And a little thing like SE telling us flat out multiple times that C/T are the official couple from FFVII.

In my canon view of the story, Cloud and Tifa had something going on before he met Aerith, but after that Cloud and Tifa started getting a little distant and Cloud got together with Aerith (in my game the date scene in the park was with Aerith), but after Aerith dies it seems pretty clear to me that he and Tifa started getting back together, that scene where they wait for the reunion in the Highwind together for me is proof of that.

@wisefelipe "In my canon view of the story"? That aside, the big reveal in the LS showed two things. 1. He was the real Cloud and 2. He had always loved Tifa. That is why they are hooking up before the end of the game. THAT is why they begin staying together from then on.

Also Cloud never "got together" with Aerith. Ever.

What I meant by "in my canon view of the story" is that I played the game more than once, and differently each time, but I had a "canon gameplay".

Well, I havent watched Advent Children yet so I dont know how things go on there (having a hard time finding it), but they had to choose one story to be "canon" in the movie, that doesn't mean all the other options you had on the game are to be ignored, remember, ffvii was originally a game, and rpgs specially are all about choices :)

@wisefelipe In FFVII you didn't have to get Yuffie or Vincent or do their related quest. These are optional events in the game. But the story says it happened.

What is not optional is that Cloud is with Tifa by the end of the game. Some people just can't seem to accept that fact. They think that if they played the game as favoring Aerith on the first disk that somehow gives them control over the story. It doesn't and they don't.

@kohaya7kae Here is the thing. "Clerith" has no basis whatsoever in the canon of FFVII. You don't kill a girl halfway through a game then have the guys pivotal moments, the big reveal (lifestream sequence) and last night on earth (HW scene) be with another girl.

And you don't have that guy mere hours after the final battle tell the 'other woman' he will succeed because he has her and then lives with her. And clearly you don't have him raising children with this woman.

The decision to kill Aerith and give what her role would have been to Tifa (IE love interest) was made well before the final stages. Well before Vincent, Cid, Yuffie, the dog and the stuffed animal were made party members. So "last second" is a pure BS.

Once they decided to kill Aerith instead of Barret (so as not to be cliche) they then gave Aerith's role to Tifa and created a new one for Aerith. I think this was while they were still figuring out if they wanted Sephy to be Aerith's brother, ex-lover....or both.

So yeah things change in development.
