  • THIS WOMAN IS AWESOME

  • Wow the strings of the koto really have to be sterched to get the right sound. How do they not break alot of strings doing that.

  • @eburel506 The strings are quite thick and they don't usually break until they are worn out.

Silk strings would indeed break very often, but nowadays everyone uses nylon ones.

  • @anabellik nahhh... My shamisen teacher, who is primarily a koto player uses silk and has all her students use silk for the most part. and on a side note I use silk strings on my shamisen. They sounds soooooooooooo good. The nylons are meh. Not awful; just not preferable.

  • @eburel506 dosen't really need to stretch alot... most tensions are about 2 pound draw weights which is about the average to secure the bridge down and get a good tuning... which in order to snap one string immediately you have to press on both side of the bridge or cut it using scissors

  • @sometaaw Oh ok thank you.

  • The koto really is a beautiful sounding instrument . I have never heard of it until I heard a Japanese rock song where it was used.

  • The name of this is SANKA, that means a paean.

    The composer is Tadao Sawai.

    Fantastic! Realy moving.

  • LOve the sound of this instrument. I envisige times of meditation and the way of the Samurai

  • @ClarkesonTheMarksman Despite Bushido codes, Samurai were extremely violent.

  • I believe this is called "sanka" (praise song), a koto piece by the father of modern koto himself, the late Sawai, Tadao. I am curious if this is an artist or just a performer. I am interested in those who create their own music just as much as they perform other's music. But mostly artists I enjoy more. This is a great performance of the piece, a little too sped up in sections than the original but I love it still. Bravo!!!

  • what an incredible artist. what is her name?

  • @radicchio84 Her name is Sawako Yoshiwara( Yoshihara? ).

It said in japanese in this video before the play.
