyway, we dont care. we didnt click on this video to watch YOUR shit, get the fuck outta the way. Man i miss the old days of youtube before all the adds. but then again most of it wasnt HD...
@PLKamil123 We tested the outdoor edition, but actually had the camera mounted on a bike which was hanging from the helicopter! So it wasn't attached to the helicopter itself!
I thought I'd give my input..I've filmed using the hero 1 attached to a helicopter using the suction cup...it held great..but, too much vibration and jello Fx...
Is my Hero2 the only when that turns like a night vision green in low light? This was occurring on the 1080 wide setting, but just switched to 720 and the green goes away. Anyone know why this might be?
My 19 year old son is off to the slopes with his new GoPro Hero 2 cam (HumbleOutdoors $270 with free 16GB SD Card). I checked out yesterday Mountain Bike footage... I hope he lets me use his cam on my kayak.
@Paps1984 Part 2 has been ready to watch for weeks! At the end of the video there's a message which says you can watch part 2 at cameralabs . com - there's a direct link under the video above.
Just wondering. IM going to new zealand soon, and i have a go pro hd hero2. how did you film the jetboat ride? was it mounted on the boat? or do you think its possible to hold onto the camera while filming on the boat?
@Fuzzman109 We had special permission to professionally mount it on the boat itself for the review, but they wouldn't normally let you take a camera on the boat.
What software u using to edit videos from hero2? Also, please let me know if you have any issues with your software... After reading all software reviews and problems with them it's hard to decide what to choose... Thanks for a great video!
hey gordon, i wanna ask something. on some of the point and shoot cameras and ive seen the same on the big flashes too... the flash lights up 2 times. not like single short flash... but 2 short flashes like a milisecond one after another... i cant understand why is that double flashing?
@hristijank2 Hmm, that's a bit off-topic on a review of the GoPro, but I'll answer anyway! The double or multiple pre-flash is to try and minimise red-eye by shrinking the pupil prior to the main flash.
also i was wondering, does it come with some sort of video edditing system? or do i have to buy one? or are there some free ones that are good? i really like your vids! i checked out your website also! way cool! i would love to see more reviews on youtube :)
@Mattmillerhahaha No it doesn't come with video editing software. I normally use Premiere Pro, but this video was actually edited using the much more affordable Premiere Elements. I'd recommend it.
@unknownsilant Part 2, 3 and 4 of my D7000 review have always been where I said they were at the end of part 1! You can find them all at cameralabs . com and there's a direct link under the D7000 part 1 video.
HEY! GREAT VIDEO, im looking into buying a hero2 as well but i have a question. Im going to be using this more as a camera for daily use to record me and my friends doing whatever. its perfect because of its size and waterproof case but how is the audio??? with the case i know it stinks but how is it without?? this is the only thing holding me back. I want to be able to pick up voices and sounds anywhere from very close to across a room or even futher. PLZ RESPOND! THANKS
@peecuzzi The audio isn't great on it. You can connect an external mic, but you have to take it out the case first, so you lose the weatherproofing and mounting options. I wouldn't use it as a day to day video camera if you need decent audio captured. You could of course record the audio with something else and sync it though.
It never fails, there is always that one tool on Youtube that just has to give any video a dislike. Camera Labs consistently has the best photography videos on Youtube and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to see how much works goes into them. Great job guys!
@Pro1er Thanks! They do involve a lot of work which is why I can't do as many as I'd like, but I still try and publish a new camera review every week at cameralabs if you're looking for something specific. This video was a departure in many respects from my previous reviews, but hopefully you all like it! (Apart from that one dislike anyway!)
@coolave007 Thanks! The reviews take absolutely ages to put together, so I don't have time to do many. I am however reviewing at least one new camera a week at cameralabs . com, so please do check them out!
@cameralabs Gordon I'm a big fan of your reviews, but I must say I didn't like this review. It's almost as if your selling the GoPro, not reviewing it. Every good review points out the good and the bad, you've only pointed out the good. Now I know it's only the first half of the review but I hope in the next half you point out the things people need to look out for.
@xWhiteoutProductions I agree on the resolution for smaller TVs, but there's no doubt the Hero 2 footage is sharper and more saturated, and that it's less noisy and responds more quickly to exposure changes. It's not just about having 170 degrees at 1080p.
@cameralabs i do alot of colour correction in post tho so wouldn't the extra saturation make that harder for me? im just not that excited about the go pro 2, when we can have 120 fps at 720p and 60 at 1080p i'll be excited, cannot stand 30fps footage, it looks alot better in 60 when the camera's moving about.
@byrdo444 out of curiousity, what style of music / artist would you think would work well with this footage? bearing in mind I'd need permission to use it on a commercial video.
@cameralabs Something without lyrics for sure. Something moderately fast, possibly electronic. I got tons of friends who make sick music I always use for stuff. Check out some of my videos
@cameralabs Hi Gordon, That wasn't supposed to be a negative comment. Infact I am a member of the forum, but I just feel sometimes that music over videos spoils them. I think I would prefer to hear just the ambient noise from the cameras, with possibly a narration, and maybe some mellower music, something more relaxing. Regards. Max.
@Maxsdiscos I thought this might polarise opinions. This is actually the first time I have used music in any of my videos on Youtube. Part of the problem is using music with permission on a commercial video - I can't just put anything on there. We know the artists used on this video and got permission to use their music. I actually think it works well, and is also typical of the genre you'll hear on this kind of footage. Out of curiousity, what style or artist would you prefer?
@cameralabs I liked the choice of music. I think for this kind of video it need to be something faster, like rock, but not too fast or too loud so you can't focus on video content. I liked it.
@YmePt Hmmm, I'll do the jetboating and zip trek, but if I'd done the mountain biking, I'd have had to speed up the footage by about four times! Scott was the right man for this job!

The music spoilt the video

@Maxsdiscos i agree. yo CAMERALABS send me the footage i'll edit you together a better more viral version with some legit music.

@byrdo444 out of curiousity, what style of music / artist would you think would work well with this footage? bearing in mind I'd need permission to use it on a commercial video.
cameralabs 3 months ago
